This is something that's been bothering me for a while now (in 'while' read 'years'). If you go through the music tracks on the Saturn disk, you can find a track that doesn't appear anyway in the game.

As far as I know, this only seems to be in the Saturn version. On the Playstation version there's a Track 57, but that just plays silent when you try to listen to it. I don't know about the PC version.

Well, here's the file, and I would be grateful if anyone could shed some light on this mystery. :)

If your playing it in the Saturn itself, then you should be able to play it by playing it in the Bios screen. I usually do this by starting up the Saturn with the tray open or without a game in. When the screen comes up (a CD player display with a starscape in the background) put the TR1 disk inside and shut the lid. The disk should load, but the game won't start. From there you should be able to access all the music and sound tracks. It's Track 56.

If you're using a PC, then put it in your CD drive and open Windows Media Player, and all the music tracks should be able to play there.

Was that any help? If so then let me know if you can find it too! :)

The link you provided plays an audio track, where a man talks about 1999, a helicopter and a firestorm. Is this the track you are talking about?

Yep, that's the one I'm talking about, ELEN. I have no idea what it is, but I ripped it and uploaded it to see if anyone else knew what it was all about.

Oh, and before I forget, I must mention that my version is the PAL version, so I don't know if this track apears on the NTSC version.

Thanks in advance! :)

i just found this on wikipedia:

"By inserting the Tomb Raider disc into a regular CD player, audio and music from the game can be heard, among them an unused track of an early Eidos game called Firestorm."

Just been searching Firestorm for the Sega Saturn on google and there is a game called called Thunderhawk 2 - Firestorm by Core Design.

So I am guessing their is a trailer or rolling demo for the game on the the CD or it was added to the soundtrack by mistake.

So it's in the NTSC as well?

For some reason, I always used to think that this sound file was part of some secret hidden cutscene or level that you could unlock when you found all the secrets in the game. You know, some level where the army have discovered the hive and are about to launch an attack on it, and you either have to get out of there before they launch their attack, or you have to help them find all the mutants.

Complety impossible due to the fact that you can't get all the secrets in the game, an kind of dumb really but hey, I can dream, right? :o

I wonder what it really is...

Stereopathic and Henhead gave you the answer above. It seems that there is a game that CORE made and the audio track was put there by accident. Strange, uh?

I remember this from my Sega Saturn version of the game, I always thought it was just a hidden track to advertise another game! :)

Ah, so that's where it's from! Well, I guess the mystery's been solved, and now I can rest easy.

Thanks for the help, guys! :D

Oh my, this mystery track must have been an accident. It sounds nothing relevant to Tomb Raider at all, the only thing that comes as close to it is Larsons voice, but It sounds quite different imo.:D

There was another member on this board named LongLeg. He knew what that track was... I asked about it too. :)

Correct. It's a (sort of) Advertisment for another Core and/or Eidos game. I'd regard it as an Easter Egg -if you will. ;)

You just picked up an extra secret. :D

Talking of which in the Playstation CD there is an audio file which is a 100% slow down of the secret chime sound!! Why it is in there I don't know, I always though it would play if you founf the last secret in the level (to tell you have found all the secrets in that level) but I was wrong.:D

I´m not sure, but all PS 1 disks I have tried with stereo shows at least one track. First( or was it last) one is always long and "empty sound track". Never tried to slow them down, but maybe there is more of these "easter eggs"...

Well if you have TR for playstation and put into a cd player system it will play 57 tracks, this is because the game cd was made a mixed - mode cd which contains data files for TR and Compact Disc Digital Audio all in one.

Thanks JasonDavies15, I found them on the PS1 version. Track 13 is the normal secrets chime, which Track 14 is a slower, lower pitched version of it. Is that the one you're talking about?

I remember when I heard it ages ago, I used to think that it was a special 'All Secrets' chime too! God, listening through those tracks really brought back some happy memories. I think I might to replay the game now... :D
