What are your favourite things to do in Oblivion? :D

I enjoy

-running across the lakes in my water walking boots

-summoning some creature, then attacking it until it attacks me, and watching as the guards battle with it!

-saving my game, then just going on a crazy killing spree killing everyone in a town.

-using the 'shock' spell, it's just cool!

I Think (I THINK) I just finished this game today!!! Well the main quest anyway :D (Now I'm going back up to the top to read you Questions :D )

Fave thing: FREEEDOM!!!

Fave things to do:

Going for a stroll anywhere, hanging out in Cheydinhal and Chorrol, inventing new potent spells, filling my black soul gems :mis:

Great spell: Paralyse + Damage / drain health for as many seconds as you can afford - Necromancers hate it! I ran through a cave dishing out my Avada Kedavra spells :jmp: Muahahaha :D

(In Morrowind it was great, if you cheated and modded yourself up so you had almighty spells and put god mode on, you felt invincible - yet you really felt the cliche Dark Lord when you cast one of your fatal spells hoping to obliterate your enemy and they managed to reflect it onto you! Even with god mode on you'd die!! I Loved that! )

A cool glitch in Oblivion for me was on a mission where I had to kill a rogue trader. I met him upstairs in a pub, where he saw me, tried to run for it, got wedged between a chair and a banister- twitched, struggled and then I assume his neck broke because there was a loud SNAP and he groaned and fell to the floor dead! - Hey, I didn't even have to touch him!!

FAVE GUILD - The Dark Brotherhood. Damn I love it!!! It's like Star Wars in so many ways, initiated into the Sith as soon as you join it, man it's ace :jmp:

Exploring mountain tops, especially in Jehrall Mountains. I just love going where noone has gone before :D
Buying equipement for my house. And then another house. And another. :D
Well... About those moments. The most sad moment was, when I found out that (SPOILER WARNING) Trebonius killed himself for nothing. The king of worms was nothing compared to me. It's strange, but I can't recall any really happy moments in the game. The moment I was angry the most is when I was offered a place within the Dark Brotherhood. I declined. The most violent way possible. And the places that left in me the impression? Pale Pass, for example. A sad place with a sad story... I don't know. Is it just me or is Oblivion mostly a game with sad mood?

I loved going through the guy's dream tasks, the puzzles are so much fun. Tomb Raider should look to this game for ideas :jmp:

Favourite quests: Dark Brotherhood spoilers!! Don't read unless you've completed the guild!!!
The purification of the Dark Brotherhood -that was totally Anakin in the Jedi Temple. Lucien Lechance- Best Character in the whole game imo :D Then there was the whole discover the traitor plot in the DB which was ace, finding that psychopath's basement with "Mother's head", and then Lucien being hung drawn and quatered :( That upset me, I thought "NOOO!!! I'll avenge you dark master!!" :D And I did, ooh that was fun.

Mage guild quests were fun. Mostly. Or going into Malcar Camoran's paradise (or what was his name, I don't remember someone so unimportant ;):D ). Searching for stolen painting in Chorrol castle. Searching for Pale Pass. And so on.
Mattster: Which dream quest was is? The one for mage guild or the daedric one?

There's a daedric artifact called the Staff of Corruption (or something like that) which clones the target. It's wicked just to drive people mad, they see a clone of themselves and go insane, attacking themselves. The clone disappears after 30 secs or so, but if the clone kills the real one...

@james: it was for bravil or leyawin mages guild, some guy was stuck in a dream state. (I actually attacked him when he was sleeping, and he woke up, killed me then went back to sleep!!)


@rivendell: Nice shots!! Love the Poo Bear! You should download the mod that makes the HUD smaller (you can see it in some of my screens) makes the screen much nicer.

it's Cheydinhal Pet Shop :D, I wanted a dog that looked like my real dog, but their 'labradores' look like no labradore I've ever seen.



