As most of you know, with Glidos and new texture packs you can make TR1 look amazingly sharp and detailed, thanks to Paul Gardiner (Glidos) and Matthew Hill (new textures Xtra), and when you add the VDM sound with audio pack you will also have the music of the original PS version on the same moments.
Like this, left is with added Glidos, right is with Glidos and added texture packs:

It takes a lot of work to make those texture packs for Matthew and we already have the first 3 levels and when he has finished Peru he will release it as a pack and work to the next section of the game.

I have already installed everything and could play the first 3 levels BUT I don't, I wait for the rest of the packs. It looks amazing :jmp:

Am I the only one who stopped playing TR1 untill the texture packs of the whole game are complete, to play it from start to finish, is what I want to know :cln:

There are Glidos versions without annoying spinning logo that you have to pay for to get rid of it, yes. Those are the earlier versions, which are hard to find unfortunately.

Those versions of Glidos (without logo) are for Win98/95 and they will NOT work on XP/2000. I think the last free version (witout logo) was 1.9.

For XP/2000 version you'll have to pay.

I have Glidos 1.32 and the graphics do look amazing. The first 3 levels and the main menu are completed.

I can confirm, the ones without logo do work on XP and 2000. A friend has it installed on his.

I heard the whole Peru section texture pack will be released in summer :jmp:

According to Paul Gardiner none of the versions that support (run on) XP were free and the ones without logo do not work on XP. They were made for 98/95 (and they were free). That's what he told me.

Your friend probably payed for his copy that's why it doesn't have the logo.

He didn't pay, he downloaded it at that time for free from a tweaker site which has freeware to share.

Paul is going to say that of course, so people get the one with logo, he has to earn money in some way ;)

That website hasn't been updated for a year, it looks like the project is dead :( .

Edit: I looked at the Glidos forum and found this: http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=11487&sid=4a21d675869281f31aff0ce609d05dd7

It looks like someone else is continuing the project.

MMAN - The project is not dead. When I was talking to Matthew Hill he told me that he'll continue the project but it will be a long process. So I guess that we'll just have to wait. There is another guy there that is working on the textures. And from what I heard a few more want to join the effort.

But they all have a couple of problems.
1. Most of them work during the day which will slow down the making of textures.
2. They will have to agree on some kind of standard so it will be easier to integrade them with Glidos and so they look alike and not be different from level to level.

just checked out the screens for the new texture packs.
blew my mind, they look awesome in fact if someone released the game with the new textures ( including unfinished business ) i would buy it and so would millions of other people, maybe we need to give eidos a nudge.......
but they would'nt go for it, i e-mailed them a couple of years ago about them releasing all the extra levels for the PS1 on 1 disc, i actually got a reply, they said they did not think it was commercially viable......yeah right, numpties.

Nice to see some interest here again! The project isn't dead, just resting.

I'm the guy who started the TRX project way back.... (Matthew) I had no idea at the time quite how massive an undertaking it was (is). My life is pretty hectic, TRX is something I do as a hobby and I've simply not had the time available to invest in this as my spare time has been spent on another project for another old computer game.

However, things *are* progressing. As noted above, other people are working on their own sets and work is being done on consolidating a way of getting the textures working for all versions of the game -- this in itself is a big job and mind numbingly dull.

I have been working on a new TRX website which will collect together the textures from all the artists, but this will take some time and there's no point in putting it up until everyone's work is consolidated. As for a summer release of the peru levels, that's wild speculation, I don't know where anyone got that from!

In terms of paid versus non-paid Glidos -- you won't be able to use any of the newer packs with a non-paid version of Glidos as you'll require the newest version which hasn't even been developed yet. That isn't free I'm afraid, and $10 is a small amount to pay when you compare what the tool does and what you can get from it.

Anyway, all for now. Thanks for your interest!

I used to use Glidos on my old PC, but seeing as it has nearly destroyed my new laptop on the two occasions I have tried to run it I doubt I will ever be using it again.

Have you contacted the author about your problems? Paul is always very helpful and eager to fix any bugs that might remain.

Well it was about 6 months since I tried it and I can't remember enough about the error message to really report anything useful. Seeing as the laptop completely froze up and I had to rip the battery out in order to reset it then it's not something I really want to risk doing again no matter how helpful he is.

well gambit37 or should i call you matt? i think you are doing something amazing, this is something i've been talking about for years ie wouldn't it be fantastic to see an updated version of the original ( and best ) Tomb Raider.
I've allways wished i could programme because it is exactly the project i would have undertaken. i don't know much about the tech side of things but just say you get the whole thing completed, would it be possible to convert it to run on a console like a ps2 for example or is that just a stupid notion more down to ignorance on my part.
Also, i downloaded the glidos programme from the chronicles site which runs TR fine but it would not handle the texture packs right? anyway keep up the good work mate, i'm sure we are all waiting with bated breath.
