Am i the only person who sees this?
[ June 15th 2006 ]
Former Tomb Raider (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/tr1/index.html) caretakers Core Design have today confirmed the much touted Tomb Raider: 10th Anniversary Edition video-game primed for Sony PSP has been cancelled by SCi Entertainment (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/eidos/index.html) and has addressed a leaked video which appeared on the internet last week.
"The video of Tomb Raider: 10th Anniversary Edition that appeared on certain sites was an unauthorised release of an internal presentation of a game that was being developed by Core Design until very recently. It was running on PSP and used a Core-developed engine. However, following a recent review this project has been officially cancelled by SCi."
However, sources have suggested Crystal Dynamics (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/crystaldynamics/index.html) will continue to press ahead with a Tomb Raider / Tomb Raider II (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/tr2/index.html) remake with original Lara Croft (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/lara/index.html) architect Toby Gard leading the project.
In other related news, Rebellion has confirmed the purchase of Core Design from owners Eidos is now complete. Although Eidos will retain the Core Design name, the studio, its assets and workforce will begin trading under Rebellion (Derby) Ltd.
I hope I'm not the only one who wants to go like this " :hea:  :cen: " when I read 'Crystal Dynamics' and 'TR1 remake' in the same sentence.
Im getting very hopeful. I confess that I am not one of those that worship at the Core shrine. I know that programmers and developers and artists come and go in the gaming world. Core had their run and got stale. CD is a very talented group and should get their chance.

OK, relax. Legend was not up to par but it was a step in the right directionish! I do believe Crystal Dynamics do actually care about Lara, and they have Toby Gard there. This is good news! Although it a bit odd having him work on TR2 hmmm
i think its cool if core or cd make it as they are both good at differnt things cd has better contols and grphics and i think better story line . core on the other hand have larger levels deeper game play and so on.if core do it there sure to improve the contols and if cd do it its tr1 they cant change how long its is or how hard the puzzles are. im sure it will be great either way

Well time permitting i guess. Which platforms??? Xbox 360, PS3, PC, PS2, and Xbox! You never know!!!
I'd rather they concentrated on TR8 to be honest.

Ah ye all have little faith! They deserve a chance dont they! They might come out with something a lot better than what we saw in the Core video.
If they do make it, I can't help think that they'll make it a lot shorter and a lot easier. I doubt that this is true, by the way.

I dont care who makes it- I just care that it IS made. (much as I would have loved it to be Core, as that video was fantastic- CD made a gorgeous game)
no matter what- whoever remakes it, we know it wont be a short game.

true- but even with that TR1 would take a good chunk longer that TRL

It would be no surprise, as all the near-impossible jumps from the original series would suddenly disappear, enemies would take a couple of shots to be killed, Zip will solve the puzzles for you if you take more than three seconds to give it a think, and any passage, corridor or platform which is not necessary to access the exit of the level would be completely impossible to be accessed.

lol hopefully zip wont be in it, or the head set.
Oh my God. Zip/Headset - it's now horrifyingly possible once again.. As are:
Blackouts, compulsary spinning targets, small jumps, limited weapons, hints, tips, lack of atmosphere, and "puzzles" .
I feel sick.. Must give them a chance, must give them a chance, must give them a chance..

No Zip, no headset, no grapple.....l still would have prefered Core to have been given the oportunity to finish their project, they could have left Eidos on a high note remaking the original game. And if CD make it it had better look as good as the one Core did:mad:

Hopefully they wont change anything, maybe update controls a bit, and nice new graphics.
Think of it this way Rivendell they are now looking at the classic game. This is great experience for them, and plus they are doing it with Toby Gard!!!! Think how this experience might show in TR8 :wve:

As i said, lets see what trailers they can produce :D They might even be bringing this to next gen consoles. Perhaps Core could not do this.

Remember folks, according to sources Toby Gard actually came in REALLY late in Legend's development and was more of a consultant then someone who was really involved in the game. Infact..he was the first to say he had little a role in the development of Legend.
So since its been confirmed that Toby Gard is at the helm now (i.e. not Morgan Gray) there is a strong possibility this game could end up being totally different than Legend.

