Welp, I finally got my copy of Tomb Raider Gold to work on Win Xp (yay!). However, the sound is TERRIBLE in the FMVs! It is really warbly and has these echo-like noises. I have a SB Live! Platinum, and I've tried using the SB and SB Pro setting on the game, niether work.
In related news, my Saturn won't recognize any CD's, so I can't play the Saturn version, either. I swear to God, somebody doesn't want me playing this game!

FMVs? You have FMVs for TR Gold?
I'm jealous http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/redface.gif Can you download them anywhere? I think they used to be on the eidos site, but I kept putting it off till later . Can you get them still?
Anyway, I've just bought a Soundblaster Live 5.1 card, and now I can't get my sounds to work at all! It auto-detects an AWE32/SB16 card, but it won't play any sounds when I test it, or in-game. And since TR1 is my favourite, that's a real bummer.

Do you have a warez version? Because the full version HAS FMV's in it. At least it does at the beginning, and I'm assuming there's more.

THAT much I can help you with. You can't auto detect it. Manually select Sound Blaster Pro, using settings IRQ 220, DMA 1 and IRQ 5. If it autodetects SB16, chances are it's detecting the SB16 emulation, which is a NIGHTMARE to get working (it's possible, but all in all very troublesome).

Well, I bought it a while ago now, as part of the Premier Collection (don't know if you have that in the USA). It's the full version with the 16+4 levels on two CDs. They don't sell the Gold levels any more, just TR1 without them (but cheaper).
Well, I feel a little stupid since I've realised that it's actually detecting my other soundcard (SB16) which I have in my PC, but which is disabled in the Control panel/system/device manager folder. I can't force it to use my 5.1 card either. None of my other DOS games work with sound either, and I can't get my CD drive to work in DOS mode so I can't run it there, though my SB16 emulation works fine.
Sorry, that's probably too much. I probably should take that other one out.

Sorry, just forgot you're using Win XP so it's mostly completely irrelevant. I'm on Win98 still.

We have it as the "Platinum collection".

First off, I'd highly recommend removing that card. It's redundant. Second, try uninstalling and re-installing TR, then manually selecting your card as a Sound Blaster Pro, making SURE you use the right DMA/IRQ settings (probably 220, 1 and 5).

Not really. SB16 emulation is what is supposed to PLAY in DOS. If you can't play sound in DOS, that's why. You need to be running in virtual DOS to have any real chance of getting a SBL card to work. Are you using the TR Windows patch?

Well, I'll get that card out as soon as pos.
Anyway, the SB16 emulation works fine in DOS, I meant I couldn't get any sound in windows. But that's all fine- I can exit to DOS and use it for other DOS games which don't need a CD drive.
What's this about a windows patch? If you mean for XP, I'm using Win98, so I don't need/have one.

Done it now, and the sound works fine. Thanks for your help, and now I've thought of something which could help you (after all, that's what I set out to do in the first place).
You say you have the Saturn version? You could try using a Saturn Emulator on your PC, and run it that way, although I don't think they made UB for the Saturn (so you won't see that legendary FMV :D).
Does the sound warble in the game, or just during the FMVs? You could download the movie player and play them through that- try this site, I'm sure I've seen it here. I hope this helps. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

I tried the Saturn emulation. Apparently, there's not a big demand, I couldn't find any ones that worked on more then a few games, and even THOSE were all written in foriegn text.
There's a movie viewer? ROX0R! That should work, thanks.
Anyone else think it lame that one of the few people who actually want an Emulator for an entirely legal reasone (IE I HAVE a Saturn AND the game), CAN'T FIND ONE? lol!

That's how I felt about my playstation emulator- I can't rip the vital bios file out of my playsation myself, so I spent ages looking for it on the net, and then I still couldn't get stuff like the FPS rate to work! Maybe the better graphics aren't worth that much... :D
Anyway, It's called ESCAPEplay and you can get it here:
The Croft Times (http://www.cubeit.com/ctimes/news0117.htm)
Just hope it works on WinXP! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
