View Full Version : One big reason why CD doing the Remake is good

What better way for Crystal Dynamics to see what makes a great Tomb Raider game than to remake the classics? When they get their hands on the level designs and start remaking them they will become intimate with what hooked us old Tomb Raider fans in the first place. They'll be personally redoing it--not hearing about it, or even just playing it, but actually making it. This could bode very well for TR8 IMO. :D

True, at least now they'll have to understand and know and then Do what makes a Tomb Raider game good.

Yes I agree. Although I think they should still listen to the fans on what they want. I mean the classic could use some changes. like TR1, no outfits, no vehicles and stuff.

I really hope that they handle weapons the way they were handled in Legend. Can only carry one at a time. And not finding ammo in temples. Of course finding a shotgun next to a corpse would be a good idea :p

Yes! Exactly how I feel.

They will hopefully learn all about the level design and pacing of a Tomb Raider game. They will realise that flashy gadgets and annoying headsets contribute nothing to the game and ruin the sense of isolation.

This is Lara's mission and Lara's mission only!

Exactly especially if they are able to do the second one to see how it mixed tons of levels and enemies well as Legend just had the mercs! Tomb Raider was always about the different kinds of threats you were going to meet and see now they have a chance to see and Toby has a chance to relive and remember what tomb raider really means! Crystal is smart in the first place to do that!

Agreed--I didn't even think about Toby! I think he also needs to be reminded of what he did in TR1, and see for himself that TR2 was pretty darn good sequel even though he wasn't around then.

Especially in Peru she has no jacket or long sleeved shirt maybe something like the blue long sleeved in Legend would be cool! And defintley vehicles, I thought for sure when I bought the game even my dad did that we would get to ride the motorcycle I was like thats just cool! I hope that they stick with the old box art though and the stuff on the back! Also hopefully they will do two games in one where you can play the original and the Redux by Crystal they original will only be graphics and controls and the redux will be a revamped game! I doubt it but something like Mega Man powered up would be cool. But if they don't and have both the second and first game I'll be happy with that, even just TR 1!

Yes, TR 2 has much better variety of levels, I am still amazed and lean towards the first but TR two was just cool in itself especially how you go to the great wall and then return its just awesome! The cutscenes in the remake should look amazing too!

Do you think they use the legend theme or original, I sure hope its the original music, with some new stuff but mostly all the original digitally remastered! Maybe they'll even get a THX certification like a lot of games these days are doing!!!!

There's something I'm really curious about now that the Core lot said/asked:

Why are all the TR1 Remake threads in the legend forum ?

Isn't that the point of the remake, making it better?

They'll gain more attention in the Legend forum simply because this forum is extremely busy right now :wve:

damn.. I just want to have it on my ps2 now.. imagine the graphics.. imagine t-rex! :jpm:

I wish they include more fmv's and original fmv's with better quality!

+ some extras
and the original mansion! with outside!

like first when you get there she just has moved to the manor and says the thigns she said in tr1. then after completing the game all furnitures are on place. winstor carries the tea tray. out doors... etc.. motorbike! :jmp:

Agreed, doing the remake COULD teach CD to make proper levels for TR8 and down the road... let's hope so... PLEASE!!! *prays for miracle*

I totally agree! :)

Crystal will discover what we love about Tomb Raider while re-making the original and they'll hopefully keep that in mind when developing the first
Next-Gen Tomb Raider game! :jmp:

I would have guessed it'd be passed to team B...

I hope that they use the stuff that Core design did. And I hope they remember to keep the gameplay including essential movements and quietness the same too. Don't tweak the game to fit the Legend engine, make the engine fit the strengths of the Tomb Raider game. More interaction with the environment even if it's not on the "path"...rocks to clamber up that don't necessarily lead anywhere, longer jumps and so on. All the things that made the game a classic.

Well on Legend, they rotated people between teams to work on various versions... and even if it is an isolated team (I guess it will have to be) there will probably be a group of top people who oversee both projects... hopefully this knowledge will filter throughout the company! Besides they have already had months of complaining from us die-hard fans to already know they missed out on some important Tomb Raider elements. They have to have a good idea already of what to change, and a general direction in which to go forward.

I personally dont think theres anything wrong with the idea of a headset in tomb raider with Zip and Alister on it- what I dont like is the inability to turn it off, or only use it as a "cutscene for info" (a'la Metal Gear Solid)

I would much prefer to have the option of calling them when i needed them, instead of listening to them all ... the... time....