Anyway you can get:

a panda
various types of bears
various types of labs
huskies
imps
a skeleton
a mudcrab
a boar
(I forgot a couple)

they each have unique features, with the labs you can take them into a forest and ask it to hunt Deer, it will then pursue one and you can pretend you are with the Cyrodil Countryside Alliance :o :p :D

I sold the pet guide so I forget what my new bear can do :o but as it levels up it will grow into a full sized grizzly :D

^ Cliffracer.They made annoying noises, evaded attacks and followed you everywhere pecking at your head. A few whacks with a powerful sword or spear sorted them out though :D

*embarrassed giggle* I don't think I did - I tended just to have the main game, Bloodmoon and Tribunal and some mods hubby knocked up. I've never actually finished the whole game - I spent about 5 months just nicking stuff and exploring. In the end, I was so busy nicking stuff and exploring, I forgot what I was supposed to be doing!!

hehe I'm not often trapped by those devices. My character is a sneaker archer/ conjurer. So I'm sneaking carefully with life detection on. It's fun to drag bodies onto the spring trap and watching them fly :D I did get a fright once when I stood on a pressure pad, and then the walls around me slid down - revealing 4 ghosts! :(

I think the game needs a little more gore though, we should be able to take limbs off. A bit unbelievable seeing a body fly against spikes, then come down with not a bruise.

You're right about the rats! Exact same size! And they always give me a disease called 'shakes' I have no idea what this does but it sounds foul. To get rid of this I go to a chapel, and pray to Dibella. I don't know what is special about Dibella but when I pray to her I get the message 'Dibella Loves You' and then I am healed! None of the other 8 gods like me :(

It is not my genre (Role Playing) but i wanted to see how it really looks!

well RPGs are not my favourite genre either. I have played 2 final fantasy games, but I dont like the ultra complex level up system.

To be honest, I bought it because I like the graphics and free exploration, not for the story.

From what I've read on oblivion forums, Oblivion is a dumbed down version made for the masses, the other elder scrolls games were more RPG, less action.

Only takes a little while to learn the menus, and then you are off on action packed quests! Think GTA San Andreas, but set in the year 1100 AD.

I'm learning to appreciate the RPG side of the game more however, and I can see why some fans of this series are disappointed. There isnt much dialogue to get lost in. It's been designed so you can play it like an action game, the RPG elements are basically optional - reading books with stories from Cyrodil's history etc.


(edit: you probably are aware, but the graphics can look much better than my PC is capable of producing, I have 1Gb RAM, and a raedon X800 XL card. I can play at 1280x1024 but the framerate is unplayable, so now I play at 800x600. I also downloaded some mods that improve framerate without big reductions in graphical quality and now I average 20FPS in wilderness areas, but about 30-60 in buildings/caves etc)

Well then, ok, i have the GOTY edition of Morrowind. That game made me desperate with trying to get intelligent life into 'me-and-role-playing-game'. Problem: so incredibly much text!!! So many options! I drew my hair out.

But i liked roaming around through the environment though, kill a few innocent people, get thrown into jail, etc... :(

I have that one too. It is indeed a very complex game. But I got used to it and in time, I got to like it. The feeling that a world lives around you is a great one. If you try, you may get used to it too, Joseph. (and without killing innocent people - just wait until you get attacked, or provoke them by taunting them into attacking you, if you must kill them. Or at least make sure noone sees you ;) :D )

Very complex. I am limited to play because of my limited english. . Just as in Vampires the Masquerade: Bloodlines i buy the game because it's so promising, then try and try but keep missing the clues just because it is not my motherslanguage! :hea:

It's not mine as well. Isn't there a translation into Dutch for Morrowind? Since there is one translation into Czech, I guess there could one translation into Dutch to be found as well.

No!! The copies sold here, have a box with Dutch text on it, no printed manual in it (the english version on the cd) and the game itself is 100% the UK version. In english! High-class literature-language.

