I think that 90% of the time people who say CD mean Crystal Dynamics, CD is just a lot easier to write.
Core is a short word anyway, so people tend not to abbreviate it ;)

:( cryyyysssttttaaallll dddyyynnnaaammmiiicccss it's so long
To simplify :

CD = Crystal Dynamics
Core = Core design

CD = Crystal Dynamics
Core = Core design

Thats what most people tend to say.

I think people also use Core because the D-part of the name is so generic. It's like the fact that the company that is usually named Apple is actually Apple Computers. Nobody cares about the second part here because any company could have the name. The difference is in the first part. Similarly, nobody cares if it's Core Design or Core Industries or Core Cooperation or whatever.

For Crystal Dynamics, it's different, because Dynamics is not a generally agreed company suffix. While you might expect "Foo" to be named "Foo" cooperation or "Foo" industries or whatever, you wouldn't expect them to name it "Foo" Dynamics. So here, Dynamics is more part of the name because it is comparatively unique. And that's why it is part of their abbreviation.

Nice explanation. I don't know if I could have understood this whole issue otherwise!!

Whenever I think of Crystal Dynamics, I think of crystal meth.
Whenever I think of Core Design, I think of the sun.

I know it's not just me.
