View Full Version : The Cistern secret, where the heck is it?

The thing is, I know how to get all the secrets in The Cistern on the PC version. But! The secret which is behind a movable block near the silver key entrances, is completely unreachable on the Saturn version of the game. The level designers have put a brick wall between the secret and the movable block! I've searched and searched the net to find a solution, but I can't find any info on this. Do I have to do something to get the brick wall disappear? I don't think so. Why do this? Is there another secret somewhere? That's hard to believe since I've searched at pretty much every darn place in that level. This is the only secret that I can't find in the whole game. So what's the deal with the wall? :hea: Thank you.

It took me ages to find that secret even after directions from a walkie. If this 'brick wall' is blocking your path, it might just be a glitch that the Saturn version has. I certainly had no problem moving the block, unless you've got your sights set on the wrong piece of wall or something.

Scottlee, I'm definitely looking at the right piece of wall. How did this wall get there is beyond me. All the other secrets are exactly at the same spots as on PC, so why would this be any different. The PSX and Saturn versions are almost identical. PSX and PC users, have you ever come across a situation where you reach a secret, but you don't get the "blim" sound (which means the secret won't show in the statistics). Does this happen on your version or is it just the Saturn version? This happens at least in the Great Pyramid (the last secret, behind the moving axe and falling plate) and in City of Khamoon (the ammo clip behind the cat statue).

Just a thought, but if you can't move the block, how do you know there's a wall in the way? Are you sure you are trying to push it in the correct direction?

As to the secrets, the only one that doesn't register on the PC version is the last one in Great Pyramid. I can't remember if it registers or not on the PS version.

I can move the block, and I'm moving it to the correct direction. I know cause I have been in that secret on PC. Everytime I play the level I just move the block away from it just for fun, but the only thing you find behind it is the wall that is not there on the PC version.

EDIT: I'll take a screen shot when I can.

Hi there, I'm new to this forum and I'm scouring the web looking for exactly the same secret! I've been playing the Saturn version of TR since it's release but only recently have started playing it adimantley. I have taken a picture of the "third secret" on the Saturn version just to give PS and PC players an idea what we face! I haven't got a clue on how to load pictures on here so if anyone would like to host the picture for me then please let me know!

As Karri said it is litterally just a brick wall, it's dark brown in shade. As with other doors on TR if you look close at the door the camera will often glitch through it indicating something on the other side, but there is absolutely nothing in this, so we know it's not a secret door.

I can host it, just email the pic to ojalak at gmail.com
Or create your own Photobucket (http://photobucket.com/) profile and upload it there.

Ok, thanks Karri, email has been sent. :D

I'm sorry, I can't find it. :/ Are you sure it was sent succesfully?
Maybe you should re-send it.

Ok, I'll try a different way.

Bearing in mind the Saturn version was the first version out, Sega apparently scored a deal with Core to release the game a few months before the PS and PC, so maybe they made some shortcuts to meet the deadline!

Edit: Just recieved a receipt saying not to re-send, the email was delayed and has been sent.

That seems like a bug on the Saturn version.

As you can see, there's a wall and you cannot move it.

Yeah it's a bug alright.

Yeah it's a bug alright.

How can anyone mess up a final version that badly? Does anyone know a good way to contact Eidos/Core? Maybe they would like to tell us what happened here..

Sorry about the picture quality, I had to use my camera and that's the best I got!

How can anyone mess up a final version that badly? Does anyone know a good way to contact Eidos/Core? Maybe they would like to tell us what happened here..

The Saturn version was rushed, Sega set up a deal with Core so that the Saturn version would be released three months before the PS and PC version. It backfired on them because the Saturn version has the most bugs, the most glitches and the worst graphics out of the versions available. I imagine Core must have took some short cuts while trying to meet Sega's deadline, so prehaps they removed this secret but were unsuccessful at removing the number from the final statistics? That's my guess.

There's a similar "invisible wall" bug that sometimes gets me in Lud's Gate on TR3, at the moment you pick up the UPV.

Scottlee's TR3 bug is brought on by saving in the wrong place. Maybe this is something similar?

Yeah the Saturn version does suck just because it has the most bugs and the worst graphics!!!!

For me the Saturn version is the best, guess it's becuase it was the first version I played and fell for.

But yes, the other versions are technically superior.

Any chance opening the doors to the right with the keys allows you to get to this secret? Maybe after collecting the two silver and 1 gold key that door opens?

Decoop!
26-08-06, 13:35
Nope, tried everything! I think...

With doors you can glitch the camera through them using the look button, when you try this it's just a black void behind it.

I took a few screen shots with my DV video capturing device:

The wall which appears after pushing the block away.

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i48/karri2/tombsecret-02.jpg
You cannot see through the wall, like you can see through the block on the left. It it would be a door, you should see through it as easily as through the block.

GRRR!!! Die wall, DIE!!!

This isn't an invisible wall, you can see a rock texture on it.

This is what it looks like on a PC:

tr1cstns.wmv (http://jeffareid.net/tr/tr1cstns.wmv)

Any luck trying to sideflip through the seam between the buggy wall and the side farthest from the moved block?

What happens if you press action while Lara is standing at that buggy wall?

Karri
03-09-06, 15:05
No luck. It's a regular wall. Nothing happens if I press action in front of it.
I've tried everything, I think.

The only way to get to the bottom of this is to ask the people who made it.

I have a strong feeling it really doesn't exist.

How did you record this? I'd just like to know a good desktop video capturing program, or whatever you were using.

How did you record this? I'd just like to know a good desktop video capturing program, or whatever you were using. I normally use fraps (http://www.fraps.com) for video capture. I occasionally use hypercam (http://www.hypercam.com), but mostly to capture videos that you can't normally download, since hypercam is just a desktop capture program (but it can record a variable number of frames per second, and you can specify the region to capture).

After I have an AVI file, I convert it to a WMV file using Windows Movie Maker or Adobe Premiere if something special is needed. Adobe can merge multiple video streams into a single file, but it's expensive and most people don't do this. Here are 3 examples, a quad view and 2 dual view video:

nrwsvp.wmv (http://jeffareid.net/nr2003/nrwsvp.wmv)

rfrf1tgp.wmv (http://jeffareid.net/rfr/rfrf1tgp.wmv)

n4kpcl.wmv (http://jeffareid.net/nfs4/n4kpcl.wmv)

If you go to my main page, I have a lot of racing game videos and some extreme radio control videos.

This must only be in the PAL version. I was playing through today on the Saturn, and was able to access it just like on PSX. I am not sure why there is a wall in your version.
