View Full Version : Tomb Raider Glitches.
Has anyone found any major glitches in TR? Here's what I've found so far, baering in mind this is the Saturn version, I've played the PS and PC version throughout and they do not work on these:
Lost Valley and The Cistern.
I'll explain the Lost Valley first; head straight to the valley section with the cogs without saving the game. Collect at least one cog and save the game at any save point. Load the game straigh away and return to where the cog you collected was, it should reappear! Try collecting all three, saving and loading, then collecting another three, etc and you can end up with up to 27 cogs! This proccess works with the Cistern but with the Silver and Gold keys.
Pier's appearance in the Cistern.
I'll try my best to describe the correct location now; you are just about to collect a silver key, you are in a room with a pool at the centre and step-like blocks going up the left hand side of the pool. In here you have to climb to the top of the room to find a switch that opens the door to let Lara out and collect the silver key in the meantime. Once you have done this Pier will be there shooting away. Don't bother shooting back, just collect the key and head straight to the room to raise the water level, then return to where you just collected the key. This time you will be swimming there. Pier is still there! he's walking around under water!
Tomb of Qualopec.
Once you have collected the first and second secret head back to the puzzle with the two tall blocks you have to move by pulling two switches (it has the symbol of a bird creature above the entrance and on the blocks). Now, I haven't tried this for ages but I believe this is what you need to do; run past the switch and into the corridor which takes you to where the first block was. Hold walk and step out into thin air, Lara will carry on walking as if the block is still there but it's clearly in the centre of the room where you left it! Run over to the block and Lara will pass through it.
I never had any glitches on the Playstation, but I've encountered a few on PC.
Mainly enemies being static, like they've not been triggered. They just stand there. Makes for cool screenshots! :D
Cool, I think I was only aware of the first one.
I think maybe I've managed to do the Pierre trick too, but that must've been a long long time ago.
Same here, I think the PS version is the most stable! it certainly is more generous with the amount of save icons than the Saturn.
Only glitch I remember on the PC version was when a friend was in the Colesseum, it was on the part where you use the key to drop into the water and swim to the end of the level. If you imagine that behind you, so that you are facing the main colesseum, he ran and jumped to the right onto the edge of the colesseum and found a peice of the Scion with a pair of magnums! I didn't believe it, until I noticed while helping him on Palace Midas he had two peices of the Scion!

WOW, that's odd. :p Never heard of that.
Was one of those glitches that couldn't be repeated if we tried! :hea: oh well.
Other glitches on the Saturn compared to the others include textures discolouring, sound cutting out in later levels (like Lara not making a sound when you use a medi pack), the first-aid crosses on the medi packs being brown rather than red. The development of the Saturn version was definately rushed, no doubt about that.
Some more Saturn glitches:
The Mould
- Sometimes when you go to the menu and return to the game, the textures may change color, usually to white or gray (is that the discoloring bug you where talking about Decoop?). Me and my friends call it "The Mould" :P
Flying buggers
- Get rid of the flying creatures in Sanctuary of the Scion or Great Pyramid as fast as possible. Because if they push you in a corner or maybe even just touch you, the game might freeze.
Monster grab
- Not sure if you can do this in other versions, but this a really cool trick. Sometimes it works, sometimes it won't. Start the Great Pyramid level. Now press back and hang on to the edge. When the big monster comes near you, start moving left or right while still hanging on while the beast is clawing you. Move like four times sideways, then drop down, and just before Lara is about to hit the lava, she should teleport back to the top because somehow the monster managed to grab you. :D And then you die of course. But it's worth dying :D Also, if you start the level and go near to a wall and let the monster grab you, the game will freeze if he throws you inside that wall :D
Floating over a trap
- This one I think works in every version. Go to City of Vilcabamba, go through the corridor of swinging axes, pull the switch that opens the trap under your feet, but instead of letting go of the action button, keep pushing it until Lara will pull the switch again, closing the trap while standing in the air :D And then she falls down.
Thank You - I
When Lara and Larson are speaking after Tomb of Qualopec, the thing ends before Lara ends her sentence.
I think she is supposed to say "Thank you - I will", but instead we hear "Thank you - I.." or sometimes just "Thank you".
The locks fear of guns
This should work on all platforms. Put a key in any lock, followed by taking your guns out immediately after. The door stays closed. But if you now go near the lock without holding your guns, the door will then open. This is a useful glitch actually in St. Francis Folly when you have to put all the four keys to the locks to open the final door. Don't let any of the bars open, then put your guns away and then run past all the four locks. You will save some time because now you don't have to watch all the bars open one by one.
Weird sphinx
Go to Sanctuary of the Scion, go to the huge room under the sphinx which has two sphinx's in it and is filled with water. Go to the top of the room where you will find a save point and the flying red enemy. Kill the enemy and fall down on to the sphinx's head. Grab on to the edge of the head. Now you should be half inside the sphinx's face. Let go. Lara will now fall inside the face and then re-appear on top of the head.
That's right, like in The Cistern it looks like a yellow haze and in Atlantis like a lime green. The only way to fix it is to access the inventory then return to the game.
I pretty much think I'm useless at "reproducing" Glitches from text-only descriptions.
Any screenshots for some of the mentioned glitches? (Not of them glitches themselves, but the locations)
Would really appreciate it!
I managed to get Lara stuck in the wall above one of the waterfalls in the Lost Valley level. Iwas tring to see if I could jump to one of the smaller cracks (and shimmy), but she ended up landing on the ledge, melded into the stone.
As my mate Andy said to me:'I don't think you were supposed to try to do that....'

