i've decided to go from a geforce 6800gs 512mb ram to a x1600xt. it's really for budget reasons as it's alot cheaper. here's it's specs: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?sap-x16xt&P=1
and here's a link to the 6800gs: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?gwd-68gs&P=1
thanks for any help!
Well, if you want to play Legend in Next-Gen, you'll be happier with the 6800. It appears to be the more powerful card, especially as far as memory is concernded (it has more and a wider bus), which is always a very good thing for computer games.

will it play legend in next gen though? playable or bad?
a stock clocked 6800GS would perform pretty much the same as a x1600XT, but now was the http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/6608/nvidiaintext8qh.gif card was a bit overclocked, so it would probably win in a benchmark. as for the 512mb, its more of a PR trick then a winning feature on that kind of card.
i dont think the 6800 is worth £50 more, so if i had to choose between those two, i would take the ATi card.
however, there is an overclocked http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/6608/nvidiaintext8qh.gif GeGorce 7600GT card from XFX in the the same store.
its overclocked from 560/1400 to 590/1600, and should be quite a bit faster then the X1600XT.
the price is in between the x1600XT and GF6800GS cards.

its also a good alternative

The 6800gs is actually the better performer how can a x1600 perform better if its 128bit as the 6800gs is 256bit with a gddr3 speed ram the x1600 only has dd2 i bought that x1600 i was dissapointed with the performance, my 6800 with 128 performs better because of the 256bit bus.

Python what kind of framerates are you getting and all of the features arent on I bet, A x1600 pro cannot play ng with smooth framerates it can run it, but it will be a chugfest because i tested the x1600pro and my 7800gs that i used to have performed way better.
Pythontrainer, as you can understand from that thread, that is a driver's/Legend engine issue, and it is recommended to use Catalyst 6.3 and not 6.6.
About the X1600 cards: guys please be precise! There is a X1600Pro 256MB DDR2 (AGP and PCI-express version), even a X1600Pro 512MB DDR2 (PCI-Express), and a X1600XT 256MB DDR3 (PCI-Express) which make a great difference!
A card with DDR3 memory will perform way better. The XT's chip is faster, the memory is faster. I haven't seen a X1600XT with 512MB DDR3 memory yet.

Joseph, do you think a 6800gs with 512mb of gddr3 ram can run next-gen with a pentium 4 3.4 and 2 gigs of ram?
I would think so, but it is not the ideal card of course (being a 6xxx series). Is the price very attractive, i mean can you give a link to that card?

sure http://www.gainward.net/products/product.php?products_id=10
It says no price, but this seems a very good card! The price would have to make the difference if you go with this one or a GF 7800GT 256MB (which has a difficulty running next gen at decent framerates).
What is the price for this Gainward 7630-BLISS 6800GS 512MB GS GLH?
In this thread (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=68719), a GF6800GS 512MB is disappointing... :( [EDIT. But that is with Classic Tomb Raider... i guess with a custom level..., this should not happen on a GF 6880GS which is really a gigantic card for DX7 games... :pi: ]

Its about 250-270 american dollars.
And this one, try to get a hold of this one: XFX GeForce 6800XT 512MB GDDR3 eXtreme, PCI-Express (http://www.komplett.nl/k/ki.asp?sku=317106&view=detailed)€ 171,00 ,
If you want to profit from most recent yesterday's high end it's a very interesting card! :)
