I'm pretty confused with trying to figure out how to make Paint Shop Pro open DDS files and everything, and I was given a link here:
http://download.nvidia.com/developer/NVTextureSuite/Paint_Shop_Pro_Steps.pdf
However, I don't really understand it. I'm not sure how to even start. How do you make a director? I'm sorry to pester people with this, but would some one mind explaining this to me step by step in a more detailed and simple manner? Just to do with making the directory and adding files to it. I'd really, really appreciate it!
Hi, Mel! The link seems not working for me. I have Fibre Channel - so it can't be a download problem. Is there another link on this manual, maybe in .doc format or so?

Oh, yes, got it! :D

hmm... Well I'll type out some of it.
Instructions for using the DDS Photoshop Plug-In with Paint Shop Pro
1. Make a directory in your Paint Shop Pro directory called Plug-ins. For example: C://program files/Jasc software/Paint Shop Pro 7/plug-ins
The directory above is what I (the guy who wrote this) have on my machine, yours might differ.
3. Dump the contents of "dds photoshop plug-in" into the plug-ins directory you made.
4. Dump the contents of "these required DLLs" into Windows/Systems folder.
I skipped number 2 because I knew how to do it. Basically I just need to know how to make a directory and dump files into it. Thanks! :D
OK, here we go!
1. You should make a subdir for DDS plug-in files in Paint Shop Pro Plugins dir, e.g.: Your drive:\Your program files\Your PSP\Plugins\Your cool DDS Plugin :D Simply find your PSP location, then find "plugins" folder there, then open it and make a subdir...
2. Download DDS plugin and required DLLs at http://developer.nvidia.com/object/nv_texture_tools.html
3. Put the DDS plugin files into created directory "Your cool DDS Plugin"
4. Put (extract) required DLLs into your %windir%\%systemdir%, e.g.: Windows\system
5. Ensure that you have DirectX 9.0 or later (DX9.0b or DX9.0c)
6. Ensure that your Paint Shop Pro (PSP) preferenses refer at correct plugins folder, as shown here "Your drive:\Your program files\Your PSP\Plugins". So make your PSP search for plugins in THAT folder :)
7. Restart PSP and open a DDS file!
Did I help you understand? :wve:

Ok well I understand it more, but not completely.
I fount the location of my plugin file, but I don't know what you mean when you say I should make a "subdir". I don't even know what that is haha. Do you mean I should make a new folder in the "plugin" location?
Also, I installed the DDS plugin and everything. So I take it a file should show up somewhere then? like a folder? I never found one, I just installed it and left it at that.
Oh, and I don't understand what a DLLs is either...
Other than that I'm good to go lol. I'm pretty confused with everythign else though. Thanks so much for helping me out! I hope I'm not being too ignorant.
Edit: I clicked that download link and I only see the one for the DDS plugin. Where's the one for "these required DLLs"?

"subdir". I don't even know what that is haha
Sub Directory, means new folder in the main folder...
1. Yes, I mean you should make a new folder in the plugins location & call it definitely, as I do "Your cool DDS"
2. The plugin you download is packed by some archiver or is self-extractable (executable), am I right? Then you have an ability to choose the location where it should extract plugin files... So choose "Your cool DDS" folder just made by you!
3. The DLLs are some files in the archive you've downloaded by the link "these required DLLs". Extract them into C:\Windows\System or so.
4. Then as I wrote upper... :wve:
...And never mind, you can't be ignorant: if you call for help, & I managed to help, these all my probs :D
I'm downloading it now! Let's see...
-- Edit --
Mel, where did you find PSP plugin on that page? Or Photoshop plugin is used with PSP?
Then in that way you should simply choose you Paint Shop Pro location while setup of the plugin and that's all.

Bugaga! Now I'm looking at the doc I've printed "Instructions for using DDS Photoshop Plug-in..."! Heh, I must be overheated... :tea:
At least, I'm right in previous post: how to install I mean.

sorry for not replying in so long Esconde. Meansizzler is trying to help me over msn, but I think I could use your additional help though...
Anyway, I understand everythign you are telling me except for the DLLs.
Here is what I have done:
I put the "plugins" and "presets" into the "plugins" folder of PSP (both of the PS folders). It still doesn't work though...
Mel, sorry for having no look in archive contents. There are NO DLLs, so don't worry.
If there were some files named "some_name.dll" they should be put in %windir%\%systemdir%...
BTW, I'm EscondeR (not Esconde) :)

ok EscondeR, I did what you said, but when I try to open the file it says "plugin returned an uknown error" I'm confused...
OK, I have no PSP or Photoshop in my office, so I'll try to find out whats the problem at home, then I PM you. Oh, yeah, email me any of DDS files esconder_spamers_must_die_@mail.ru (remove _spamers_must_die_ and send ;))

Mel, what version of PSP do you use? I've found that plugin should work propely with PSP 7.X
You can just copy the file "dds.8bi" to PSP\Plugins & try...
l got a similiar error(access violation) when using PSP, l think you need those non existant dll's to make it work, l gave up and went hunting for my photoshop disc instead, l hate using photoshop :(

Photoshop isn't so bad as you think. But the ham differs in color and taste... :D
2 Mel: http://www.bhmotorsports.com/file/3897 this one has only one file dds.8bi and positioned as working with PSP 7.0.
BTW, can I download PSP Demo or smth of that kind to try (I have no PSP :( )
P.S.: Does PSP return only "plugin returned an uknown error" or asks for some components or DLLs maybe?..

Got it working, download this file LINK (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jamshaeed/Images/plugins.zip)
When you unzip it there are three files, one plugin and Two .Dlls, copy the Plugin to the "Plugins" folder in PSP Directory and the Two Dlls to C:\Windows\system
Load up PSP might give you some weird message ignore it
Make sure you have set your plugin directory "File->Preferences->File Locations" Select the "plug-in-filters" tab and point it to your plugins directory
Restart PSP and you should be able top Open DSS files

Works I tested the same thing, but I beat you to it, just not the post...:D
Good work, Meansizzler! :tmb:
BTW, if you have Photoshop & DDS plugin, you can use msvcpXX.dll & msvcrXX.dll from Photoshop folder. ;) So no need to use this: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jamshaeed/Images/plugins.zip
Did eventually get it to work, although l get the mip maps message twice for some strange reason
