Hey everyone. I've not only never played this game before, but believe it or not, I've never played ANY Tomb Raider game before. Don't ask me why, just never owned a Playstation, and only recently have started getting more into PC gaming. Always have wanted to get into this series though. Anyway, just happened to see that Amazon is selling the first three Tomb Raider PC games together for only $10, so figured I might as well order it. Though I've heard it's not so simple to set up the first game with Windows XP, but hopefully I can get it running!
So, any tips for a newbie playing this for the first time? What's the game like, how difficult is it etc? Is it possible to use a gamepad to play? I hate trying to play games on the keyboard.
Well anyway, I'm sure I'll be back after I get the game and start playing, I'll let you all know what I think of it and how it's going!
P.S. Here's the amazon link, if anyone needs a copy of the first three games. I saw a couple threads asking where you can get them, you never know how long they'll have them for.

Welcome!:D
You'll love it:D
I just recently completed it after my long await for getting DGvoodoo working! and I was so satisfied, it was worth the wait for me, you wont be disappointed;)
Good luck!:)
I think you need a specific and a very old gamepad. I couldn't get my USB Logitech Dual Shock work with it, but in Tomb Raider II it worked just fine.

The way round that is to dld and install Joy To Key. That allows you to use any gamepad ;).
Advice? hmmm... well, don't rush through! There is a lot of hidden stuff to find, so exploring is quite worthwhile and very satisfying. Dld and use DGVoodoo - TR1 original graphics are looking a bit clunky now (altohugh they were amazing at ther time!) but DGVoodoo really sorts that out. Also - because you're playing on the PC, save as often as you can!
TR1 isn't the hardest in the series, but at the same time, it isn't an easy game - you will have to use the old noggin more than once to figure things out! It also has some of the best, most atmospheric music and set pieces in it that you'll ever experience in a game, along with some of the most terrifiying enemies... ;).
You'll have loads of fun - Promise! ;)
You should have no problems getting all the games to run.
TR1 Make sure you check the TR1 FAQ (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/faq/tr1.html).
TR2 You simply need to right click on the game executable (or it's shortcut), select Properties, click on the Compatibility tab, tick the box that says Run this program in Compatibility mode for: and select Windows 98/Windows ME in the drop down box. Click Apply and OK and you're good to go.
TR3 you should have no trouble with, but if you do encounter any problems, you can read the TR3 FAQ (http://www.tombraiderhub.com/faq/tr3.html).
As to gamepads, they can be used, usually with no problems. TR1 will need the use of the already mentioned JoyToKey. You can download that by clicking Here (http://neteru.tombraiderforums.com/files/jtk379en.zip). Instructions for it's configuration can be found Here (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=50243).
Welcome to the forum.

Yep! I use Joy to Key too, you need a *-insert game controller type-* to pc connecting lead, but it's easy to set up and I love playing TR games on PS controller.
Have fun :D

Yay, my games came in the mail today! Alright, so I'm about to try to install the first game. Just a quick question. I've read through the faq on tombraiderchronicles and I'm wondering is there much difference between installing the game with dgvoodoo or with glidos? Is glidos worth the extra ten bucks or is dgvoodoo sufficient?
;) The TR games are the best, but I think there better played on a Play Station. I only manage to get a PS1 so far, so I had to completed the Angle of Darkness on a PC, I used a Microsoft sidewinder pad which I happy with until, I started playing TR Legend, I dont think there is a view button you can program to the pad, so when you want to look around you have to go to the mouse:mad: .The best pad is proberly a PS pad I am sure that would let you look around.
