1UP: With your debut of the Tokyo Game Show Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer (http://www.1up.com/do/download?cId=3140656), which has seen wide distribution in both Japanese magazines, online, and in the U.S. Official PlayStation Magazine recently, it really heralded the dawn of the next-generation. Everything else has been polished and nice, but this was so powerful, so compelling you even had to do a real-time demonstration at TGS to prove it was running on PS3 hardware. That said, it makes you wonder how much of a gap there is between the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Do you think you could create MGS4, technically, on 360 if you wanted to?
HK: Yes, that's technically possible. I want to express, first of all, it's not that I don't like Xbox or 360. It's just that last year, our hands were really tied to MGS3, so the other Konami developers were able to get their hands on the 360 tools and hardware earlier. But we simply didn't have time to do that last year. So, meaning that we were behind the other developers in terms of 360 development. Kojima Productions has this philosophy that we want to be the first in everything regarding new technology. So after we finished MGS3, the option was to work on the PS3 to try all the new things for Metal Gear Solid 4. The only reason for this is I'm the kind of person who wants to be the first person on the moon, and don't want to be asking "what the moon was like?" from other people. So that's the real story behind selecting PS3.
1UP: It's interesting that you think you could do this on 360, though.
HK: Maybe some nuance or a small details here and there might be different, but I feel that hardware is no longer a matter. I'm just talking about PS3, 360 and PC. Revolution is totally different, but there are really no differences among the other three.

I said I'd find this! Maybe this will allay some of the wild PS3 talk--and dismissing of the 360 going on around here. ;)
Interesting!Thanks for sharing.:)
Interesting, but this guy makes it sound like the PS3 is more powerful.
During Phil Harrison's GDC keynote, Insomniac Games CEO Ted Price commented on what he called the PS3's "superior firepower."
In a verbal show of support for Sony and its new hardware, Price insisted that Insomniac independently chose to create its upcoming FPS Resistance: Fall of Man (pictured) for the PS3 because of its heightened capabilities.
"We've had a long relationship with Sony, but we are independent. we've always had a choice. We chose PS3 because it has superior firepower and because of Blu-ray. To make more believable worlds, we have to include more content."
He added, "Playstation 3 has more [detail] per frame than any system ever invented, and that is what really counts. It fulfills the public's insatiable demands for more content."

I love Insomniacs games, but... they chose PS2 because... well, it certainly wasn't for the same reason he's choosing PS3??? I think that "long relationship with Sony" counts a lot! Besides, more powerful isn't "way more powerful" like people on this forum keep saying... and that's all I wanted to combat with this post--straight from the mouth of every Sony "fanboy" and "fangirls" hero--Kojima himself!
I think the PS3 won't seem way more powerful than the 360 for the first couple of years, but then by it third year I think you will start seeing a big difference.

Yes,i second that.
Just look what Sony did with Shadow of the Colossus at the final days of PS2.

All systems have much better games at the end than at the beginning... and it looks like Legend might be the best looking game to grace the PS2 when all is said and done. Pretty darn good for the Xbox too.

Compare the pre console videos and demos, you'll see a difference within those alone.
I admit that I am a Sony fangirl, but I will be owning all three of the consoles, so my biasedness can only go so far. As a 3D Graphic Artist major, I pay very close attention to the graphical quality of all the different games I have encountered, whether I have played them or just watched trailers.
I feel that once the PS3 has been released, we will learn a lot more. Until then, I'll leave my opinion out for this, since everyone knows where I stand. Here are some interesting articles which I've stumbled upon:
"Make no mistake: the PlayStation 3 is utterly superior in graphics to the Xbox 360 from what has been shown.
What really set the PS3 apart from the 360 was its lighting and shadow effects. The first tech demo showed light absorption and subsurface refraction, highlighting how different surfaces react differently to lighting. For example, skin reflected a warmer glow due to the light being partially absorbed, while the eyes give off a realistically glassy reflection. The lighting model was advanced enough to even show high-intensity light glowing through the body (much as you’d see when you cover a strong light source with your fingers). Game demos such as Fight Night Round 3 implemented other graphics-hog effects such as soft shadows (where shadow edges look blurry at a distance). And like the 360, the PS3 also had bloom effects, light flooding and bump mapping.
While each effect in of itself is subtle, when all combined the added ambiance is noticeably improved from what’s seen in top-end PC graphics. The PS3 also seemed to have significantly more complex polygonal models than the Xbox 360. While the 360’s rather disappointing Ghost Recon 3 looked like a minor facelift from Ghost Recon 2, Killzone on the PlayStation 3 was an eye-opener -- undoubtedly the most beautiful looking FPS game to date (Quake 3 and Half-Life 2 pale in comparison). When comparing the graphics between the 360 and the PS3, the latter has graphics that are true to the phrase "next-generation" while the 360 seems more like a respectable upgrade (say, the jump from PS One to PS2) from the original Xbox."

