View Full Version : My Theory on the Leaked Trailer

I think it was CD's game in the trailer, I just think someone may have plonked a Core Design logo onit at the end.. If this is so, the game is already well in production im guessing. Everyone knows the trailer was to good to be a fake.
Anyone else think this?
From one of the Core boys...
The trailer you saw was entirely our own work (code, animation, models, texture etc.) and no one else's.
It belongs to us and we do not intend to give out anything that went into making it.
I'd take this up with him and his Core buddies if you doubt anything! ;)
It wasn't a fake that's for sure.
But it was Core's, not CD's. The way that Lara runs and exactly like she did in old times. The jumps are huge and it also looked like a grid based system. I also noticed how Lara pushed a block in St. Fracis' Folly Level. it was identical to the old one. Just better graphics.
so 99% chance is that that was Core's.

I think it was CD's game in the trailer...
This is an interesting theory. Many of the moves seen in this trailer were straight out of Tomb Raider Legend (the way she shimmied for one example), and bore little or no resemblance to Lara's movements in the earlier games while under the tutelage of Core Design.
Based on this, I would be inclined to believe this is footage from Crystal Dynamics, and not Core Design.
On the flip side, I have no reason to doubt Core Design. The whole thing is puzzling for sure...

So Mellow Yellow works for Core?
So Core did make it?
If this is so, thanks for clearing it up for me..
EDIT: Still very confused about it, im sure it is CD's work. Only time will tell :D
I have it on good source that it is cores. Eidos shared info from legends moves and core incorporated them. I can NOT reveal this source, but trust me, it's cores. I've already said too much, sorry to my source! :( But I am tired of people thinking this is CD's work.

Fair enough, I will have my opinion, and I think it's CD's work. Please don't get worked about it :)
My personal take on it is:
Eidos asked Core to make the moves similar/the same as Legends moves because it sort of makes more sense.
If new people are introduced to this game, after playing Legend, TR1s moves are well, a little basic in comparision (not saying they are bad!) But it makes sense for the games to have the same movements if they are being released around the same time

Good theory...
Cause if it is cancelled, why would they remove it? Maybe it's a leak, so they don't want it to be around...

Come on tlr (and the rest of you) we as a company have put an official statement out telling you it is our work, so has Eidos. Why cant you guys believe that?
Just becuase they "look" like CD's Lara! We have excellent animators here and we just made an obvious progression from the previous games to this game (as im sure CD did).

Core even made an announcement on their website. I think its safe to say they didn't lie. Sure the moves look like crystals but maybe it was intentional.

I think you'll find that the way she moves bares a striking resemblence to a little game called "FreeRunning" that we developed last year. TAE was is using the same animation engine. Believe me now?????

:vlol: TR123, how can you Still think its CD's work, even after Core has confirmed it's theirs?
15th June 2006, 11:02:06
Following speculation on the internet, we would like to offer the following clarification.
The video of Tomb Raider: 10th Anniversary Edition that appeared on certain sites was an unauthorised release of an internal presentation of a game that was being developed by Core Design until very recently. It was running on PSP and used a Core-developed engine. However, following a recent review this project has been officially cancelled by SCi.

BTW. Yes, me, Bandit, toiletroll66 (still unidentified employee), Megazorb and Strangly Brown (plus some others) are from Core (identity confirmed by your friendly sysop tlr)

Core said they did all their own work internally. CD said they did all the Legend work internally. Each company used their own engines and did their own animations, but a lot of times people are on similar wavelengths about stuff. Things wind up similar looking because that's the next logical progression, like Mellow Yellow said. Plus they all know what's going on in the game industry and everyone probably has similar influences (POP, for one).
None of this matters anymore anyway. The suits have made their decision, so we play the game they release or none at all. ;)

Mellow, calm down. :) The problem is that when you explain something here in this forum, there are so many people and so many threads that it can happen that half the people who are not in the know will not read your answer when you give one.
Just post a link to where you said something before, it will save you this "I told you before" feeling. :)
And yes, it is annoying to be so bluntly taken for a liar.
by the way, Free Running looks brilliant! Why do you make games just for this puny psp? I don't intend to buy one because I hate small screens. Pity, I'd love to try this game out!

