View Full Version : The leaked trailer has caused a stink!

I dont suppose we were ever supposed to see this trailer. I am sure there are plenty of games that are made and then never see the light of day. If it were not for this, we would probably never have known that Core were making the game and that they were even still around. Even after Crystal Dynamics have made this game, there are going to be people wondering what the core version was like.
Why did this trailer become leaked?
Because somebody decided to cause trouble for fun :pi:

You think so?
Why did this trailer become leaked?
Because there are some people that aren't happy working for them. I'm surprised though that a leaked video cancelled the project.
I was thinking the same thing not ten minutes ago.
Personally I'm thoroughly glad the trailer leaked, although I'm now feeling very aprehensive.
At least now Core get credit for what looked like an Effing Top Notch Tomb Raider game- they still have it, and I never doubted that.
I don't think Eidos ever intended to show us this footage, and I don't think they ever intended to let on that Core were working on TRAE.
Imagine doing something so well, then having it taken from you and no-one ever knowing the effort you put into it? You'd be totally upset. I guess this is WHY the trailer leaked, whoever leaked it wanted Core to have credit where credit's due, and kick Eidos in the nads at the same time.

hmm we only saw one trailer, we know nothing else about it. We will never know if it was good or not.

I hate to say it, but its just that kind of industy. Games are called off all the time. Perhaps they are having a hissy fit about it.

Yeah but you said they 'still have it'. How can you tell? :D
My guess is that someone was disgruntled about Eidos' decision and took it into their own hands.
Because it looked like they did. From one naff-quality trailer that had me so much more excited than any legend trailer ever did, even the early ones. Maybe it's because TR1 is so dear to me and I recognised so much within the trailer that I felt it was going to be immensely amazing, but I just knew from seeing it - they still have it. ;)

We will never know, as Dave said, it could have controlled like AOD lol

What counts most is gameplay - not graphics. Sure the Core remake looked great but it was a remake at the end of the day. They are hardly coming up with anything original. They are simply copying a classic game at the end of the day.
When they tried to do something new, they failed (note: AOD). What would be a true test if they "still have it" or not would be to make an entirely new TR game. But there is no chance of that ever happening again.
I believe the TR franchise is in the right hands now with Crystal Dynamics. TRL may not have been as good as TR1 or TR2, but it was better than anything Core did since then.
Really, honestly wouldn't have bothered me one bit! I know it'd've (damnit, there I go again) bothered others, that's just their feelings though.
I doubt it would've anyway- they probably made getting the controlls sussed a priority after how people felt about AoD's. But as you said, we will never know.
Sadly.

So true!

"Stares in shock" What about The Last Revelation?
Does anyone know when an official trailer will be released?

Do you mean if the controls were like AOD? When you are used to playing TR1 with classic controls and then you had to play with AOD controls you would not be happy one bit lol

I think what many folks forget is that Core isn't the same studio it used to be. All the major players like Toby Gard and the Smith brothers have all left.

I think many people forget that they drove him away in the first place due to their lust for cash, and the 'make a game a year' thing.

Same here.
If I were to rank them it would be TR1 is first place then TRLR second. :)
All I want is the trailer. Whether this game is horrible or not, I'm still going to buy it regardless - and I know everyone else will, as well.
Wait, they Core cancelled the project just becuase of the stupid video? That doesn't really make any sense.

What makes you think this? The video always said it was cancelled, did it not?

yeah i think so to.

It's the exact same thing I'm wondering about. There have been leaked videos in the past, but the projects were never cancelled. Maybe their policy has change and they got ****ed off. If they have spent time for this project, I don't think cancelling it would be a wise idea. Apart from our loss, it's their loss too.
Good point Matt!

I have a feeling I have missed something? Ummm.... I thought they cancelled it because of this leaked video  What have I missed?

Well the title for the video was Cancelled PSP Tomb Raider Project. I'm thinking it was cancelled for either 2 reasons:
A) Core-Design was sold off to Rebellion
or
B) Eidos would rather of had Crystal Dynamics working on it.
Im glad Crystal Dynamics is making it, Core would screw it up.

The thing is, we dont really know why it has been called off, but it would be nice if someone from Eidos could come out and tell us, just to put an end to this.
I really cant say why, i would be guessing. Maybe they want Toby to work on it, maybe they feel Crystal Dynamics can do better, maybe they just didnt like it.
However, i really dont think a leaked video would be cause enough to call off a whole project. :wve:

Neither do I...
A leaked video should not be enough to cancel a project.
Look at half life 2, it had its game code stolen, which is even worse!

:wve:I agree Rivendell. I'm glad it was leaked too. I expect the new team will probably nick ideas and stuff from the Core TRAE, like the new puzzles and twists to surprise the older fans that the Core people said they had developed. Also maybe some of the structure designs. In the Core version it didn't look exactly the same.
I think someone at Core wanted to take some credit for their own work...
I don't blame them.

Will they get access to it? I doubt it.

And perhaps to remind us that they are still around and traiding, and making games.
Will they get access to it? I doubt it.Really? I would have thought since the material belongs to Eidos/SCi, Crystal will be able to dip into it as they wish. You think not?

I really dont know. Does it belong to Eidos or the people working on it?
I'm glad I got to see it. I loved the new dinosaurs and the leap in the cistern!
Will CD get access to it to use what they want from it? Why not? Eidos owns all TR materials, they can hand it over to CD if they want. Core was making it for eidos. Eidos can at least show CD it to let them know the direction it was taking. But will they (CD) follow it or make it again so it's all theirs? I'd say they'll probably make it fresh so they can claim it as their own rather than they just finished and tweaked cores work.

An interesting point. Core's code is the result of Core employees. Granted what we see is Lara running around but essenscialy it is lines of code. Written and invented (if you will) by a now ex- core employee. Without that code lara doesn't run, however without lara it's not tombraider (some would say). Change the variables so that what we see is a hairy trucker. Is the core programming the same? IMHO yes! Only the 'subject' has changed.
Is this Eidos property? I would argue that only the part that actually shows lara is thiers. The rest, i.e. the actual programming, is the property of the individual that 'coded' it, to do with as they wish.
I ain't no lawyer but I know if I graft for months on something I sure as hell wouldn't be happy to just'hand it over' without a fight.:D

I agree, although i dont think the Crystal Dynamics version will be anything like the Core version we all seen.

Perhaps the leaked trailer is evidence of this fight :whi:
