I remember not long ago, the price for a new released game is about 40 dollars, not it went up to 50  and to day, I looked at the XBOX 360 games on the shelves and I was "Holly cow! 60 bucks ??!!!??!!", and it is very possible the PS3 games are gonna be up to 70 bucks :hea:

Well...New games have always been expensive. And the differense comes from consoles too. If you buy the game for PC, of course it'll be cheaper. The newer the console, the more expensive the game.

Games are costing more to make, and gamers just flat out expect more nowadays. Meeting these requirements costs an awful lot of money, thus selling prices or forced to increase for a greater chance of developers and publishers grossing in or at least breaking even on the budget.

Um i actually have to say its getting better for PC gamers because they used to be the same price as a Console game but are now 10-20 dollars cheaper when i go to buy them, another reason why im sticking to PC gaming.

Over here a 360 game is like 50 that's like 80 bucks, and Top spin 2 works out to like 80 bucks over here while you get it for 40 bucks so stop whining...:D

I never buy a game just released. I wait at least 3 months. The price ususally comes way down by then. If it was $50 US just out, 6 months later it is $29 or even less. I refuse to pay $50 for a game. The most I ever paid was $20 I think. I know it's hard to wait, especially if there hasn't been a new Tomb Raider in 2 years. But if you waited 2 years, another few months won't hurt. You'll have something to look forward to. I bought TR4 and TR5 together as a "twin pack" for only $10.95! What a deal. And I got TR3 for $3! Of course, that was 5 years after it was released. But that was because my old Compaq only had 2 megs of video memory and TR3 used 4!

I remember in PC Gamer mag, they are doing a 10 year recap...and a copy of the original Warcraft in 1995 cost $60~$70 dollars when released for Windows...now that is a rip-off.

I used to buy games as soon as they hit the shelf but now I usually rent. In Aust a new release costs $90(PS2 & XBox) which is about 54Euro, 38GBP & 66USD. As for Xbox360 the games here are $110.
I'd rather rent and if I really like a game then I would buy it when the price drops.

I don't know why a lot of people are complaining about the prices. Its like they want every game in the world. A game cost millions and millions to make and if it good then I find 50/60 cheap and if the game is bad then I let it eat some dust in the stores.

And the shizzle is that people still buy games and consoles so of course they'll go up.

But I don't care. I'm one of those people who buys it no matter what.

I bought Legend for PS2 for $60 too.

Only the new games are expensive, and I don't bother buying them as soon as they're out. Waste of money IMO. But the older ones are much cheaper - you can get Morrowind at my local PC World for £10. :D

15-04-06, 16:54
EXACTLY. Games are actually a lot cheaper than they used to be.

New Atari ST games used to be almost invariably 25 around 1989-1991. It was the best we had at the time, but the thought of paying 25 today for an ATari ST game seems beyond outrageous. I personally think modern games give pretty good value for money.

I don't want everygame in the world, but I don't wanna buy a game that costs as much as the cost of food we buy to eat in a week. I guess you make good money so you don't know why others are complaining they have to work 7-8 hours just to buy a freaking game. I know a game costs lots of money (especially the good ones) but I don't think it cost more and more every year cuz as we know, the price of home technology supplies just keeps decreasing.

Thats odd. It must be different in other countries.

the best thing to do is wait until a game is out for about a year and then it'll be about 1/2 the original cost.

Joseph
18-04-06, 02:36
Well Legend costs €49.95 here. Normal price. I could eat a week of that but also buy this game... Why has it to be compared, and if so, why would it not be fair? Terrific game > 1 week to eat?

i don't remember game prices increasing every game i have bought cost me 50.00 as and other usual game i have bought same goes for legend. i always if you save up and you really like and want that game treat yourself to it lol

18-04-06, 02:48
It keeps increasing because a bunch of people keep buying them. :p

18-04-06, 05:32
Its expensive if you want every game out there. I only buy action/adventure games for my PC and PS2 and sometimes I wait untill it is cheaper (goes pretty quick these days) but if I really want it then I buy it immediatley and 50 or 60 is fair enough for a game that is good.

dark_angel_7
18-04-06, 10:54
Well what can you expect from money-greedy developers/publishers? But us lucky PC users always have the same cheap, cheap prices forever! :D

It has to be compared cuz I don't have enought money to not do that. I get paid for only 7 bucks an hour and have to pay all kind of jjob taxes and stuff. I also have a family to support, and well, I need money to support myself too. To buy a 50 bucks game I have to work 7-8 hours and well, I can use that much of money for something else more important to keep me and my family survive as food, rent, ... and they don't release only one game a year.

Asian_Lara

It keeps increasing because a bunch of people keep buying them. :p

it is somehow right, what if they increased the price too high and ppl would think "Nah, I can't afford to buy it" then they wouldn't be able to sell games to lots of ppl and they would have to change the price back.