Err, exactly how much evidence do you want? The evidence is on the Core Design site (quote as per Rivendell), through Eidos (who announced the cancellation) and from the Core boys themselves. Considering we aren't going to get proof via a direct 'see, we made it really!' link up, showing the Core boys playing through a working version of their game, I say we stop the speculation and, err, believe the evidence that has been presented to us. I for one see no reason not to.
(Funnily enough, I get this with my artwork. People refuse to believe I've drawn stuff (even when I show them the originals...), and refuse to believe I paint my digital stuff from scratch without any manipulation (even after they've seen the prelims). So I totally understand Mellow's annoyance atnot being believed...)

Sorry, I made this thread not knowing about any announcement from Core, I dont get as much time on my PC as some people on here, you cant blame me for not going on Core's website! I think that's a symptom of REALLY being excited about the TR1:AE, Mellow Yellow, and then being highly disappointed. I saw the video and was WHOLLY impressed with it. Knowing that this work will never see the light of day is a bit of a let down.
I think those that like this work the most are those who had hoped (like myself) that a great combination of current graphics/playmechanics and Core's old school gameplay environment and atmosphere could finally be in our hands.
I'm not saying I don't like TRL....... but it's not what I had hoped for in Eidos and CD's TRL. (I gave it a 75 - 77%)
I really feel for those that put all the effort and work into it. Their talant surely shows.
BUT............. life goes on. C'est la vie.

can you just change the main character and release it as Tomb Enter-and-Take-Stuff-that-is-Ancient =)
Ok, here's my guess why people could get to think it looked like Legend Lara...
I read somewhere (and this may or may not be true, but I think it is, really) that the Legend team took both model and movements from AOD Lara and started working from there...
So, it's possible for AE Lara to look like Legend Lara, 'cause basically it was the same thing being done, only by different teams... sorta... right?
Ok, just my thought.
But now that you mention aliens...
That's also a reasonable explanation...

So Core was making a remake at the same time CD was making Legend? It would certainly make sense and explain the moves and the grid in one trailer.

Now the pussy's out of the sack. :cln:
I've read that several people wouldn't want Core doing TR again because of members leaving and none were apart of the original Core team.
I think that's a load of crap. Any company would hire someone that fits what they're looking for. Core not excluded. They would look for people that did something similar to what they do and has the same passion as they do. Its about teamwork.
I believe, if given the chance, Core's remake of TR1 would have been amazing despite original people missing.
Toby Gard wasn't apart of TR2. That was an amazing game, yes?

How about some prints of some stills from the trailer, taped to an unfeasibly large salmon and slapped around the side of the head. Would that convince him? :D

I've been playing Legend all evening. Its great! I quite like the control system (PC) and it looks nice. (Thanks to nixes for the effects on that one i guess). The cinematics are great (CD do have a cool cinematics editor in their engine) and apart from the slightly anoying camera, the 1 crash and the dodgy collision in parts it is a pretty good game :D

I really like those, although i think its a current trend. We've got some in our current project :)
I think they were well done, but that's as far as my praise for them goes in legend - I'd so much rather have done those parts manually in proper Tomb Raiding fashion!!
I don't like interactive cutscenes at all. It takes away from the game that you're suppose to be playing.
A cutscene should just be some talking and insight.

PLEASE do me a HUGE personal favor, play TR1 after you finish with legend. I want to see your take on the differences that make up the experiences of the two games. Not so much the technical aspects, yes the controls will feel different, lara's movements will be limited in the old game compared to the new. But what I mean is the feeling of the game, what you ultimately get out of it. What was more of a challenge, what was more rewarding of an experience. What was more bang for your buck of what each game gave you. What scared you more, what aggravated you more, what shocked or surprised you more, what entertained you more, what made you laugh more, etc... See how much more of a challenge the puzzles are, how much harder the traps were. How much more playing time you get from the old vs. the new. Look at the variety in the types of traps, puzzles, environments, enemies, even the complexity of the storyline.
A lot of us here feel that the original is what made the series famous. Not easy puzzles, safe traps, never losing your grip or being able to finish the game in record time as in the new one. The difficulty and challenge was the game. We had to use our brains, not just our reflexes. I for one know which was a richer, more rewarding experience. And that was what made it a better bang for the buck. It was about the gameplay, not lara's looks.
Can someone post the trailer please!!
