View Full Version : Blood and Gore - Yes or No?
Well since Legend didn't have any blood at all.. (Apart from that Cutscene in Peru showing Kent dying), there wasn't any blood..
Do you think Chimpy Dynamics will add blood just like the classics or leave it out? When Lara fell into spikes or got shot, it was more realistic in the classics! :vlol:
Do you want it in the game and do you think Crystal Dynamics will leave it out?
I dont know. Doesnt bother me, I dont really want Gore or blood in a new TR game, especially with today's technology
I suppose I'd like a bit, but I don't think I'd like lots, as in Lara falls off something breaks her kneck and a pool of blood issues around her head.. No, I don't think I'd like to see that much - but like there was in TR1, yeah.
Yes I think blood should be in. Imagine how cool it would look dropping on a pit of spikes in todays graphics. And also blood let you know when you were actually hitting your target so blood looks good as well as being useful.

Not fountains of blood and guts or anything silly, that isn't TR at all. Just some little non-disturbing squirts like in the old games. :D

I don't see the difference between no blood and blood squirts...
I will see a difference when there is no gib in Quake...
Keep it like the original, little blood splatters when things get shot, but the atlantians still need to blow apart! :jmp:

I don't think extreme gore is suitable. But its good to feel that lara is real, and the enemies too. When you shoot people or animals in TRL you just see a spark of light and hear a sound which is like someone hitting a plastic wall with a hammer. Very odd!
WhosaidAODwasbad
17-06-06, 17:58
Yeah I like the older TR's with a little blood, although I liked games like God of WAr and Prince of Persia Warrior Within the gore is a bit much for me it just wouldn't be tomb raider, because Tomb raider isn't about blood and gore every where except in Atlantis!
It wouldn't be tomb raider... because the old games couldn't really support blood and gore, but I dont know I think seeing some gore from an incorrect jump would make the game feel much more dangerous and bring the atmosphere of... oh whats the game about anyway... OH YEAH, running through ancient tombs and death traps, more to life.
a bit of blood would be good, like whe she runs and grabs a ledge, grazes appear on her arms, and when she gets shot. but IMO i would love to be able to download something where its a cross between lara croft and mortal combat fatalities. ultimate gore. it wont be tomb raider but it'll be realistic. no-one can get squished between 2 massive rocks and not impload ;)

I don't really want blood or gore in future TR games. But those little TR1-style squirts are fine by me.

No blood please X.X i don't want to see gore. Gore makes me squimish. I don't think it would be cool to see lara fall on some spikes in next gen technology. that'll be too real for my little mind.
FYI: The comercials for The Mummy along with other movies, gave me nightmares.

Classic style gore !! - present, but not so overbearing it deserves a R/18 rating !!!
I'll say Yes to blood and gore :D
id like old TR gore, no more no less....
TR1 stlye blood is good enough. Also need to keep the sounds from falling in those spike pit. Kinda poppy/squishy. Now that made me fear them spikes.
iff they made it like real, gore blood ect, they prob ,have change the cert to 18 maybe im wrong but ,with some games like movies they got to watch what they put in,in old tr the blood looked rather cheap ect even when shimmy side ways, on, walls it not gave you any damage . with the lava level.
Blood and gore doesn't belong in Tomb Raider, because it would make it 18+...
The game is not realistic but cartooney.
When I say blood I mean like it was in old trs. You just see a bit of red on your target so you know when your hitting them. It makes it realistic and lets you know when you hit your enemy. Thats what it should be like in the remake.

I don't know I think TR was an enjoyable game because it was real but not really reality! Blood or not is okay with me, except at the most make it orignal TR blood, nothing too drastic like POP or God of WAr! Plus I don't think it really takes or gives anything to the game! Unless its atlanis levels then, OKay!

HEAVENS NO!!!!!!There are players that get easily scared *whistles*
Nice name btw!!!!
YES BLOOD AND GUTS! Just like in God of War. Or at least wall splatters like in Counter Strike. And it needs to be realistic! The more blood and guts the better. Sorry to sound so sadistic, but as the graphics improve they need to look more realistic.