Come on, that way i can't play in a natural way!.. A game works best when it sets your intuitive power moving, without any forcing...
That is why Tomb Raider and FPS games (very minimal use of spoke/written language) are so ultranational! Understanding via the imagery!

Seen it also. I found it... Well, pointless. There's so much to see, especially in the main quest in Morrowind. Completing the main quest within 15 minutes. Call it a waste of a challenge. :D

James- you've completed Oblivion from what I read a few pages back?
Does the main quest end after That battle which afterwards you're told you'll get the Imperial dragon armor or something? Does it end then, or is there anymore after you get the armour? Don't say what there is, just if it ends there or not :D

Rivendell: You read right. I'm sorry to dissapoint you, but so far nothing new has happenned in the main quest line. Maybe I'm just doing something wrong, but I'm unable to even reach Chancelor Ocato. (Truth to be said, I was afraid that they were about to name Taraniel the new Empress, but luckily I have so far been wrong :D )

I also wish you could stand right on top of the Imperial Tower, proclaim yourself Dark Lord, don your evil armor and jump off it! But the highest point of the tower is where the elder scroll and the blind monks are isn't it?

i HATE the main quest in oblivion its soooooooo boring,, but the island exploring is amazing, thats what i like about oblivion,, exploring around

The main quest is ace! Well it is once you first meet Mankar Cameran, it all starts there pretty much :D

But the freedom, exploring and total unlinearness of the game is fantastic.

One of my fave things to do is take the Adoring Fan up into the mountains where there's a Necromancer's altar outside a cavern. At the right time there's a light from the stars which shines on the altar. It's ace how Adoring Fan keeps coming back - so he's a very good supplier for the contents of Black Soul Gems :mis:

Fiend! I don't know what I got rid of, I think it was a type of weapon I never use so I wasn't too miffed.
BSG's are much cheaper and more handy to recharge your magic weapons than going to a shop ;)

For an archmage, that isn't really a problem. Also, I use a nonmagical weapon and armor of constant effects, so that doesn't really bother me. Also, I would never take a soul from a dying being to prolong it's suffering in a state between life and death in the soul gem ;)

Well I guess my character just craves power :D I'll kill anyone and anything, so long as it's not a dog, deer, horse or unicorn. If I see anyone mistreating those creatures, then I kill them. I guess those animals are my weakness, shucks -some dark lord I'd make ;)

I consider my character as a an attempt to a beacon of light (with many flaws, that is :) No saint here :D ) I won't kill unless I'm attacked. But then, don't try to stand on the fun end of my sword :mis: So I guess I'd be as the knight of light as you'd be a dark lord :D

But I was sent to jail a couple of times when I had to clear Skingrad of Vampire Hunters. I managed to kill a couple of them stealthly, but there is a bug in my companion mod Valeria, when she sees me kill people she calls for the guard >.< so it goes something like this

me: Valeria, go and stand over there and face the wall

valeria: You arn't going to kill someone are you?

me: -.- go!

valeria: what was that sound...I heard an arrow fly, then a scream, then a thud?

me: just the wind ^.^

I think the gravity is too low yes. When you shoot someone and they go flying back, the physics are fine but they fall too slowly.

How do you get the adoring fan btw? And how did that guy have 10 of them? :D

Please dont give me any spoilers, but are there any gigantic monsters in Oblivion? I'm a little disappointed at not seeing any dragons or other huge beasts. Biggest I've seen was a troll, and that was only about 8 feet tall :(

There's no giants, although late on the the main quest you do see some BIG things, but it's not for very long.

I think there's a console command: if you raise the console, select someone and type

Female Nord and she is a Knight

I keep trying to fix her appearence to make her look very young blonde and lovely, but its hard to achieve this in oblivion, the women have very masculine bodies :( You can see how she is changing in the screenshots, I'm using the console command 'setracemenu' to change it even after I begin the game.

