Stay or Go?

Go for me. i wanna find out by myself which objects are mechs and stuff. Not that I used RAD mode or anything.

So get rid of RAD mode CD. Just plain Binoculars to see farther.

^ Yes, Yes, Yes and Amen to that.

I didn't use them in legend, I found it shamefully easy anyway - the binoculars were patronising.

*Looking through the RAD Binocs at somthing shiny and up sparks ZIP "Oh Lara, That block looks pushable.." *

Yes Thank you Einstein, I knew that last week..

Definitely stay! Strange eh? Well, I think they aren't annoying since you can use them optionally. I don't see a lot of reasons for being against optional hints. They want to keep casual gamers and attract new audience. Although I hate this approach, they're going to move in this road. So I guess RAD is a safe way for doing so.

Get rid of the headset and make the rad mode the only source of hints, except this time instead of telling us patronising things like "what a beautiful mechanism" or "it looks like that can be pushed around" and replace this with interesting bits of information about the history of an area lara is in. And if there's any mercy Lara be the one giving us the hints, not Zip and Alister.

By doing this, the rad mode will have much more significance, the headset will become obscelete and the generally curious people get to find out some interesting historical pieces of info :)

Get ride of the "RAD" aspect, but keep the cool "nightvision" that the RAD gave...

I kinda just like everything to be green, lol

Lara doesn't need to have shiny goggles to tell her what her surroundings are.

She had Zip for that in TR5. ;)

Lara needs RAD mode like a walrus needs shaving foam.

Eidos, please don't include RAD mode in future games. We can manage without.

Go. A RAD mode is ridiculous - I mean, come on, binocs that tell you what you can use objects for?!

Binocs - great, every explorer should have them. Night vision goggles - very handy in dark tombs (not very Tomb Raider-y, though). But intelligent gadgets? Those would be out of place even in a Bond movie.

Here is an idea for RAD and hints in general:

Use some deep and literary sentences as hints. I mean they should be in a way that is kind of glorious and ambiguous at first glance.

I almost never used them. And when I did it was out of curiosity.
Apart from being a complete waste the recorded lines where idiotic:
Lara:OMG!This is something could move!
Alister:What a remarkable contraption!(and you are looking at a door.Yes.Truly remarkable)
or the best one:That's a mechanism!

So,binoculars with high analysis:cool!
Night vision: cool!
Infared to help you see something you cannot see,eg. an illegible inscription):cool!
Stupid, useless,RAD mode: get the hell out of here.

The RAD Binoculars were a great idea. They gave us clues if we were utterly and hopelessly stuck, and it was totally optional. However, they were completely useless since the levels were easy to begin with, and we had Abbott and Costello constantly jabbering in our ears. If the levels in AE are going to be challenging enough that we might need to use the RAD Binocs, then I say stay.

There were no binoculars in TR1, so there should be no binoculars in the TR1 remake.

You obviously never played the classics. That RAD mode rubbish is a terrible idea. It's fun to find things out on your own, and no where in TR1 were binoculars needed.

Go, definitely! It was utterly useless.

Ordinary binoculars would be fine. Ones that light up the view, like the ones in TLR would be pretty good too - for peering down long dark tunnels, or into tiny crevices for clues.

i think...

make the puzzles really really hard, tomb raider isnt a kids game, we need really hard puzzles to solve not easy 1s!

and then if theyre really hard, keep rad mode for easy mode!

I'm quite aware that there were no binoculars in the first Tomb Raider. And I find it offensive that you presume I haven't played the classics. I've played every single one of them.

My point is that I, like many people, look at wlakthrough's if they are stuck. I'm saying that if I were stuck in a certain place (and I mean really stuck), it would be nice to just whip out my RAD Binoculars and take a look around, and hopefully move along wihtout having to look at a walkthrough. It's totally optional of course so it all depends on if you the player wants to use it.

Remove RAD mode. In fact, remove binoculars all together! Maybe instead, we have those classic fly-by cutscenes to give us some direction.

Well, I think binoculars invoke that "sniper feeling" that Tomb Raider tries to avoid. Fair enough though, they seem like something everyone who raids tombs should have. I don't recall them in TR1, so I don't think AE should have them.

Sorry if you felt offended, it's just I feel that we don't need the RAD mode in a TR1 remake, that will really Legend-ize it and we don't want that, or atleast most of us don't.

Some of us prefer a more sane sniper approach than the typical run and gun absurditiy that most use. I really find it hard to understand how people want an option removed. If you do not like it do not use it, but to impose your desires on others is something that is not right. It is an option. No one is forcing you to use it.

The comments that came along with it are a different matter and I would also like to see them as an option.

Personally I never used it, because everything in the game was just so obvious. Now if they made some good, clever puzzles that required the RAD mode to be used I wouldn't mind it staying, but in a game like Legend it's kind of redundant.

It would be nice if they weren't needed - by that I mean that it would be great if the next TR games took the approach that this new Assassin's Creed has taken in which you can climb anything that sticks out more than 2 inches - this way you wouldn't need RAD mode to show you what's climbable or hookable etc... since a lot of stuff would be lol. I know the RAD didn't exactly show climbables lol but I'd love that sort of freedom. :p

Keep it. You don't have to use it, it won't harm you if it's there. The RAD mode is usefull if you are stuck somewhere, instead of taking a walkthrough you could try it to find if you missed some moveable object.

Remember, RAD mode is something you have to turn on yourself. If you don't like it, don't use it. It's not like the headset you cannot turn off, they should make an option there to enable or disable chatting and/or hints by Zip/Alister. The RAD mode already can be turned on and off, no need to get rid of it.

CD ripped off Nintendo with the RAD mode anyway...

It reminded me of the Metroid Prime scan mode.

I used it, of course, to test them, I had a laugh to hear Legend Lara's comments on objects, like "It's A Mechanism". If you don't want to use them, don't use them, some people can take advantage of them.

In principle, I don't like the RAD (or notebook hints, or anything ingame clues like that...) because it tempts me to cheat... Yes, I know I can cheat anyhow by just looking up a walkthrough on the net, but the convenience of using these things encourages me. I AM weak!

At the same time... it doesn't seem fair to prevent people who do like these things from having them when I'm not forced to use them...

Selfish me says - No to hints and clues in any form.
Fair me says - OK... if you must. Better this than other ways...

As a side note - I did try the RAD in Legend once and it showed me nothing that wasn't obvious. I think it showed a block was movable or something... So I have a feeling it doesn't help that much anyway.