I don't mind if Crystal D. does a remake, I just hope they don't make it too short and too simple.
For example: In Tr1's Sanctuary Of Scion Lara has to go outside the sphinx, climb the cliff, into many rooms, open the door at the bottom of the sphinx, go inside the underwater temple/cavern, and go back into the sphinx to open the door to the Scion.
If CD were in charge, they're capable of making Lara place a couple of boulders onto some pressure pads. Then they just go and grab the scion shortening the level by a lot! BORING!
Don't give them any idea's Camera!!
NO! Not crystal! IF they use the legend engine, the remakes would be just as linear as legend was! The engine makes it impossible to acces ledges, areas and corners that are not on the main path, because it would take too much resources.
Now imagine Tomb Raider I with that? Yeah, we would get prettier graphics, even prettier than Core's unfinished remake. But at what cost? To play a linear and chalengeless game? This is ONE chance for us to get to see the classics in XXI century, and probably the ONLY chance for you to make and publish a perfect Tomb Raider game. PLEASE do NOT ruin it this way!

I'm starting to think I liked Core Design better. Their loss of the series wasn't all their fault and I would absolutely be sick if a "TR1 remake" by CD came out with Zip and Allister, that irritating headset, easier puzzles, the most linear and least interactive levels EVER and short jumps and all that. I want the new games to be more like the old ones! Those aspects of the classic games were NOT what was broken so why try to fix them like that?
I would be very satisfied, however, if there was a remake with greatly improved graphics and a return to the things that used to make TR what it was. (hint: I love the infinite-backpack, no matter how unrealistic!!)
Anyway I guess all we can do is wait and hope CD is nice enough to listen to all our griping and give us what we want, and let us give them a chance!

As long as their is NO headset! I wouldn't be able to stand it if Zip and Alistair are kidnapped by Natla's goons.
Or when Lara fights Mutant Natla, Zip is all like "You may be able to use your grapple to pull down the boulder and squish Natla." :hea:
I'll give CD a chance but they better use it wisely to really improve the Tomb Raider games.

What? No BLOOD?
I'm trying, REEEEALLY trying, to stay calm here. Can SCI tell me what they determine a 'remake' is? As I understand it, a remake is an updated version of the ORIGINAL.
THAT is what we were getting, from what I saw.
Core ( OK I know they aint'core' no more but still the same programmers) were close to bringing TR1 but with updated graphics to us. My point is, was that not good enough? Did it stray somehow from how SCI sees Tombraider? (i.e. legend). By all means let CD make it, they are a good company, but PLEEEASE for the love of god DON'T make it a 'legend' version of tr1!! If that is SCI's idea of it then I'd rather it be left now and never spoke of again!
There's an old saying....."If it isn't broke, don't fix it". Give it a lick of paint hell yes! But please don't 'fix' it.

I mean seriously. R.A.D. mode. How ridiculous. I really wish I could get a pair of binoculars that identified what things are and what I can use them for....:p
Or when you meet streaky-bacon lara alistar is like " *lame joke* I'm going to go offline now because I'm a sissy" and Zip adds " *lame joke and maybe a hint or tip* "

People, stop standing on the head of Toby Gard. Don’t be too quick to forget that if it were not for him, you wouldn’t even be here. Have a bit of respect.
Toby choose to walk away from the game because they wanted to whore it ie cash in and make a game a year just for the sake of it. He choose to walk away from that rather than have anything to do with his character being changed this way. He also walked away from a lot of money! For years he has had to sit back and watch his character be abused and changed. How dare we say he cant now make Lara the way she is supposed to be.
Bet your bottom dollar, if this man is here, it will be a good game. He says that Crystal Dynamics are a good team and they care about Lara, rather than have an interest in cashing in on her. Thats good enough for me.
We'll see... http://forum.fbodyowners.com/forum/images/smilies/dunno.gif
From the looks of it Core Design changed some aspects of the game. We can expect Crystal Dynamics to do the same.
I'd put money on it! :)
Core added things from what could be seen from the vid, i.e. trex interaction with raptors, pole swings?????,falling and grabbing ???,other than that they seem to have stayed true to the original. Before I'm flamed I know I haven't played it!!! My only point was they, core or CD, should stay faithful to the original, and it looks like core had.
There was no malice intended against crystal, I just can't help feeling that core did have the 'essence' there and maybe it was embarrassing to SCI.
Just my 2 pennies worth
Toby Gard doesn't know squat about TR2 but he does know TR1 which was the best game. Hopefully this is true, but I still don't like the idea of Crystal Dynamics making remakes.. it scares me.
Got tuppence left before bed:)
Core have shown what a remake could look like, now it's up to you SCI.
Give crystal some room ( cos that's one helluva bar they gotta jump) and let them give us the game we have ALL been screaming for since last week's 'leak'. Or if we'll get it in three years time....

Good point. Hopefully they have very good reasons for having called off the Core game i.e. they believe Crystal Dynamics can do it better, perhaps they can! Time will tell.
I have a bad feeling they'll just take core's work and trash it up with legend gimmicks. IE: grapple, climbing jumps, bullet time, headset with chip and dale, flashing objects, cutscenes for all the good stuff... leaving us inactive participants in the whole game... just so they CAN make a november release... :hea:

At this moment in time, we have no idea how long they have been working on it. They could have been working on this for some time, and we wouldnt know.

I honestly, hand on heart, hope they can illuminati. But my gut says that it may be 'dumbed down' for money reasons given the ease of legend. Thats all I'm asking for is for crystal to be allowed to UPDATE the graphics and not be forced into changing what is the essence of tr1:D

It's embarassing to see how much fans can give up on a developer from just one game not being up to par.
Did anyone stop to consider that maybe Crystal Dynamics would've made a few mistakes here and there seeing as it was their FIRST TOMB RAIDER GAME? The fact that Legend was even good enough to get 8-9/10 in major magazines should be commended. By making a game that was exceptionally good (despite being rather easy and short to some hardcore gamers) they have guaranteed TR a spot in our consoles for the next few years.
Give them a break, they're bound to do a lot better the second time around. Like I said, Toby Gard..their 'tomb raider influence' had little to do with Legend. He however DOES have full influence in the remakes, which should be the case as..like it or not, he created and animated Lara Croft in TR1.

I personally would love to see a remake of TR1 by CD. The very experience of immersing them into the hallmark game of the series can not but have a great impact on all of the future TR games that they develop. The CD haters can just forego purchasing the remake and not be bothered by it.

In the wake of Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend, a metric ton of related announcements have come across ye olde reporting desk.
First off, and most interesting, is the announcement via PR and financial statements of several new Tomb Raider projects. Tomb Raider: Legend is now officially slated for the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS, however no details are available. As well, a game referenced in financial reports as Tomb Raider 10th Anniversary, which is assumed to be a compilation of the best levels of the series, is said to be on its way for PSP. Even more than that, rumors have surfaced that Crystal Dynamics are working on a remake of the original Tomb Raider. Its title is reportedly Tomb Raider: Atlantis. More details on all of these projects should be available soon, with E3 on its way.
So as you can see it looks like Eidos and SCi have been planning CD to remake it all the time along with Core in a Tenth Anniversary edition supposedly only for PSP.
Remember this is only speculation but is from a supposed financial report!
I look for more on it!