I'll try, maybe tomorrow when I have time. First I need to play the game from start to finish. I don't have a Tomb Raider save file on Saturn's memory card atm so...

....Mainly enemies being static, like they've not been triggered. They just stand there. Makes for cool screenshots! :D
if you use the fly cheat or the positon editor in TR1, you can easily bypass some of the trigger points that operate the enemies, and as you say, you find the enemies static, or frozen in time :D
Just found another one! On the Saturn again....
City of Kahmoon.
Here's a shot of Lara which I managed to find on Google above the room:
http://www.traider.pl/chris45/TR-Sekrety/TR-1%20Sekrety/10_City%20of%20Khamoon/City%20of%20Khamoon_2.jpg
Notice the trap doors you climb through are open? I managed to climb through them closed, saving loads of time, energy and ammo rather than fighting that Mummy!

Yes, that is a nice technique, to go through the trap doors. But I always want to finish the levels kinda "perfectly" so I just have to go and turn that switch :D So when I turn that block away from the entrance and the mummy activates, I jump directly backwards. I land on the floor where I was previously and shoot the mummy from there.
It is absolutely insane to go and fight that mummy in the same room, cause he always manages to push me through the gates and then it's a long way to get back there...
EDIT: Actually, there is no mummy on the PC version.. so this was on Saturn.

Actually, one time, instead of going into the room with the switch to open those trap doors, I had come up on the wrong side and pulled the block over towards me. I jumped on top and the trap doors just opened by themselves.
edit: this being the PC version
More City of Khamoon glitches:
1. Secret #3 is there (shotgun shells in an alcove behind a cat statue) but there is no sound to signify you've discovered a secret nor does it register on the statistics at the end of the level.
2. After collecting secret #3 head over the bridge and into the narrow green corridor which snakes a round a bit. When you emerge in the next room with the Mummy there is a trap door in the top corner which lets a pile of rubble into the room when you pull a switch further in the level, thus enabling access to the end of the level. On several occassions I have found the rubble in the room already! The trap door is closed and, like in the first trap door glitch, you can jump and pass straight through it.
I cant remember encountering any glitches at all, i have the ps1 version.
I do remember the face glitch on the sphinx, it had me laughing every time I did it! Look, I'm falling! No I'm not! I'm back on the sphinx head! LOL!!!
I remember finding out about the corner bug and going every place that was too high for lara to go to! That was cool seeing things from places we weren't supposed to go!
My contribution to this old but great thread (Maybe I shouldn't have ressurected this but it's very interesting one)
Fire Backwards
Find a long drop, such as the one at the beginning of the Great Pyramid. Do a
dive off it with your guns drawn and fire as you fall. The bullets will hit
the wall as if Lara was falling normally, but since she's diving this means she
must be firing backwards.
I got another one glitch in City of Khamoon (I play on PC) There was a moment when Lara need to pull the switch to open the trap door. But trap-door opened without pulling the switch when Lara just approached there