"Quite simply, the [PS3] graphics looked orders of magnitude better than the Xbox 360 (http://forumz.tomshardware.com/games/Wired-PS3-graphics-compared-xflop-full-circle-ftopict33608.html#) games that were being shown across the hall."

I'll also show some non biased (I could really hammer the 360 with loads of teh crappy stuff I've seen, but I won't) screenshots from either console so that the nice forum fold here will be able to compare. :)

What especially makes this interesting is the fact that the PS3 screens are in earlier development than the Xbox 360 ones.
I was completely fair in picture selections. I could have been so much more harsh, especially with that recent, "2d whiskered jaguire" from TRL. :p
Hey Mel,i know you mean well but i think it's quite unfair for both consoles to judge them from some pics we have seen on the net.
The only way to compare 360 and PS3 is only if we could play the same game on both of them.
But then again, the developers might hold back in order for the less powerful system to be able to carry the games attributes.Im sure that if Legend was an only 360/pc title it would have been much better. The lack of power of the PS2 made the developers to hold back.
I believe there's no argueing that the PS3 will be more powerful than the 360.I don't care if it's gonna be "much more powerful"or just"more powerful".Graphics are important but really i mostly preffer Sony because of it's titles.
If someone likes Japanese games,especially RPG's then he/she should buy a PS3.
On the other hand if someone likes sports, racing games he/she should buy a 360.(i know it's not so "black and white"but i speak in general.)
It's no wonder that although in U.S.and Europe 360 was a huge success,in Japan it selled poorly.

I agree that after the PS3 is out we will have more say; however, I'm just comparing the two now. As this is what the topic is about in the first place.

The bottom line here is that the PS3 hardware isn't even finalized yet! Most of what anyone has seen is non-playable... plus some of the effects mentioned with the PS3 (such as light showing through skin) are evident even in Legend on the 360. And PRICE looms large, especially if this machine will be able to do everything it's claimed to do. Making a super-powerful machine is one thing, making it affordable is another.
The final point I can make personally is that it's not like it will really bother me if the PS3 is head and shoulders better than the 360, because I plan on having it! Thus, I will be just as happy as a pig in slop! :D
It just irks me when people act like the 360--which I paid good money for, and am enjoying immensely btw--is a piece of junk. That bugs me! But, like I've said I may not believe the PS3 is going to be everything it claims, but if it is, BRING IT ON! I'm ready!!! :D

I don't think the 360 is a piece of junk at all. The games I've played on it look really amazing. I just think the PS3 will be that much more amazing. :p I can't wait until early November!
One question, do you need an HDTV to really appreciate the graphics on the 360?

I think so, definately. The difference is BIG. That's why I keep saying that 360 games look better than they often do in the online screens and videoclips--unless you're sure they are displaying high-def output online. Of course you realize this will also be true of the PS3? Going to High Definition was the only real way to bring true "next gen" graphics to the consoles. Both consoles of course do/will look better than their older counterparts even on a regular TV but stepping up to High Definition is the way to go! Plus you can enjoy High Definition television programming which, once you see it, you'll never want to go back!
I have played the 360 on an HDTV, and it looks incredible. I was just wondering if the HDTV really made a big difference, which I guess it does. I already plan on getting an HDTV for the PS3. HDTVs just cost so much though! HDTV ($1000-$2000) + PS3 (Probably around $400-$500) = Me being broke :(

I never implied teh 360 was a piece of junk. If it was I wouldn't be buying one. I just think the PS3 is gunna be better, that's all.

I would have to agree! :D
The PS3 just has to be better than the 360, it's coming out a full year after the latter. Otherwise Sony have messed up.

I can even agree that the PS3 will be better, to some degree (small or maybe large), 'cause it should be, with an extra year and all. But every 360 topic (because Legend is coming to the 360 NOT the PS3) degenerates when people start saying how the "PS3 is gonna destroy the 360!" or "poor littlebox is gonna be destroyed!" or "Tomb Raider on the PS3 will be totally superior!".
That's what wears on me... don't think it has to be said all the time in every darn topic! :( Let's enjoy what we have right now, shall we?!
