View Full Version : Lara's Hair
What's up with Lara's Hair? I mean in the FMV sequences, her hair looks fine. But, in the game her hair looks like crap. TR 1 is a great game and her hair doesn't cut away from any of the goodness, but, why does her hair look like crap?

maybe cause it was the first one and when it came out they didnt have much technoligpy to make it not look like crap :vlol: idk
I thought about that, but i figured the 90's could do better than that.

I know, her hair is a bit silly isn't it! :D
I mean in all the FMV's Lara has a ponytail, but when the level starts it's suddenly changed to a bun?
It makes no sense to just quickly do your hair up when the gamer aint watching but the reason was because the makers of Tomb Raider back in 96' didn't have the technology to make a ponytail (they could have made one, but it would have been totally solid and would have looked very bad! :D ).
A year later however in Tomb Raider II, they managed to render a ponytail for dear Lara in game so from that game on Lara has always been looking like her trademark! ;)
Now that you say that, a block for a ponytail would look worse than that bun thing.

nahhhhh, makes me laugh when people disagree.
this may sound silly. but graphics and others and what they did and how they moved. was incredible i loved the way the graphics were and how laras hair was, and others.
Back then, producers found it hard to animate Lara's hair. That's why they made her a braid instead of a ponytail.

Oh...So it's a braid. I thought it was like a bun thing.

I think her hair looked quite nice in TR1.
But yup, it was coz they didn't have the right technology. It's strange that even moving a tiny little strand of hair requires so many pixels and so much animation...
