View Full Version : I was playing Tomb RAider1, 2, and 3!?

I was play the first Three tomb raiders and beat the first two and I am in Area 51 which is my first stop after India! ONe thing I noticed which should be in tomb raider is more life like areas! I know CD did a good job with city levels especially Japan! But the High Security Compound and ARea 51 levels are super dark! I don't know if its only my TV or playstation but the first fifteen mintues of High Security I played in the dark. Because of course they took your flares and everything else! In a really government facility I would expect it to be atleast pretty good lighted! How in the world would MP's know where to find inmates if they got out! It was difficulty and I final beat it for the 3 time! Also I was playing in the INdia levels and on the ATV there are no lights! So I was thinking in Tomb Raiders from now on there should be lights on your vehicles you can turn on and off depending on the time of day and if you are being chased! Execpt I wouldn't expect lights on a speed boat! Also Tomb raider should implement a 24 hour day system so that levels will look different and play a bit different every time! The replay value would go up and it would be cool to see some places originally at night during the day and vice versa! Tomb Raider 3 has been alot of fun, but something really bugs me you can't light a flare on the ATV to see and there are no lights! I remember in tR2 you could light a flare on the boat in Venice! CD get lights on your vehicles in the next tomb raider to turn on and off!

That is marvelous and some puzzles may depend on the night day cycle.
Or some secrets / animals could be available at night only.
Every little helps to increase replay value. I like your ideas, especially the morning, evening and night feature. If I may, I'd add weather affects too, especially in the mansion.
Anyway, to me TRL was a good game but it was too short and easy, not enough puzzles, too linear and gunplay was weak. If those aspects were to be fixed, I do believe that TRAE and future Tomb Raiders will be amazing.

Yeah I would like that too a weather feature! So you could get rain or snow maybe even a blizzard. that would be sick to play the tibetan Foothills or Kazakstan level at night during a blizzard! that would be sick! Also the thing about animals so you would have noturnal animals come out during the night and during the day you would have those animals!
I was thinking the exact same things, of course with my old age I forget easily but those are wonderful ideas!
I would say that different times of day and weather should be something that you can unlock. Look at TR4, as you go along and the story gets darker, the sky also gets darker (and starts to look unhealthy). If there is such a time/weather system, it would work best if you can choose this after you finished a level, so you first get to see the level as it was meant to be.

For TR3 at least, there's a simple solution to the darkness problem - turn up the gamma. The default for the game is pretty low, but if you turn it up to 7 or 8, the game takes on a whole different look, and you rarely if ever need flares at all! (You can adjust the gamma through the detail levels icon on the main page of the game).
Btw, great idea about the day/night function. It would be really cool if after playing a level and finding certain secrets, you could unlock this feature and replay in a completely different time of the day.

Wait Mytly do you have TR3 on PC or PS1? Because I have it on PS1 and I don't see any thing too mess with the picture, I know on the PC version you can! And tomb raider Legend has it which I love especially since I have a 20 year old NEC thats brightness is worse than my Parents big screen brightness on 25 percent! so when I can I play on the big screen!? Other than that AREa 51 and High Secruity Play super dark!:(
Oops, sorry, I was talking about the PC version, didn't realize the PS1 doesn't have this function. Are you sure that it doesn't, though? I mean, I myself didn't realize this until I had played through the whole game once, cursing the darkness!

I know its so dark, thats why I love legends little feature that should be in ever game! I mean I even looked at the PRima Strategy Guide and they got perfectly lighted screens and I am wondering why am I fumbling in the dark! Thanks, Thank goodness that I am done with Nevada now!:)

I've always loved that idea; seeing it used in games like GTA and such. And think about how replayable those games are! I could only imagine what Tomb Raider would be like with an internal clock...
