View Full Version : The physics and realism are bad which make it so good!
Hey guys, one of the many many things I love about the early TR games in particular TR1, is Lara's over dramatic movements and the low quality of physics and air time she gets in her cutscenes :D Maybe its those gaps in her polygons reducing air resistance ;)
I don't agree with the title, i would say The physics and realism are simplified which make it so good!
As this is a dated game, they did the best they could do with the available technology. :) Which was awesome in those days! And still is. I haven't seen such terrific natural movements of the character and player's control system in any other game of that generation. But don't compare apples to oranges. Within a few years (or earlier) Legend may feel outdated too.
Yeah I know, graphics dont make a game, but thinking back to it, when I was 6 (when I first started playing TR) the graphics seemed amazing! Physics was un-matched too, but looking at it now, lol you realise how far weve gone, I mean look at legends and Angel of Darkness. But I still love to play the old games and I love the fact that the graphics are so bad (in comparison to today's Joseph ;)) coz it makes me remember what it was like to play them all those years ago.
i think the graphics are ok even today, they suit the games well.
Yep, I miss the way the game enviroments were based around squares and triangles (like the way you make a level in the level editor)
I'm just wondering Jean Yves ....did you play TR1 on XP after installed VDMSound, then installed with Advanced Installer and enabled DgVoodoo?

No I'm a PS player, but the graphics certainly seem better!

Or... The unrealistic physics is what makes the game good!

And that's why they do with the games today. Using the technology available as best as they can.
Within a few years (or earlier) Legend may feel outdated too.
And it will be... just like every other game out there.

There is no such thing as "low quality of physics" just unrealistic physics and they're there to make a game more interesting. It's nice for a player to become something else during the game play. That's the purpose of a good game. ;)

i love the original tomb raider.. i love the way its so quiete and dark.

yes, it's how "bad" tr1 looks that will always make it the best :jmp: you know exactly WHAT they are trying to show you and recreate. it doesn't look exactly like that... but you know WHAT they are trying for... which makes it so wonderful :D
Deffo, this might soundodd, but I dontthink any next gen TR games will have the same effect as the older ones just because the graphics are more evolved.
