View Full Version : How to get better image quality with Geforce2 card?
The first time I played TR1, I was not satisfied with the image quality, until I bought myself a 3D accelerator which had a PowerVR-chip. After installing the PowerVR-patch I suddenly got great images, smooth textures...just perfect!!! Probably the 3Dfx patches also gave this result on Voodoo cards...
Anyway. Times change, graphics cards get better, and so I bought a Geforce2 Ultra 64Mb card (800 US$ at the time!).
Result: This great graphics-card kicks TR1 image quality back to the time I did not have any 3D card....
Does anybody have ANY idea how get my smooth graphics back on my Geforce2? Of course all patches available don't work since they are specifically written for PowerVR, 3Dfx, ATI..
Any other (unofficial) "patches" that are available

Hello Peter, welcome aboard. This is very interesting info and something we certainly never considered trying. I'll let you know the outcome.
I can hardly wait.....
You can mail me direct if you want..
It shouldn't be that difficult to e.g. create a D3D patch.....after all it has been done before on many other games (e.g. MotoRacer)
Thanks for 'picking this up'!

If somebody, anybody, anywhere, comes up with a DirectX patch, I will bow down and give worship. I cannot tell you how much that would mean to me. I've tried everything- all the patches, dos drivers, even a playstation emulator (!!!) but I am still forced to watch the graphics I once followed like a lost sheep :D. And I know that loads of other people will feel the same way. ;)
Yesterday I did some internet-digging, and came up with a program called "Glidos" which enables you to run TR1 & UB in a semi-OpenGL environment, using the official 3Dfx patches from Eidos (simply copy them over the original).
You can start either TR1 or UB from within the Glidos program, and it enables you to select window/full-screen. Up to a resolution of 1024x768.
Some minor disadvantages:
The inventory screen is corrupted
The frame-rate is rather slow (about 30FPS) but maybe I'll have to play with some more advanced display settings.
But the game itself works great.
So, go to: www.glidos.net (http://www.glidos.net) and downloaded the latest release.
This doesn't mean I'm fully satisfied. I still would like to see an official solution from Eidos....

Oh, most merciful Paul Gardiner, I am not worthy :D
Woohoo! This is the answer. Just downloaded it and loving it already. Thankyou!
Okay, so there are glitches (loading sprites for the inventory etc.) but the framerate was fine for me, and it loks great in-game. Get it! Get it now! :D
