I'm not a huge gamer, because if I did play games more, I wouldn't ever EAT (much less anything else). haha. But the one game I play over and over is, well you know if you are reading this message on a TR forum.

Here is a tribute piece I did, using the game's original melody.
Tomb Raider Tribute Music (http://www.douglasedward.com/audio/uploaded/TombRaiderTribute/Tomb_Raider_Tribute.mp3)

Of course I stuck strictly to the melody from the game, didn't even write a secondary melody. Pretty hardcore tribute I guess.

Are there any other people with some Tribute Music for TR?

A great piece of music! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif It could make a great score for any upcoming TR movie or game http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Welcome aboard, Douglas Edward http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

Your music sounds really good and atmospherical, and very tomb-raiderish http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

Are there any other people with some Tribute Music for TR?Yup, there are a couple, as you will see in the Fan Art section, where I am going to move this topic to now http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

OMG! The first part of it is amazing (somehow deeply unique)! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif ...from [0:00 - 1:11]. Douglas, do you have more similar works? Oh the first part of it would be perfect for TR8 title composition! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

hey guys, thanks for the comments!

I totally goofed and posted the wrong mp3, that was an older version of it! so if you want to hear the final version it is right here...

Man I feel like an idiot! lol.

Anyway, the newer one is much more rhythmic, dramatic, and climatic (in the middle of the piece). Plus the oboe now is only heard once, which I really like because that oboe reminds me of all the other oboes that played Tomb Raider themes.

And yes I do have some other pieces, but they are linked together as film demos on my site.
Click here for a good time lol (http://www.douglasedward.com/indexhome.htm)

Douglas

Your track brilliantly captures the sprit of Tomb Raider. I have heard other fan tracks, but nothing that stands back to back with the first game's original score like this http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

You've got a gift for music, and thanks for sharing your tribute with us all. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/jumper.gif

wow you guys are awesome!!!!!

thanks for the comments, and one of my friends suggested "Doug, stop screwing around and throw some real strings on it"

ok ok so now you can download it again if you want my LAST version (lol!!) of this tribute, this has real strings, more rhythmic strings in the middle, and more percussion. I had to do Lara justice!!

I'll go ahead and re-post those links if you want to hear them. Take care guys!

That'd make pretty good 'GAME OVER' music. I mean, we need to hear something while waiting for it to reload.

Kinda a tribute to Lara since she's been *breath*

shot/crushed/sliced/diced/drowned/burnt/broken/melted/blown up/...

There are lots of ways to die in Tomb Raider. Poor Lara. She's done all of these plus more say, 1,0000 times each?

First of all, I want to say that I loved your composition! I just listened to it (a few times already actually) and the style is just to my liking. It’s an original interpretation of the TR themes. I like how it starts with an almost “ghostly” voice sounding theme layered with guitar. 1:12-1:20 reminds me of the short TR 1 cut scene that shows the outside of Lara’s mansion. I love the percussion that starts around 1:40 and then the strings at 2:00. It builds up a feeling of action and then releases it back to the soft, soothing, reflective theme it started out with.

So you’ve recorded live strings for this instead of using a synthesizer workstation? Too bad I didn’t see this topic a few days ago. I didn’t get to hear the work in progress. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/mischievous.gif
How much (if any) of this song was performed on a synth workstation?

I’ve just skimmed over your website before I wrote this message, but I’m going back to listen to samples of your other work and learn more about your music, etc.
Oh, and if TR inspires you to make any more music, please post links to samples; I along with other people would like to hear more from you. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

It’s an original composition, not based on the TR theme. It was mostly inspired by my anticipation for “Tomb Raider: Legend”. I created this before there was any real info on the game. All there was at the time were some pictures of the new Lara in-game model, the “coming soon” page of the official website, and a couple of magazine scans of some early in-game screenshots. In making this song, I basically put the two themes “Tomb Raider” and “Legend” together in my mind and became inspired to write my TR “tribute” song.

So, here it is; appropriately titled “Legend”:

master, smallprint, voncroy, tony-

thank you guys you are too cool! It was a blast doing this, even though I typically don't work on anything unless it has some purpose, this was one of those few projects that I just had to do, lol!

Tony- 85% of it was performed on a workstation, all with midi. The Midi is controlling samplers, which all the samples are mine! yay! Over the years I've recorded thousands of sounds, mostly orchestral instruments and percussion. Wah-lay! Controlled by midi my own custom samples. Can't buy this in stores ! (call our 1800 number for details - jk!)

So everything is real, but the 15% that was recorded live for the tribute was - violins, violas, classical guitar, and opening 'haunting' vocals.

And I like you piece, reminds me of the games (with that harp sound in the background).

take care,
Douglas

hmm... ok so I have worked on this a bit more..

added some really pounding drums in the middle section, middle section is longer now too. Also, sad to say, I took out the classic oboe TR sound and replaced it with my voice in the soft section after the drums.

Here is the new one!

douglasedward

lol well I can't offer it for use in levels because the melody isn't mine, the melody is from the original TR games.

But if you need a good composer you know where to go, I'm cheap too! lol.

Here is the TR Tribute again (just uploaded it a slightly better mix)

oh this really is my favorite version of the otmb raider theme :jmp:

Beautiful... i want this for my level :D nah its ok i am sure lots of others will ask too.

i don't see why i couldn't be used in custom levels though? the level editor was given to us by eidos, and many people have used modified versions of the original tomb raider theme. custom levels are also non-profit things, so i don't see what the problem would be in using this lovely theme aswell...

Wonderful!!

I hope you don't mind but i copied the shortcut and it is now the music on my Xanga website!! I absolutely LOVE it!! :jmp:

So yeah if i can't have that one i don't mind paying for one  that song was incredible :cln:

GodOfLight
21-01-06, 20:00
yeah, i wouldn't mind paying either ismply cause it's so great.

the LE is a non-profit thing though, and lots of level builders use audio tracks in their levels from different osurces. all that matters is that you give them the proper credit in the level credits and the readme :tmb:
