Why won't my PS2 play my PS1 games or DVD's anymore? It's not that old. Only about 3 years and I didn't get it used. I keep getting "Disc read error". Is there any reason for this or anything I can do short of buying a new one?

They used to play on your PS2?

If so, the laser-eye in your PS2 device may have become out of its original focus. There is a Do It Yourself Tutorial about this issue on Internet. I will post a link. But you would have to unscrew the machine and do dary things.

Thank you Joseph. I have a friend who's good with this type of stuff. He might be able to help.

lol I'm gonna hafta go and buy a jewelers size philips next weekend. I tried using a glasses repair one but it's not working. Mine is also a different model but once I get the screwdriver it shouldn't be a problem. Took me a good half hour to figure out how to open it. :o :D

You don't have a Philips screwdriver in the house?! :yik: Why jewelers size? Isn't it PH-2 what you need?

I needed a normal size to get the cover off. I did that but the little peice of plastic covering the disc tray requires a jewelers or "small" size philips. Which I don't have. My mom works at a hardware store and will look tomorrow but untill then I won't be able to get to the lens. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c85/psycochick65/top-open2g.jpg The circled thing is what I'm talking about and the little red dots are the screws which are tiny and require a jewelers size philips.

PS2's are all the same i thought? There is only the big sized and the slim sized which is technically the same only more compactly built i thought. What IS the white thing you talk about and you call 'gear'?

I thought they were all the same too. You have to adjust : http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c85/psycochick65/opentray.jpg

And I don't have that.

Turning that dial did absolutely nothing to help me when I had the same problem.

I had to remove the BACK cover and adjust the laser voltage slightly. There are two screws, one controls the CD Rom laser reading voltage and the other controls the DVD.

I followed this guide and my playstation 2 works like new:

they are the sam system but built with different parts. all these different factorys make them kinda like with X-box. there are 3 types of X-box the really sucky made ones the middle and the great performance all the same price. My cousin bought one and it broke within 2 days of over heating. we tried everything we put fans next to it and it was literally 40 degrees ( im american XD ) in that room and it still shut off it was so cold i had to wear a sweatshirt. he then had to buy a new one and this dude from the store told him all about these ****py X-boxs and the really good ones all the same price. so this time he got a good one and its held up great for 3 months now...