NOTICE FROM Tomb Raider Fan Notice Board at Crystal Dynamics Centre USA . After Tomb Raider Legend being one of the most successful games of this year, Eidos and Crystal Dynamics have agreed to continue work on the franchise. But what can we expect next? Returning to the Past. Well a remake game is in the works at the moment, called Tomb Raider: 10th Anniversary Edition which marks 10 years since the first Tomb Raider game, and this game will feature the first Tomb Raider and the second as they are remade. Using the model of Legend and graphics, moves, environments, weapons. The games are expected to hit stores November 2006. And will be released on PSP and PS2. This will probably be the last Tomb Raider game on PS2, Eidos have confirmed that thoughts of a legend follow up may make it onto the PS2 but at the moment Eidos and Crystal Dynamics are looking at giving Tomb Raider is debut on the Play Station 3. And just to comment about what Crystal Dynamics has to do about the re-make - I HOPE they leave EVERYTHING in the audio department (perhaps sound effects but they're fine as they are..), meaning not touching the voice-acting AND the SCORE - ESPECIALLY THE ORIGINAL SCORE of this game!! (the soundtrack) 'cause it's beautiful as it is - Legend's soundtrack was great but not as great as any of the Tomb Raider (I)'s...for the sake of the re-make...unless they're willing to enhance it but sounds risky for the soundtrack..hopefully they'll see that....just listening to the original main theme now is so soothing...

http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/tombraidervii/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-28520450&pid=920215
I know the souce is from 'Tomb Raider Fan Notice Board at Crystal Dynamics Centre USA' but where is that? Plus who has made it? I think the details might be correct.
However, i hope its on a next gen machine. PS2 i can live with, but will the game be so different from the original? Its only one step up from PS, and ten years have past.
Are you guys ever going to stop? This is getting old....:hea:
NO! I want core design and I want 'em to start developing... now!

Core ran the franchise into the ground.. i seriously hope some of you people crying "Bring back core" are fooling around...
Do you NOT remember AoD? how about Chronicles? how about 5 games that were EXACTLY THE SAME.
Yay. New Environments (on the same engine)
Yay. A New Move or Two (including the insulting attempt at analogue...)
Yay. A New Story (or NOT in the case of Chronicles)
... but the same puzzles, the same shoot-a-thousand-times enemies, the same blocky EVERYthing... it was a stagnated series.
I remember most people on this silly forum being extremely excited over Core being booted out to make way for CD..
and now that after playing Legend a couple times, you decide it's not up to par with whatever your standards were?
COME ON.
If you could sit through core DESTROY Tomb Raider, then the least you could do is sit through a game or two and let Crystal Dynamics get the feel right.
I think Legend was a little lame, but a step in a VERY good direction... a direction that, judging from their last TR effort, Core wasn't taking.
Now that im done ranting, CD BETTER not @#$% up the first two Tomb Raiders. I want nicer graphics, surround sound, re-orchestrated music of the original compsitions, and NO Rocky and Bullwinkle (chip and Dale was taken) messing around in my ear...
I'm pretty wary of the originals being tampered with in ANY way, actually...
Good point!

Wary of the originals being tampered with in Any way?
But I thought it was a blocky, repetative, predictable stagnated game?
Some of us love the originals. Some of us feel that They were what TR were supposed to be. Frankly I never once felt disappointed that it was on the same engine. I love the games, not once did I feel bored or 'ho hum, more of the same..' - and I swear on my life that's true.
Call me weird, but I couldn't fault them. The word 'innovative' really annoys me because people have taken on the p.o.v that if it's not innovative then it's no good - this simply ISN'T the case. If something is fine and good, where's the need to be innovative with it?
Do you NOT remember AoD?
Yes I do remember AOD and I do remember that the failure of AOD wasn't down to core in some aspects at least. If Eidos hadn't be so desperate for it's prized cash cow to start developing money then AOD would have been completed unrushed and Legend would have never arrived but it seems that Eidos were arrogant, were desperate and that is why today Tomb Raider is another cheap game for simpletons but 'ey I dare CD to prove me wrong.