Chalmers is great, I'm glad to see an update. But nobody finds everything, so I'd like to add a few things:
3.4 Swan Dive
--------------
"Hold Walk while doing a forward jump (standing or running). It has very little
use other than saving time when swimming to the bottom of deep pools. Lara can only survive very short drops when diving."
Aurimas & I posted threads about 6 weeks ago that discuss what I call the dive bug (his discovery). If Lara dives to the base of a wall, she may survive with no damage, even if the drop is 5 or 6 squares. Works in TR1 - 4 (5?).
If you hit the ceiling, Lara rolls after a dive as high as 4 squares
3.5 Handstand
--------------
"Hold Walk while pulling up after grabbing a ledge. It has no purpose
whatsoever other than looking cool."
I recall a place (possibly in TRUB) where Lara pulls up to a platform of spikes, and takes damage unless she does a handstand. It's like the token situation to make the move useful.
4.4 The Fence Bug
------------------
In some other TR's you can jump through fences, maybe in TR1.

Im not really sure if they count but;
In Lost Valley, if you go down the waterfall at the wrong angle you get stuck at the top, and if you try and jump down, you just hit your head and get stuck again.
And in the first level, right before the secret, where Lara looks up..(urgh i hope you get where I mean)
theres a pillar behind, if you jump into it, you end up in a black space with a weird looking symbol in the corner.
Has anyone found any major glitches in TR? Here's what I've found so far, baering in mind this is the Saturn version, I've played the PS and PC version throughout and they do not work on these:

Run over to the block and Lara will pass through it.
Cool, I'll have to try these glitches later, when I set up my PS1.
There's quite a number of invisible things in this game, trying to jump over a broken pillar, soaring over it and suddenly smacking into nothingness... the main one is in St Frances Folly. Argh.
I don't come here very often so I apologize if this is already well known.
In Unfinished Business' Temple of the Cat level there's a secret room with timed door and movable blocks inside. Normally one enters the room and moves the blocks around inside it. Things are cramped in there. However the blocks can also be moved out of the room into the hallway which really opens up the secret room. It also can expose a glitch or two. Here's the deal.
Get inside the secret room and move a block up to the door. Then throw the switch to open the door and quickly push the block out the door, keeping Action pressed as the door closes (or Lara will loose her stance and she'll be stuck inside). Push the block again (the view goes wonky) and release. Lara will be back inside but the block will be in the hallway. Beware, if Lara pushes a third time or pulls the block rather than pushes, she'll end up in a strange Tomb Raider limbo and you must restart. Once the block is outside, open the door again to move it further.
I don't know if anybody else had this glitch...but when I stepped on Midas' hand in the palace, Lara wouldnt turn to gold until after she stepped off...anybody else have this?

Help us out, Tidus. What machine were you using? How did you get in the hand? Etc.

It was the PS version, and I got on the hand normally. :o..I've played the game about 4 times completely through now, and it's only happened twice. I'm not sure why it happened and why it only happened twice...but it was kind of interesting to watch her walk up and then start turning into gold.

Thanks. Interesting, if mysterious.

There is a similar situation in TR2, one of the Maria Doria levels (probably the Deck) when we jump to an alcove with glasses on the floor, I think it's the green dragon secret.
Same glitch in Tomb of Qualopec. A pushy cube next to a collapsing tile, if Lara grabs it she will stay hanging in the air until you let go ctrl.

There is an untriggerable bat in the Colosseum, in the first corner room, behind it is the corridor with the boulder. When we enter the room two bats attack, but there is a 3rd one hanging from the ceiling, I couldn't find a way to trigger it. If that bat worked, it would have been the 27th kill of the level.

Hey everybody. I'm playing Tomb Raider Challenge on my PC and encountered a bug in Atlantis (This was the right place for me to post Bugs right?).
In Atlantis, the room with the fleshy, uneven bridge, kill the mutant that comes out of the bridge. Then go left and trigger the mutant. Put your guns down and take a running jump back to the diagonal ledge and Lara will magically burn even though you have not landed on Lava
