Between The Official and Unofficial? I can only see that when building it looks a bit different untextured from some screens? (I think?)

the official level editor runs off the tr4 engine... so, you can do everything that can be done in tr4 in a sense...
the unofficial editor is used to create with the other engines (tr1, 2, 3 and 5) so, in the tr4 engine, lara for example cannot climb up on pushable blocks or carefully walk through spikes. but in the tr1 engine she can. just as an example.
of course, each engine has its set backs... like, if you create a level in the tr1 engine, youll have blocky lara without a braid... if you want that, cool. if you dont, use one of the different engines etc.
this is a very watered down explanation, but i hope it makes sense ;)
Everything that GodOfLight said, plus the added bonus you can have diagonal walls, multiple zones, automatically avoids stretched textures, ect..
No offense, Core. But this editor totally beats yours. ^_^

I agree with Scoopy there. Although I like the sound of being able to create a level using the earlier engine! But by the way GoL said TR1-3, then 5, is there away to change it to whatever engine you want?

not really i think... like, if you want to make one level, or a series of 5 levels, you have to choose an engine.
now i think you yourself are rather fond of tr1 right? and you actually wanted to use a remake of the old lara skin in your atlantis levels. so for you, actually the best option would be to work with the unofficial editor and the tr1 engine ;) since those atlantean dagger levels you had in mind were tr1 based. but as far as i know you couldnt work in the tr1 engine for one minute, and then jump to the tr5 engine the next ;)
of course, ive been told that the unofficial editor is even more complex to understand then the official one  but don't take my word for it, i myself have never tried it :)

I knew about the other extra features of the unofficial editor you mentioned, but what do you mean with "multiple zones"?

yes that's what i've said :ton:
Unique features of official editor:
1) Support for bump-mapping
2) A bit more customizable step sounds (if it works - i haven't tested it :) )
3) Ability to edit actual object collision (for ex., make solid desk)
Unique features of dxtre3d:
1) Support for more detailed textures (up to 256x256)
2) Diagonal walls / flat triangular sectors
3) More powerful animated textures manager
4) More user-friendly and ergonomic user interface :D
Simply, when something is unofficial, it means it didn't come from an official source.
With CORE's LE you can use WadMerger. This is an unofiicial tool, which means it didn't come from CORE. So, the unofficial editors are programs that didn't come from CORE. As Michiel (a TR fan) made WadMerger, another one (Turbo Pascal) made DXTRE3D, which is an editor that does what Level Editor does.
The people above mentioned the differences. I have to say that the best option that it gives you is the creation of a level based on other TR engines.
