View Full Version : Would you ever say the L word to anyone?

RAID
19-05-06, 19:53
This is not the L word like calling a woman gay :p

But I was just wondering, would you ever tell someone the L word? Not someone you've been going out with for some time though... Maybe someone who's a friend of yours and you wanna make something else of your friendship... or someone you just happen to like.

Would you say that?

I don't think I would be able to. I'm afraid of rejections to be honest and then our friendship would start to fade or I'm afraid of scaring them off.

What about you?

Note: That I'm talking about a person whom you've known for sometime, or someone who is a close friend but you want your relationship to be more intmate but haven't gone out with. Not some random person whom you've seen for the first time :p

It's huge risk. If it doesn't work out the friendship could be altered in many different ways. However, I would assume a friend would be sympathetic and let me down gently if they didn't feel the same way.
Then again, it could turn out to be one of the best decisions I'd ever made.
I'd take the risk. I couldn't live with myself if I didn't. :)

Sure, just be brave...
You never know, maybe that person feels the same way and if you don't tell it to him/her, he/she could go forever with someone else, and you would never know... :)

So true. "love" is such a fleeting emotion, it changes along with any change in things like faith, simple precepts that are discussed in philosophy....it is such an abstract way to describe a feeling that one can never be sure of. Why tell someone you love them if you can't understand the word itself? Anyway, that is just me. :wve:

It's arisk like you said.

But I don't agree 100% with the part you said "I would assume a friend would be sympathetic and let me down gently if they didn't feel the same way."

Yes they would I'm sure, but a rejection might create that awkwardness that starts to fade your friendship. I know cause it happened to a friend of mine.

But other than that, yours is a very good point :)

I think that is just part of being human. However, I like to think that I don't need that from others, I am a typical Narciccistic Character though, so I am content knowing that I am all I need to feel whole. Once again, that is just me.....:)

I think like that sometimes, and just like you said, it's Human Nature to wanna hear it sometimes. Lately all I could think of is finding someone. I think I've had enough of the life of the single. :)

I know it might seem a little selfish of me Not being able to say it and all, but still there are a lot of ways to Love someone.

Of course to be honest, the best "I Love you" I could ever hear is from someone who you think you can build a strong and healthy relationship with. An Intimate relationship I mean :)

Of course I would say the L word! Best password you can use to get a woman into bed. That statement irks me. Yes. I actually got angry reading that. It seems very sexist. But I can (being calm) ...picture that some people may be like that. "Easy".

I would hope I would never go so low as to revert to such cheap tactics. Sex should be secondary to a meaningful relationship. But if it's just a fling or for fun - then that is that/those person/s business.

That's my 2 cents.

As for the question at hand: Would I ever say it? I'd have to look deep within myself... Okay, this is an easy one since I already know the answer. ....I'll say it.

Why didn't you say from the beginning that the word is "love"? I couldn't understand until I read half of the posts. LOL!

It's not bad to tell someone you love him/ her, as long as you feel it. I don't understand why some of few would keep it a secret if you felt it, unless you are 100% sure that you are not gonna love for the rest of your life, which makes me think that your heart is colder than ice. If you feel it and the person really deserves it, why not telling him/ her? If the person doesn't deserve it, then you are stupid for being with him/ her and let yourself love someone who doesn't treat you well.

I understand that you can't say it quickly, but it's a matter of your heart.

Anyway, I have said it once and I haven't regreted it. It wasn't only me that gave something to this relationship. He also did and that was important.

Well, our friendship kinda :cen: and I was confused and restless back then. Nowdays, the word love is like a label on an empty can.

Therefore, someone just saying I love you means nothing, at least to me that is. There must be actions (other then passion/intercourse) and simply more to it.

"In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you."

That for example is a good way of telling someone you love them.
The actions are just overall kindness and thoughtfulness. Not just the cliche flowers and box of chocolates, but something more meaningful. I read a recent article that said to keep your marriage alive, just be kind and thoughtful, even when you are both haveing a bad day and hate each other for a while.

There are two types of love: Type a)Friendship and Type b)Intimate.
Before you mention any of those, know the person the best you can. To start a true relationship, show Type A. That is the true portal to the real love. Once you think you're ready, expose your type B feeling, which will only mark the beginning of something truly especial. :)

Why not, really? If I love someone, I won't hesitate to tell him or her.

Hmm.....I have no problem saying I love you to a friend, because as someone said earlier it is a label on an empty can. While I enjoy the friends I have made, I have had more people come in and out of my life that will only be friends that I don't mind telling them something that doesn't really mean anything to me.

Wow...that kinda sounded cold...runs off to find my heart......

I tell my friends I love them all the time. Not in a serious way, obviously, as my friends are mostly girls (not that there's anything wrong with that, but I don't dance at that end of the ballroom).

what's wrong with girls dancing with girls? It's normal.