It doesn´t matter! After watching Leon Scott Kennedy´s head rolling after the chainsaw man did his job...everything else is a fairy tale. I don´t remember having any problem with GoW. In fact, it was more sexual than violent.

You know, in Resident Evil 4, there is a man with a bag over his head and carrying a chainsaw (he is a normal enemy of the game). He might kill you with one hit. He goes right after your head, so you see the cutting and all the blood here and there, while you see his head falling from his body (which falls a bit later) and rolling all over the place
TR doesn't need blood and gore.
I concur :)
Blood and gore isn't added for reality's sake, it's added for sensationalism and glorification.
I'm sure that if there are any ex-service people on here who have seen active duty they will confirm that blood and gore isn't sensational.
No thanx :(

yes but just a little like the classics
As long as it's done the same way as the classics (i.e. small drops of blood and gore in being the skinless cat people) There's no need to turn the game into Resident Evil. :)

Some blood would be fine, as long as it gets the T rating. TR has always been T rated, I don't think it should stray away from that. There are a lot of younger people who wouldn't be allowed to play it too.

My last answer I cut short since I had misunderstood the first post. (that`s what happens when you're tired)
I didn't notice that Legend had left out blood. Simply because there isn't much blood in TRs in general.
However, I really like the ragdoll physics, it was fun to watch Lara fall to her death, and I prefer those deaths a mile over the blackout thingy.
I really dislike the idea of goring the games up, it needs gore as little as unlockable lipstick. I really dislike RE and other gory games since I believe in a nice and healthy sleep lol.
Mabey a little, but not a lot. Mabey like AOD type and TR1 mixed together (if that makes any sence):D
I think they should input blood in the game. Realistic blood. But not overdoing it.
But blood should come out of the corpses, like in Resident Evil.
Solution for Crystal Dynamics: Make "blood" a switchable option

Not only I think blood should come out of corpses,as I believe we should be given a pair of twin Glocks and we should be able to watch uncensored sex...:ton: .
Seriously, why? Who wants a more violent game may buy one;why spoil the game play with a senseless content?TR is an adventure game, not a terror/gore one.

The maker of TR should make distinct rating.
The first TR,they should make Rating Pending
the other TR they should make mature TR with blood and gore
without changing the story and plot.Just make a distinctive series :)

Yes to blood, No to gore. I think everyone pretty much agrees that a game focusing around a girl who runs around around shooting everything that moves has violence in it and the game has to own up to that, but gore is the point where it just becomes excessive and disturbing.
I did enjoy Resident Evil 2, but I think it was much easier to make tasteful-looking gore during the PSX era. Excessive gore in more primitive graphics really looked more campy and fun, you could indulge your aggressive side and enjoy the violence without having to see or worry about what actual violence can do to people. I don't plan on ever playing a horror game in the PS3 era...
Also, sometimes the concept of character deaths can be more disturbing then blood squirting out or whatnot; I still wince whenever I see Lara get impaled on the spikes, even in primitive little TR1, because the concept of that happening to someone is just genuinely disturbing. I think I became a better TR player just to save Lara from that grisly scene.
In classic TR there's a bit gore, right??
Just little specs of blood when she was getting shot or biten and some on the spikes. But it wasn't oozing all over, no nasty guts dripping out of her or anything truely gross.
Yes Tomb Raider should have blood but not too much,we don't want to make Lara a butcher....

YES! WE CAN ACTUALLY SEE THAT LARA IS MORTAL WHEN SHE BLEEDS!
mmmm can you guys remind me when she bleeds? apart from the spikes, cause theyre already bloody before she falls in. Oh ya, In tr6 when her hands are covered in blood in Vernon's appartment. I LOVE THAT PART!
Blood yes, gore no. Just a little bit of blood, though, just like in TR1-5, so you can see when Lara's been hit (rather than just see her life bar shrink). What I really do miss are her awkwardly twisted limbs and the horrible cracking sound of her bones when she falls a long way down, that was painful just to watch (without being gory). That was a great element of immersion, I'd like to have it back. :mis:

I agree Mona :tmb:
I think there should be blood because the first TR game had blood splashes and that was ten years ago, so why no blood now?
That actually brings up an interesting point, should Lara gain scratches and marks on her body after rolling and climbing alot?
I think it makes sense as its more realistic, I think thats whats wrong with Legend, sure shes dirty after rolling around alot and drips of water after taking a dip but when she falls and nearly breaks her neck theres not a scratch on her - a bit too unrealistic I feel :(
I suppose that could lead to the self healing idea where Lara would find plants and stuff to help heal herself, mix a couple of plants together and she has a strong healing potion or something like that :p
maybe like blood spray.;)

I Really liked that addition, and the wetness after water :D
Now just add some tears (rips, not eye drips ;) )and scrapes and it'll be great!
I hope there is a bit of blood in it
by the way if you jump in spikes in tr1 there is loads of blood! try it out and dont just think you can remember cause theres a lot of blood in the spikes

The reason, why previous "TRs" had blood and still remained T-rated is because with that time technology there was little Core could do to make the game feel blood-gory-messy-gross. Today with all that tech level we saw in "Doom 3", "Quake 4", "Bloodrayne", etc. it would be to easy for vampire-game developers (CDs that is) to make a really bloody M-rated game. That way "TR" will lose the audience.
I don't really have a preference either way. I think the blood is a bit superfluous really; I found that it was pretty obvious when I was hitting an enemy so it would really just be there for show. But likewise, I wouldn't have a cow if they included it.
And if it was the bright red blood of the original games, I would still laugh at it. That was so awesomely bad.

I definately think there should be blood n guts n gore. I loved the fact that u hheard laras bones break in the early games... it was something that made u feel more protective of her.. n then when u got bored i was always fun to try find different wasy to kill her lol... I think it adds a element of carefor the character and u try ur best not to die. I rememebr the first game when i'd fall Id cringe as she screamed and then broke her neck.... BRING IT BACK and make her scream sound like she is terrified.
All CD need do is incorporate in-game censorship options like the Killer Instinct and Resident Evil games.

A little blood, yes. Similer to the original games. Gore? No. Who wants an 18 cert. game anyhow? Resident Evil 2 had blood and gore absolutely gushing everwhere and that was an 18.

Ha! Like in F.E.A.R., where you shoot someone with a shotgun and they scream and their arm flies off, and blood and muscle splatters all over the room? No, I don't think that detailed, but certainly something convincing.

What is Tomb Raider without gruesome death? No, it doesn't need to be exploitative or too knowingly nasty, but it can't be sanitized either. I hate it when enemies disappear when they die, and when splattering blood looks like a pinkish orange transparent sprite. Remember that old promotional picture of Lara holding the severed heads in her hand? She's cut and bleeding in two places; and her hair and one of her holster straps has been undone. Tomb Raider was all about exploring dangerous areas, so those dangers need to be apparent. Let the blood spill, but don't turn it into a horror show.
No, I like the way it is just fine. Just don't use the fade outs when Lara dies, that's silly.

Whoa, I don't think I ever saw that promotional pic you are talking about. Do you have a link to it? I would like to see it :)
Blood but not gore! I hate that Lol.

Blood but not gore! I hate that Lol.Here's how dictionary.com defines the word:
gore /gɔr, goʊr/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[gawr, gohr]
–noun
1. blood that is shed, esp. when clotted.
2. murder, bloodshed, violence, etc.: That horror movie had too much gore.
So if gore is defined as blood from a wound, what's the difference between gore and blood? Should the next TR games involve Lara having blood tests or something but no combat or gunplay? I don't get it.

I suppose I'd like a bit, but I don't think I'd like lots, as in Lara falls off something breaks her kneck and a pool of blood issues around her head.. No, I don't think I'd like to see that much - but like there was in TR1, yeah.
I agree with u Riv.
Dictionary.com is unreliable. Merriam Webster defines as the following:
Main Entry: 4gore
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, filth, from Old English gor
1 : BLOOD (http://www.merriamwebster.com/dictionary/blood); especially : clotted blood
2 : gruesomeness depicted in vivid detail
YES! I'm a sadist! I like to see fake people suffer when they're killed.
NO ! TOMB RAIDER IS NOT A RESIDENT EVIL !!!
Yes to blood and gore but not that much so it's like Resident Evil/Silent Hill.

I don't want bloody Lara. People do you want Lara to become like this?:
http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/7615/thesuffering2df3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
This topic is very famous as a subject in this forum.
Look~ This thread opened JUNE/2006 but not yet on the top page!!!
That's mean so much time bumping up by so many ppl who see it.
So MOD(or Admin) who can make poll, now must beginning
to poll about this after more 130-150 replies and go over inner
10 pages under that subject. For setting-up a certain
kinds of way in this TR for giving to some notice to EIDOS.
And separating those on the DB.
Making new forum and saving it there.
So we can see easily what topic was
over 100 reply in this forum historically.
And then maybe they who made those subject,
will be able to be a MOD here by democatical
method on this forum voting system.

When I saw this pic, I think this guy put on Hawaiian T-shirt~ hehe~ :D
What do you do and think if they say "I like to become like that"
(as a Lara) Look on this topic!!! Yes~ Yes~ Yes~ Please~ Yes~ Yes~
Not small voice of YES here on this forum!!! You know? Mordern Tech.
surely will be able to make like that. But this is problem of EU game
association policy (or not) so should this TR game level up to "over 18
years old" when we would like to see like scean in TR. This is juridical
problem over tech. So there will be new problem comming.
"You want to level up this TR game over 18-19?"
This is more realized subject and then sub-title will then "blood" I guess.
Anyway I'd like to make a poll on this subject if I'm a MOD. And I'd like to
ask a question to the ppl How do you think about messing-up? (execpt for blood)

Maybe you don't need fire-spread on to every houses instead of insisting
to argue on the blood?!?! Now I just think suddenly that more interesting
than blood making big and black smoke with fire-granedes.
I'd like to be Nero insistly than Arthor on this TombRaider~
hehe~ :jmp:
AeMnhS2r-EA
(Need more continue to flair higher and black smoking spread larger.)
They bumped the rating, maybe there will be a little more blood.
This topic also hang on a poll right now.
Don't haste any topic over 130-150 reply
going to hang a poll immediately and keep
this topic (until 500 voters/24,000 members)
on the DB and closing.
Bumping meaningless where is no poll.
(=Only preventing same topic creating for bump.)
Why Bumping? Or increasing voter until 500.
This mean, don't create over-lap new topic.
And Sooner finishing this poll and closing this topic.
If we should discuss reapeat same issue making new topic area,
that's waste time. Rather gen-chat is better. What is gen-chat?
Reapeat, Repeat, Reapeat, Repeat, Reapeat, Repeat, Reapeat....
There is no conclusion and same topic reapeat again.
So why poll? (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showpost.php?p=1586106&postcount=5) That's mean some DATA show to EIDOS.
What is purpose of discussion here? Why are you come
into this FORUM? The 1st purpose is giving to any INFO
to EIDOS (directly) for making more approching to user's
need. With what source?!?! This is MOD job.

I will like it a bit but be sure that Core Design will come back and nicer TR games will come.I hope that will come true.
There's no hope of that happening Kryptonite. Core Design have no members anymore - it's just a name. The people who worked for Core Design have been bought by a different publishing company - Rebellion - who have nothing to do with Eidos. They can no longer make Tomb Raider games. Until the next developer - we're stuck with Crystal. Make the best of it.
be sure that Core Design will come back
Be sure they won't. ;) They are history.

Legend is dreadful but I hope TRA is gonna be a lot better hopefully
Think so.
Legend was their first try. They now know, what to do. They got enough feedback to get to know what wasn't so good and what was really good done.
