View Full Version : I'd like a Tomb Raider game for Linux

Hi.

Being required to run Windows only for games (I've stopped working with it for a long time) I'd be glad if more game editors (like Epic Games with Unreal Tournament) provided a Linux version of their games, especially Tomb Raider. This implies using OpenGL for 3D rendering. Fortunately OpenGL is also compatible with Windows so I guess it's less difficult to provide a cross-platform game.

TR already runs on Playstation which is a completely different hardware. One more step ahead would be so great :) .

This version of Tomb Raider IMHO saves the series that completed a big disaster with Angel of Darkness. This one is *the* one I expected, probably as many other gamers who followed with interrest the whole series.

Ah, nice to know.
BTW welcome to the forums Vince.C. Why won't you introduce yourself in the introduction section?

Vince, I am a Macintosh abuser of
over 20 years and have played all TR's
up to this one (playing now on PS2)
on Mac- a year after the rest of
the world...=/

I feel your pain.

OpenGL is used in the Mac versions as well.

Hehe, didn't look for that one :) . I'm used to Gentoo Linux forums and they are also running PHPBB like this one and there's no intro section. Kinda cool thing indeed :).

EDIT: here I am (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=62811)...

Ahaa... Then there is at least a Mac version :) .

Doesn't TR run on Linux if you run it through Wine? I haven't tried it yet but I'm sure the pre-AoD games at least should be playable.

Welcome to the forums, btw. :wve:

No in fact. See http://cedegawiki.sweetleafstudios.com/wiki/Tomb_Raider_Legend . Wine has no Direct3D support, which all Windows games use. For Direct3D support you can try Cedega, which is the new name of WineX but it's not free. Note it does only require annual fee to profit from regular updates aso.

Unfortunately TRL doesn't run under Linux. Neither with Wine nor with Cedega. And there are only a few of TR series that really are playable - TR1 and TR2 IIRC.

EDIT: looks like I was wrong... Almost none of TR games do run on Linux, see http://cedegawiki.sweetleafstudios.com/wiki/Category:Not-working#T .
