Months ago I had decided to replay the Tomb Raider games in order; I had a slow start with school in the way though I eventually picked up the pace during the summer. My first Tomb Raider game (and my favorite) was the 3rd and I honestly don’t remember playing the first since I had done it many years ago. But from the start to finish it was an amazing experience and now I see why all you guys refer to the first when stating ideas for the next installment :) The level design was to die for! In levels such as the cistern it was just shocking! Everything was so well crafted, the caves, the tombs, those narrow hall ways that just jump out at you! It was a true Tomb Raiding experience
On a different note, I just started Tomb Raider 2 about an hour ago and Im starting to have cravings for those Atlantis levels and I’m kind of missing the tombs :( Though Venice is beautiful! I’m also having an odd urge to play Tomb Raider 4 O_O But I must hold myself back :(
 At last! Someone who feels the same way as me about TR2! I love TR2, but after the sheer terror of the Atlantis levels, it doesn't really compare (until you get to Xian, of course!). I never did like mercenary enemies for Lara... ;)

Yeah, Tomb Raider 1 is very special. It's just Tomb Raider. Even though I loved TR2, it just wasn't Tomb Raider ;) I think because Toby Guard wasn't on the team of TR2, they lost the touch of Tomb Raider. ;)
Congratulations on completing the game! :tmb:

My goodness - that's pretty much exactly what happened to me. I finished TR1, started TR2 (which is supposed to be my favourite), and I kept getting bored! And then I wanted to play Tomb Raider 4 really badly! Uncanny. o_O

Thanks guys:) I always saw people saying how special Tomb Raider 2 was here and Im so glad that some people think the same thing as me about:) Horray for not being the only ones!
Anyways, back to Tomb Raider 2. Im currently in some Library, hoarding the medipacks as usual:)
He left before TR1 hit the big time.

The creator of Lara Croft and Tomb Raider! :tmb:
NO ! .... he is not the creator of lara croft and tomb raider...
Toby only had one role in the development of tomb raider 1, and that was to design lara croft...
Other than that, he had very little input into the development of the game and thus had no input on level design, puzzle placement, graphics or FMVs...
Sorry, but this is something that really irritates me. Toby is often put on this high and mighty pedastle, and in reality....he is no way as influential to tomb raider as alot of people seem to think...
And to be honest, a lot of people seem to be realising this... (i remember many posts a few weeks ago where many people were completely slamming Toby for his somehwat selfish influences on TR:Legend...)

Yeah, but he made Lara Croft. Without him we could have has some macho man walking around Lara's house and Tombs:( The heroin we all know would have never existed. Thats why he is so high up there.

He actually originally designed a male lead character....but it was decided as a team that it would be too much like Indiana Jones...
And maybe I didn't make my post clear enough...sorry. The reason I hate this mighty pedastle is because....many people claim future tomb raider games be a great because Toby is back on board, but in reality...he has very little say on actual gameplay elements... A much wiser decision would be for Crystal to emply ex-core members who actually worked on the gameplay elements of the old tomb raiders, and not some mediocre egocentric character-artist...

So he changed it to the Lara we all know and love:) Lets just enjoy our Tomb Raider games, not ponder on the people who developed them.

Well, I agree he wont be the reason future Tomb Raider games will do better. But I do think he should remain on the team for future games but he shouldnt have as much involvment.

That probably would have been the thread I started ;)

I personally thought that the Opera Level was easy compared to the levels later. Temple of Xian = ARGH! :cen:
(Sorry, like I menitoned before...I sometimes get the level-names wrong)

This sounds sort of like my situation. I just completed TR1 last week for the very fisrt time. Have already beaten TR 2 which I thought was great and really enjoyed the different locations and story, the underwater shipwreck levels were my favorite and this game was what got me hocked into the series. I'm about 2/3rds through TR 3 but am playing this one very slow as I'm getting all the secrets so each level can take up to 3-4 nights to beat. And am in the process of playing TR LR and am still only on the 4 level....
