Watched it in Japanese (I can understand some pretty decently) and the movie was EXTREMELY entertaining, but not a very good movie. Great action and stunning animation, plus impressive Japanese voices, but the storyline and character development are very bad. Still, as an action movie it succeeds brilliantly with its visceral and hardcore fights that leave you on the edge of your seat with fabulous coreography.

Getting the US version mostly because I was impressed with the voices provided for Cloud, Yuffie and Tifa in Kingdom Hearts II, and those actors and actresses are also in Advent Children.

Damn, how am I gonna pay for this, Silent Hill, AND Dreamfall!? Too much stuff!

Yes, I thought it was a very entertaining movie too. I have it on dvd and watched it several times. The soundtrack is very good. Especially the music when the title of the movie shows up. I loved it! Final Fantasy is one of my favourite games and the movie didn't disappoined (spelling?) me in any way.

Trojanman, I see you liked V for Vendetta aswell? It's one of my top ten movies. I've seen it in cinema and it rocked!

It's out pretty soon in english I think. It's pretty good, feels more FF than Spirits Within - which I love, it's actually one of the films I'd call "beautiful".

Advent: One Winged Angel - definitely one of my fave FF tunes!

AC is simply the worst superproduction I've ever seen. And yes I'd played FFVII before watching it. I found the game a good title in general and a complete disappointment as a legend it's supposed to be. I really lowered my expectations afterwards but the non-existent quality of narration and story-telling, ridiculous and completely uninteresting battles*, flattened characters** as well as ideal lack of coherence of the world in AC still made my brain itch.

*Now REMEMBER action film directors - the fighters must, I repeat, MUST have borders they can't cross. What's surprising and engaging about a battle where anything can happen?
**And that's really an achievement considering half of the original squad had no personality at all. The only chars that really benefited from this film are Rufus hands down and Vincent.

But this is a fantasy world, where anything goes, its not reality, the fighters are human, but with almost like superhuman skills. It doesnt really bother me, because its not a reality.

Now if this was a film set in our world, with battles where people could jump so high, run along walls, get themselves well and truly beaten without a scratch to show for it, then id be a bit more annoyed with it.

But this is Final Fantasy, with magic and summons, so it doesnt really matter.

In my opinion anyway.

But of course it matters! And in fantasy worlds even more. Each fictional environment, in order to provide a context and a scale for characters' actions must have its laws and rules clearly defined - at least as much as it's necessary for the immediate story. Ever wonder where the tension actually comes from? Now FF series, which owes a respectable part of its fame to the fact that it is so versatile and open to interpretation, tends to play dangerous games with this requirement. Some of FF worlds manage to stay quite cohesive during the storyline (FFIX), but FFVII compilation (and, to some extent, FFX-2), instead of smartly emphasizing some aspects of the original storyline and shading others, makes the Jenova and Lifestream story more and more chaotical as next installments are being released and more unnecessary words spilled.

And really, fights are no different. They need to have some borders to keep characters within (and to be broken later, but only under very special conditions in the plot), as well as some order to what is considered a strength in battle. IN AC conditions for winning are completely random - or, if you prefer, enclosed in "this is Cloud, he kicks @$$" fanboyism phenomenon of FFVII.

Alright... Putting aside this matter, I'd like to give AC some justice. It has great, post-nuclear but not showy visual design. I appreciate it especially since latest FFs are easy to mistake with a box full of drunk crayons. And the music is very decent - "Beyond The Wasteland" is easily one of my FF favourites and "The Promised Land" makes me regret such compositions are being wasted.

While I simply prefer to be realistic about one of my favourite series :p And it's perfect dud. Honestly though, I believe that it really doesn't matter WHAT you like - whether it's Franz Kafka or Bridget Jones - as long as you're capable of distancing yourself from it. What you feel in private is far less important than what you say in public.

And again, don't you dare insinuating I'm some emotional stranger to FF! Go gunblades and summoner dances!

 Hmm...So you like things to be realistic, Final "Fantasy" is the perfect choice.:p

Someone constructs these fantasies so they sell. And I'm just a nosy, curious person who wonders how they do it. But *sigh* alright, I give up :p