I just found the new spell guy, im quite poor so I just bought force push and call lightening :D

What I did was use my paralysing staff I got from the mages guild, that renders them immobile for 5 seconds, all the while lightening is striking down from above :jmp:

Force push is a bit strange, sometimes it works and looks really cool but other times they just sort of trip up, I think I might have been casting it on their feet if that makes a difference :o

Nice screens btw! That flame rock creature is huuugeeee O.O

You sure? The game was well made so there isnt a next gen current gen unfairness as there is with TRL. By default I can't run Next Gen in TRL, but when I play oblivion it often looks better than TRL next gen!!!

With force push they'll fall over if they resist the spell, but get knocked flying backwards if they dont :D

And the spell "Grasping earth" works a treat for sticking them to the spot, like paralyse - but don't get too close as they can still hit you.

Dance is one of my fave spells - it's so random, it just makes anyone in range of the spell dance uncontrollably ! :vlol:

I did the Mehrunes Razor mission yesterday, That was fun. And the dagger is brilliant! There's a chance it'll kill anything in One hit. If it does a message pops up like "Mehrunes razor claims this soul" or something, and they just collapse before your eyes !

I have spoken with each suspect, and I have found the painting in a small room which is evidence, now the game tells me I must find more evidence before I can accuse properly. I found an 'Average Lock' chest in the dungeons which is called 'Evidence' but when I unlocked it nothing was inside! A bug?

I suspect the culprit is Chanel (this name confuses me a lot) the woman with a big afro. She is a painter, and I suspect she damaged the original by mistake, and tried to paint over it herself. She makes a suspicious comment about the difficulty of painting a man's face, and I found a paint brush on her person! The swine!

Anyway can someone give me a clue as to where I might find the next evidence? I think I have looked everywhere and now I'm bored of searching.

My PC fails on both Minimal and Recommended requirements - no graphics card (only the lousy chip it came with) and nowhere near the required RAM. I'll have to stick with Morrowind. :o

But the screenies are still a feast for the eyes, I love them. :D

@ampersand: I can empathise, I got the PC I have now two years ago, but before that I couldnt play any of the new games >.< . And now one year on my PC is already a bit out of date >.< I probably won't be able to play any new games in a year. This is the advantage consoles have I guess!

Chorell Mage's Guild: I summoned a skeleton, made it attack me and then my guild allies ran to help me, but of course they hit each other by mistake and started battling, and then the guards came but the mage's were having none of it and quickly dispatched him!

They should put her in a small camp (like the bandit camps) on the outskirts of Chorrol, so whenever you ride to Chorrol you see her looking sad and it makes you feel very guilty! :D

Yeah, Hackdirt scares me too - I'd not been there since doing a mission there which I got in Chorrol..

It was almost deserted when I went there today, all dark, and I found two people who ran towards a door as soon as I spotted them and completely vanished. Then I swear I heard some whispers outside like "Pssst!!" .. I eventually managed to follow one of the fleeing couple, who was legging it into the woods on the mountainside - he managed to lead me into a small ravenous group of those mad cultists..

Not going there again!

I think it would be so cool if they just used british accents for the game. I find it strange having american voices in this setting :( I think Imperial City should be English, Chorrol area could be scottish, leyawin welsh, and Anvil irish :jmp:

I got the game yesterday! There are some frame-rate and graphical issues as can be expected... but it works reasonably well. I had to turn most stuff down, so I'm not able to appreciate it's full quality... but it's still great!

Morrowind is great Rika :tmb: The main quest is much longer than Oblivion's, and the subquests take longer too - getting to Archmage level in Morrowind is a lot more challenging than in Oblivion. And the mods!! :cln: Thousands of great ones!
Can't wait til there's some huge Oblivion ones out - Ocean mod for example *salivates*

I got the game a few days ago, and I ****ing love it!! :D:D:D Its probably one of the best games I have ever played and I am really adicted to it.