So Crystal will carry out the re-make...mmmmmm
There's a good chance the game could actually be good if Toby Gard is incharge, afterall he is Lara's creator so I doubt he'll let Crystal muck up the re-make :D
Plus Morgan Grey was incharge for Legend so the Tomb Raider re-make could be completely different with Toby as the head
So Core were developing the PsP version, what a shame it's been cancelled - but I think Crystal and Toby will make a better job of it! :)
They were also developing it on ps2. PSP and PS2 it was going to be, I wonder what it Won't be on now.

i know that AOD was rushed by EIDOS. What i was getting at is the idea that changing lara into some bad-ass biyatch, instead of a quick-witted and well learned adventurer.. and throwing her into the streets of paris, instead of wonderfully designed, atmospheric tombs, was a VERY poor move. a Step in the WRONG direction.... IMO
And yeah, i said the games were blocky and really didnt advance beyond, what became, an outdated engine. But i think the first one was brilliant. I think the second one was superb. I LIKED all the games... but i wasnt blind to seeing them steadily go downhill.
Blocky and kinda ugly is fine for the first two.. they were made in, what? 1995? they're about 134 years old in Digital Years! But as the games progressed.. and came out further and further away from the original being made.. i find it kind of silly that we still had to do stupid block puzzles in a bloody grid-based world.
I, personally, dont think the first two games should be touched at ALL.
If ain't broke....

I cannot understand all the CD haters! Yes you can say they failed in Legend with the linear gameplay and too easy puzzles, Zip & Alister etc....
But the Remake is something completely different. And as far as we know it was finished to 80% and by CORE. So please stop saying CD will make the other 20% to what Legend went: Zip & Alister, shiny objects, grapple hook.....
Hey, keep in mind that this is a Remake!!!! A Remake is generally an graphically updated version of the original, CD would never ever dare to introduce any elements of Legend! So this game hardly could be that bad! I personally was happy when I read TRAE is now in the hands of CD, they could fix the controls and animations as they were in Legend. And a linear gameplay is also unlikely as they keep true to the original.

One of my biggest fears is that they're going to impliment the legend engine into the game and scrap what Core have produced- their engine looked very familiar and similar to the original, for me the engine was a Huge Huge part of the infamous 'Tomb Raider Feel'.
Crystal are great. I would trust them with the remakes.

The Legend engine was the best I have seen in the TR series!! It will be the last thing that possibly could spoil the game. And I personally got the same 'TR Feel' with the Legend engine.
Riv' you need to calm down and give CD a chance. That's what I did...:)
I am giving them a chance, I'm just not holding my breath that's all and explaining all my doubt before hand. I'm definitely going to 'wait and see' though.

Just wondering why? I mean Legend was pretty good, actually I enjoyed Legend, but that's not the Lara we all knew from the other games. I trust them with new games I guess, but defineatly not remakes. I miss Core either way. :(
Legend was given a chance. It was too easy and simple and short. We got too many clues between the headset, flashing objects and cutscenes, puzzles were too easy, traps were too easy, environments were left unexplored being stuck on track with the game, atmosphere was ruined with voices, danger and fear were eliminated by ease of controls. That's what we are afraid will happen with CD making the remake...

People keep forgetting that the Core that was doing the remake was in no way, shape, or form the same Core that made the original games. Not the same people, no... People also forget that a remake is easy to do if you stick to the original. It's not like making a completely new game that is measured up against the original and can be found lacking.
I'm also getting a little tired of the CD bashing. I found Legend ultimately lacking as well but people are going so far overboard with it that they find fault with every single aspect of the game, as if CD are completely and totally incompetent. It's ridiculous. Legend has so much right about it in a technical sense that to say they couldn't remake an existing game as well or better than Core (again comprised of people who never worked on the other TR games, from all we've heard) is crazy. And if Toby Gard is heading the project--and not just a consultant--then you've got the final piece of the puzzle right there.
End rant. :ton:

Guys dont forget that with Legend we actually asked for this stuff.
People asked for vehicles, people said they wanted to ride a motor bike, (although i realise thats not quite what we meant) people said they wanted to use a grapple hook, people said they wanted lara to move faster, people said they wanted more outfits, people said they wanted the puzzles to be easier.
Again, i am not saying i am not disappointed by the Legend game, i was, but if they can listen to that extent, who is to say they wont implement things in future games?
Like all of you, the remake idea worries me, but it would worry me no matter who does it. It just has to be done right and stay true to the fantastic game that was Tomb Raider. However, there are still the classic games around so its a chance i am willing to take.

