I have used the QWERTY keyboard for 7 years and can type 155 words per minuite.

Since the QWERTY keyboard was made in 1860s and was meant to slow typists down so they did not damage their typewritters how fast can you type. How many words per minuite. You can test yourself on a word processor.

jarhead
14-07-06, 16:39
do you mean something like a game where you can test to see your type count??

andyes thats awsome, i can type pretty fast but when it comes to complicated words like necessary or inintentional things like that i tend to slow down.

No. Open something like Microsoft Word and get a clock or timer. Type what ever words you can as fast as you can for a minuite. Look at the clock if you can while typing and then stop when the timer gets to 0 seconds or 60 seconds/1 minuite. and count how many words you have done. The words need to make sense and all incorrect spelt words to not count. Then report your score here. This is a fun activity to see how fast you are.

Or use this word count but you still have to time yourself - http://www.javascriptkit.com/script/script2/countwords.shtml but minus any incorrecly spelt words

It said 167, but I think I was doing it for a little bit longer than a minute. Lol. I'd say I was about the same as you, laracroft2122. :wve:

I don't have a QWERTY keyboard, I have a QWERTZ keyboard, which is the normal keyboard everybody has in germany. I have an official typing rate of 120 words per minute, I even have a certificate for that lying around somewhere. No idea why I would ever need that, but it's always nice to have. On my laptop, though, I'm usually a little slower because some keys tend to stick here since I accidentally poured Coca Cola over the keyboard, so I have to stop and correct more often.

I can manage about 90wpm on a good day. :) Depends on the keyboard though - my dad has an ergonomic one and it's much more comfortable to use. :o

That's the most idiotic way you could ever decide to do it. I could just type 'ANT' over and over again.

Take a proper test for goodness sake. I took that and I managed an 85/90. Which is overall better than most people in offices.

First, every language has it's own keyboard version. German keyboards use QWERTZ and have a quite different right edge than english keyboards because we need a few letters more. French keyboards start with AZERTY.

Apart from that, there are also alternative layouts for english (and for other languages, too), most famously the so-called Dvorak one, which is named after it's inventor (not to be confused with the one guy at the one technology site that has no clue about anything). It's fans claim that it is superior to the normal QWERTY keyboard. Actual tests have seen better results with Dvorak, better results with QWERTY and more or less identical results, most test always a little different. Whether it is really faster and more comfortable to type on, I don't know.

In Portugal there was CESAR for typewriters but it went out of use.
My typing speed and acuracy are awful but my life does not depend on it. :)

Are you a computer or something?

How can anyone type that fast? I can only type 65 wpm. I was in Keyboarding class last semester (not that i really needed it) but the fastest person in that class can only type 71 wpm.
