View Full Version : XP not friendly with Tombradier 1 !
I was feeling nostalgic so I decided to install TR1 again and give it a play. We have a new computer now and it has windows XP, and when I run tombraider 1, the game is choppy, slow, the sound skips and 'crackles', and sometimes it will return me to windows. You'd think that since this is the fastest computer Ive ever had that TR1 would work great on it,but nooo, thats not the case. XP doesnt seem very friendly to older games. Any suggestions on how to get TR1 working right? any patches or stuff like that? please help! thanks a alot.

Thanks a lot for the help. I actually found out about glidos and the sound fixer-upper program shortly after I posted my problem. I downloaded the program and TR1 works fine now! thanks. One question, with glidos, does TR1 run right from the CD, or from the computer? If it runs fom CD, is there anyway to get it to run from the C drive(using glidos)? thanx.
You have to have to disc in the drive to run TR with Glidos
I know not of any other way of doing it ;)

Most games usually check whether the CD is in the drive before it'll play also.
There is one alternative to having a CD in your drive and thats to have a virtual CD-ROM drive - it acts exactly like a real CD drive but a CD "image" is stored on your hard drive. It frees up your CD drive for other things and you don't have to keep swapping discs to play each game. Try here. (http://www.alcohol-software.com/software.php)
XP is actualy more friendly to old games than anything since Win9x even TR1 will install on XP even if it won't run properly. TR2 and 3 both work perfectly even if 3 need to be run in compatibility mode. TR4 and 5 are less friendly though for some reason but it's still miles better than Win2000/NT game compatibility which is virtually non existant.