To be honest.
I don't really mind about a remake of TR. I mean, Afterall no one can make a better Tomb Raider than the original. It would be nice. But, Afterall it's just Eidos/Core/CD Celebrating 10 Years of Lara.

Here's a question.
Core said there project was 80% finished, so will CD get this 80% and simply complete it with an extra 20%?
Somebody suggested that it was taken from Core at 80% and so it'd be strange if CD didn't change it completely because if they didn't then there wouldn't have been any point in stopping Core.

That's a good point. Legend looked great but it wasn't that great because there wasn't that much more to the game than what we saw... we imagined the game would be massive compared to what was shown, and it wasn't. Perception was better than reality.
Same could be true of this remake. Now we know the content of the remake would be good--because it's the original game, BUT we don't know from the footage how this thing controlled. What if this remake had poor, clunky controls like AOD? Not a lot of people would be happy with that! Perhaps that is the secret reason this project was also taken from Core...?
I just wish Eidos would have some sort of dialogue with the actual consumers.
We're constantly left speculating and picking over every little morsel of information we get - things would be so much easier if we were just flat out TOLD SOMETHING for a change.

This sort of thing is exactly wat I was on about in my post yesterday about people that make up thier own 'facts' and state them on here as if they were the truth.
While I'm here though, I would like to dispel just one more myth that I've seen mentioned a lot. We glad you all know now that we're not all dead/disbanded etc. But it has been stated that none of the Tomb Raider team work at Core anymore as they all went to Circle. This is quite simply, untrue. Some did go to Circle, But Gav is still here, as Studio Manager, running the show. Phil Chapman heads up the Art dept. Rich Morton is our lead designer. Tom Scutt is the company's Creative Director. Gaz Tonge, Art Director. If you enjoy studying game credits, as I'm sure you all do, you'll also recognise Alex Davis, John Lilley, Phil Callaghan, Peter Barnard, Andy Sandham, David Reading, Darren Wakeman, Jamie Morton, Hayos Fatunmbi, Paul Field, Darren Price, Damon Godley, Benjamin Twose (Benny to you), Duncan Hopkins, Stéphane Denis, Wayne Elliott, James Kenny, Andrew Gibson & Jeremy Oldreive. So a lot of the people who brought you your favorite games are not just here, they form the backbone of the company.
btw. I noticed you seem to have just been through every thead you can find and posted these 'facts'. Do you think the more times you post something, the truer it is?

If they are doing the remakes I really doubt that they will screw this up, yeah you can expect some add-ons like interactive scenes, and new areas, but I don't see anything too drastic.
Oh yeah about the swimming its actaully better and more accurate. You don't have to worry about going up and down with the directional buttons just left and right because the action buttons make you go up and down which I think it takes time to get used to from original TRs but it is diffently better!

Why? Wait and see what it is is like first.
Thats what everybody said about Legend too and how did that end up? Short game boring gameplay and horrible controls. What makes you think they can do anything better this time?
... well, they have the orignal levels so it would be easy to just copy them, but well, i think they just make it linear and boring like Legend.
Crystal Dynamics also lied about the controls being slightly different, cause they were not, they were COMPLETELY different. I dont like to be lied at.

