Kingdom hearts 2 xaldin boss

hey can some1 tell me how to avoid his beam attack? i try to jump over it or stay as far as i can from it, but he keeps on getting me. i am at lvl 32, and i made it up to his last bar. i couldve killed him but he used his beam attack and got all of my health.

I couldn´t avoid it either...but I tried not to suffer a lot. When the beam got me, I pressed the jump button until Sora could escape:)
