I recently bought the PSone version of TR1 and noticed several things that weren't in the PC version. I'll post all the differences here for those who don't know which version to buy.
Sound:
PS1: Has music whenever something exciting happens. Very quiet background noises, low quality sound.
PC: No music, normal volume background noises, high quality sound.
Controls:
PS1: Four control methods.
PC: Customisable controls.
Graphics:
PS1: Pixelly, can be made better on PS2.
PC: Very pixelly, can be made better with Glidos or patches.
Gameplay:
PS1: Pistols are slower, unrealistic splashing noise when floating on the surface of the water.
PC: Pistols are faster, more realistic splashing noise when floating on the surface of the water.
Saving:
PS1: Can only save at special crystals, can go back and replay any levels you have already finished.
PC: Can save anywhere, can only play the level you are currently on.
I think I got them all.

New difference! When Lara is turned into a gold statue in Palace Midas, she is a lot shinier in the PS1 version than she is in the PC version.

Hello?
Hi 3 Links. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif Good Info, especially for those wanting to give TR1 a try, not knowing which format to use.
.... if the PS1 CD is played through the PC emulatr, will it play the original music which is only on the PS1 version of the game?

Well you can't hear Lara when you're at her mansion, so you probably can't hear the music either.

My PC version has sound. I can hear background music, music during the fights like T-Rex, and Lara talks at the mansion. Is there something else I'm not hearing?

Play the PS1 version on an emulator on your PC and compare the two, you'll really notice the difference. Alternatively just pop the CD into your ordinary music CD player and hit track 2 onwards http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Hi there!
I have played the first 3 TR games on the psx and am just playing TR2 on the PC and have to say I love how crystal-clear it is on the PC compared to the psx! Not to mention that pick-ups all but glow so are very easy to see. Just one diff I have noticed, Lara can't jump sideways in enclosed spaces on the PC, she can on psx (albeit a small side jump). I have TR Unfinished Business but my gamepad is not compatible so can't play it :(

The graphics are definately clearer but thats because a computer monitor has a higher resolution than the average TV set.
Something else does come to mind though, the camera position is different in the versions, in the PC version it's much closer to Lara so she more or fills the screen, in the PSX version it's further away because of the larger size of a TV screen, so if you watch the PSX version on a PC she looks a rather small figure in the distance!
The other difference that comes to mind is the frame rate difference, the PSX version of TR1 is noticeably slower than the PC version for some reason, when I play it in an emulator I usually up the frame rate from 50 to 60 frames per second for that reason. The later games run at the same rate as the PC versions. My guess would be that since the game was first released for the Sega Saturn, then the PSX and only lastly on the PC, by then they decided it was running at too slow a rate and decided to speed it up.

And I can't believe how bad the quality of the FMV is on the PC! It's really "liney" and poor quality especially on the early games. TR4 and TR5 are much better but still nowhere near as good as the PSX version.
The PSX versions are beautiful quality FMV I was always impressed with PSX FMV's.