Hey, you Core guys come out of the woodwork after NO-ONE here knowing Core even exists anymore--let alone who is there if it is still around and expect everyone to "get on board" with what you're saying immediately. I needed a little time to catch up--I didn't see every post made on the forum the past few days, especially the important one where you list names.
Look, I meant no particular offense to any individuals. I'm not saying anybody lacks talent, but I said what I said: the "Big Name creative" people are all gone. Those Big Names always associated with Tomb Raider in the past--people us fans have heard of. Plus I was reacting to the wild anti-Crystal Dynamics ravings that have gone on for days on this board, when I know them to be a good company too. I just lost my head a little bit after hearing "CD sucks, Core is the Almighty!" about 10,000 times!
The name Core means "Tomb Raider 1" to me... perhaps my favorite game of all time. Unfortunately it also means "AOD" to me... the biggest disappointment I've had in gaming. I can't judge from a simple trailer whether this Remake was going to be great or not, just like Legend footage fooled many of us into thinking it was going to be great. I said I thought it looked great and I'd be happy if you were finishing it. I'm sure it most likely would have been what we all hoped.
In the absence of any official EIDOS statement we can only guess why they canceled it.
Anyway, truce? :wve:

Mellow Yellow I said that just numbering sequels sounds like a crappy movie, it works well in games but when you have Legend and Last Revelation those are cool names better than saying have you played Tomb Raider 20! Final Fantasy can do it because each game is about a totally different people! TR could do it because there are different adventures, but come on get more creative than naming the sequel 5!

16-06-06, 16:18
Lol! Okay the re-make should be on PS3 too! :)
Linden did you not like the controlls in Legend?
Crystal won't make it lenier and boring, they will hopefully re-do everything the original game has design wise but maybe add in a few extra bits here and there to improve the game, you know?
The original Tomb Raider was lenier but the scope and sheer size of the enviroments made the levels in the game seem huge and I think thats why Legend feels so small in comparison.
Legend has long corridors connected to big chambers with puzzles in them and so the design is always 'pushing you forward' with very few optional side paths.
In the original Tomb Raider the levels were huge and just wanted you to explore with no bounderies and none of the 'keep pushing forward' design Crystal adopted with Legend.
That's also a reason why I don't believe Crystal when they said they re -played TR, surely they could have seen the amazing level designs in the original Tomb Raider and used them as inspiration for Legends but they didn't.
If they re-make TR we will have those huge enviroments back and the graphics will be totally re-done to more modern standards with bump mapping, shaders and probably even spectral highlights too! -
if the re-make is next-gen bound too that is.
There is a huge risk factor involved in making such a classic game as the original Tomb Raider however if it was a success we'd have the perfect TR game!
The swimming controlls aren't that hard in Legend are they?
I thought they were easy and intuitive, they'd make swimming in the TR re -make a pleasure, I think :)

I'm not saying anybody lacks talent, but I said what I said: the "Big Name creative" people are all gone. Those Big Names always associated with Tomb Raider in the past--people us fans have heard of.
You do know Toby left after TR1 dont you?
Of course, we meant no particular insult. It was just my dry British humour :)

Yeah Toby was gone a long time... but even more were gone after AOD. As I said I'm sure everyone left is good at their jobs it's just so sudden... we only just recently heard that Core was still around, but it was all new people there--or so it was said on this forum (not by me, I just picked up on that). Then we hear that a bunch of people are still there from day 1! Oh well, I'm fully caught up now... I can't and won't feign ignorance now! ;)

Can you tell us how many people worked on Tomb Raider 1? Also how many of them are still there?
Edit, also how come the video leaked?
I dont really know, i think it was a tiny team of 5 or so. (anyone correct me?)
At least 2 if not more (should really ask)
I have no idee how or why the video was leaked.
BTW, one of the TR2+ guys was telling me today that he thinks Core as it stands has at least 50% staff from the TR days. He also thinks (unconfirmed of course) that there are only a handfull of TR people left at Circle and only 1 at CD, Toby himself.
Me, I'm a TR virgin. Infact I must confess, i've only played 1, 2 & 3 and that was ages ago!!! I will be playing legend when i get some free time.
Oh yes, and of course i've played the cancelled TAE :D
Edit: I've just looked up the credits on TR1. There are 3 people left who worked on it and the team was 6 (plus aditional programing and art of another 6)
How sad to hear :(...and how crazy to hear-_-that you've played it. Lucky...did oyu like it:) ?
