Tomb Raider Chronicles all week has been canvassing public opinion on who should replace bee-stung lipped beauty Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft should Paramount Pictures commission a concluding Tomb Raider motion picture, as is being suggested by some factions of the movie-making industry at present. More than 3,000 avid readers cast their vote, and the results have proved somewhat conclusive.
Consuming 46% of the public vote, 19-year-old Keira Knightley - daughter of actor Will Knightley and playwright Sharman Macdonald - appears to be the favourite to don pistols and hot-pants to reprise the role of ardent Tomb Raider Lara Croft, with 31-year-old English rose Kate Beckinsale bringing up the rear with a combined vote of 28%. Other more bizarre suggestions included drag supremo Ru Paul, who curiously racked up 2% of the vote and former Lara Croft model Rhona Mitra, garnering 7% of public opinion.
A source attached to motion picture giant Paramount recently confirmed the studio is still negotiating a third Lara Croft-helmed movie to conclude the trilogy originally touted by director Simon West. Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie - who played lead video-game heroine Lara Croft - had already dismissed a concluding picture during an interview in March but reiterated her decision again while in Venice to promote DreamWorks' Shark Tale. "I just don't feel like I need to do another one, because I felt very happy with the last one."
Our readers have spoken. Is Paramount listening...? Only time will tell.

Keira's a good actress, but totally wrong for the role of Lara Croft (Unless they're planning to do a young Lara film). I'd prefer Kate Beckinsdale of the women mentioned.

Kiera Knightly was very "tame" in all her other movies, so they could just as easily rough Kate Beckinsale up.
I agree that Kiera would be a good young Lara, but not the full grown lara that they would probably use in another movie.
She wasn't tame in Pirates of the Caribbean in my opinion, and besides, King Arthur is her latest work.... ;)

I think Keira Knightley would provide a bigger draw at the box office than Kate Beckinsdale. She definitely the 'It' girl in the UK and US press just now, shes young, talented, and on her way up in her career, unlike Jolie who, if you ask me, is on her way down.

To play Lara you need to be inspiring; a woman who promotes confidence and independence and strength. That is what Lara Croft epitmoses. Not breasts. :rolleyes: No wonder the first two movies were so horrible, if the producers only cared about Lara's breasts.

Yes like I've written before, Keira as a younger Lara in a movie that deals with the planecrash e.t.c., is in my opinion definitely the best way to go!!! That is a movie I'd really like to see. And that's the only way to do it so it doesn't feel like she's a "replacement" for Angelina and everyone just sits there and compare them to eachother.

They stuffed Angelina's bra in TR1, so yes they can stuff a bra so it looks authentic if the breats absolutely have to be there!
Personally I don't care the least bit, breats are for gods sake not important, they don't represent you as a person or anything. I hardly think that the reason so many women and girls are interested in Tomb Raider and watch the movies are because of Lara's breasts??? :rolleyes:

Well if they do pick Knightly, I hope they demand she signs a minimum 3-picture deal or something. We don't want this series getting like Batman where you've got a different lead each time. I know the original intention was for the TR films was for it to just be a trilogy, but if TR3 makes a wad-load, they'll want to make more, and in such a scenario, Kiera being the Hollywood A-lister she's looking like becoming would potentially up sticks after one film.
Incidentally, Jolie's 'reason' for not coming back seems a bit bizarre to me. I know she's always been a weird kettle of fish, but surely it's the norm that you'd only not want to come back if the previous film was something you weren't happy with? I dunno.

Keira is also very very skinny and her voice can be screechy sometimes. I am a women so I don't care about boobs but Keira is so flat she wouldn't be Lara. The person who plays Lara should have the face, voice, body and attitude. Keira only has the face.
She has the face and the voice, at least I think so. She's also more than capabale of doing the 'attitude'. I've seen her in Hole and Bend it like Beckham, and I think I've seen enough of her in those two films to know she's capable enough of putting across a Lara personality.
However, and it's a major 'however', she isnt old enough and, as nasty as it sounds, she doesn't have the chest. It's no good padding up either. The public have to believe this IS Lara Croft, or the mythology of the character won't sell tickets in the cinema. Jolie had this in spades. She genuinely gave off the vibe that she WAS Lara. This is why the the first TR film is at least watchable, despite the dodgy plot. Don't get me started on the second one.

