Heya guys :wve:

Anyways, Has anyone ever got an External Hard Drive? :)

I'm thinking off buying one for videos/music/documents/maybe games? I saw this Western Digital 160GB MyBook Essential USB2 for under £65! Great price!

I just want to know do you have to install XP onto it so run the thing? Or, Can you just plug it in and store things on it? So, It'll be like a flash drive? As, My sister/mum/dad has a flash drive and was just wondering would it be the same?

Thanks in advance :tmb:

i seen an 80 GB external hard drive at Wal-Mart. It said on the back that it had to installed by a disc then plugged into the PC through a USB cable. I thought about, mainly because it was only $100.

Yes, I have two USB/Firewire external hard drives... 200GB and 300GB.

No. You do not install XP on external drive just to access it and use it as a storage unit.

Or, Can you just plug it in and store things on it? So, It'll be like a flash drive? As, My sister/mum/dad has a flash drive and was just wondering would it be the same?

Correct. It will be just like a second or third or... etc. hard drive. It will work just like a thumb drive (flash drive) or a floppy... only much, much bigger. Just plug it in and use it.

Also, in most cases you do not need any software to use it, especially when you have XP. As I said above... just plug it in and use it.