I think garner would be a very wise choice, and being that I am an Alias fan aswell, I know that her physical atributes in fighting and acting are up to par.
I'll never forget the time I first saw a commercial for Alias...
By day she's a normal everyday uni student....by night, she's a tough no nonsense international spy!!

Oh, and yeah I'd be open to the possibility of her playing Lara. She seems like a reasonable candidate.

Attitude? That's what I disliked about AJ... before 2nd movie she told the producers what she wants to do in that movie and they had to made the movie based on her demands...

I really like Keira Knightley, actually, she might be able to capture the spirit.
(My personal favourite was always Michelle Rodriguez, although she doesn't quite fit the bill, either. She just has this really hard edge that I like.)

Absolutely phenomenal gorgeous woman, I adore her. But as Lara? Keep AJ. There is no point changing the person who plays someone once you get used to her.
Tis like Xena being played by... err... Angelina Jolie! N.O. Buffy being played by Kristinna Loken (altho' the film Buffy was someone different, it's generally not regarded as canon anymore). And so on.

Same here. I like Keira but she couldn't exude the strong persona of Lara Croft. I'm not keen on Kate Beckinsale at all.
Angelina is Lara Croft in looks and personality to me. They'd be lucky to find someone as well matched as her to play the role. But if they did have to replace Angelina, then I think they should pick a relative unknown.
They do need to find a decent script for the next film though. Film 2 was complete rubbish imo. Only Angelina rescued it from a total panning.

Keira Knightley has the face, but she REALLY needs to work on her body. And I'm not referring to her breasts. The woman is literally a stick. She needs to put on more body fat and muscle if the role were to work, because it really wouldn't be believable seeing her kick guys twice her build around.

I have just seen some old renders of lara, and her face is remarkably similar to Keira. But when I see keira she does not convey any strong emotion, I find her acting very contrived and unnatural. And that pout! Was she bitten by a TR3 cobra?!
Jolie should stay because she has box office power and because she did the first two. They just need a better script.

Keira cannot play Lara. The only possible way for her to play Lara in anything is if she becomes one of those 'Lara models' that pose as walking advertisements who do not talk and just stand there and pose and act stupid. :D At least her dream came true - she had the opportunity to be Lara.

I really like Keira, but shes NOT crazy or brave enough to pull off Lara Croft. And I doubt she would even do the simplest stunts, Im disapointed that Angelina wont do anotherone, but its totally understandable.

Well I dont understand, it was like 3weeks ago that there was an article about Angelina doing the 3rd Tomb Raider movie.......did i miss something? Nobody can do it like Angelina. I think people are a bit under of the influence of the next Pirates;Elizabeth was/in indeed a powerful feminine character,but I'm not imagining Keira being Lara.
Angelina managed to give Lara the sensuality and sexual energy we may feel in the games,and still give the impression Lara is an adventurer, a solitary soul and not a woman craving for an equal partner. I think that requires some maturity,and Keira is perhaps a bit too young manage that balance. Her Lara would too rigid,perhaps,only showing one part of the whole character.

Seeing as it's pretty well been confirmed Angelina Jolie is doing TR3, all of this is just speculation now, but if Angelina weren't doing it (and I do thank god that she is!!), I do agree with some of you that say Keira Knightly would be the worst Lara on the planet.
When I recently saw Underworld Evolution it did cross my mind that Kate Beckinsale could probably do a pretty good Lara. Her accent is perfect - Keira just doesn't sound classy enough, and like, where are her curves? :P

sorry by keira would have to put on about 4 stone...she is way too thin, lovely looking but she hasn't got that edge needed to play Lara....Kate is a good choice and Rhona of course...but why does it have to be someone famous...why can't it be an unknown? Angelina is fiercly territorial over Lara anyway...she will play her again no question if the script and the director are good, Angie will go for it..she has said she always would on the basis of a good script and personal input...
i would personally like to see Angie back in the role because she IS movie lara, but i also think a good choice would be Claire Forlani...she is english and a cracking actress to boot

She actually has a good facial structure for Lara. The thing is, she needs to learn how to act tough and angry. For some reason, she never manages to look angry, just sulky. She's fragile.
Also, she has the wrong body type, I do not think she would be able to put on weight the right way.
