Apparently, that guy (who is around 14 or 15) got tormented for this advert, and attempted to commit suicide. That was the rumour circulating around - it was apparently on the news.
Probably utter bollocks - it's a rumour that spread across UK schools (that's where I heard it lol)...
Read this Urban Legend site, it's rather amusing what rumours have been spread about the 'Frosties Kid'...

Twiin
23-08-06, 16:16
Yeah, I knew it was a load of rubbish, but I just thought I'd bring it to everyone's attention to show hpow easily rumours can spread! It's odd how it has spread across schools in the UK, quite amazing actually!

Frosties?? lol funny how you Brits call them that. They're "Frosted Flakes" here in the states.

There are many products which both the UK and the US have the same.
Such as 'walkers' crisps... with i think in america there called 'lays'.

Lonely Istari
23-08-06, 16:31
Yes, it is Lay's Potato Chips here in the US.

http://www.michigancoffeeservice.com/images/Coffee/850.gif
just looked up yours to see the difference ;)
http://www.jakehowlett.com/tuckshop/wrappers/snacks/crisps/walkers-pc.jpg

That's so interesting! This kind of cultural thing always interests me! Very cool!

tha_mattster
23-08-06, 16:32
'lays' sounds like a condition old people get :o

America is cursed with bad titles, 'Harry Potter and Some Guys Stone' 'Tomb Raider: Girl with Guns' etc etc

tr_mitch
23-08-06, 16:33
And walkers in the Uk.
It is pretty fascinating and what products are the same, yet renamed for certain countries.

Twiin
23-08-06, 16:35
Oh my, 'lay's'? That's awful - I do feel sorry for you! 'Walker's' sounds much better...
Yes, it's 'Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone' instead of 'Philosopher's Stone' which is the correct term!
Oh, and the game 'Fahrenheit' had to be changed to 'Indigo Prophecy' in American so they wouldn't confuse it with 'Fahrenheit 9/11'

Lonely Istari
23-08-06, 16:37

funny how I live in America and have never heard these titles in such a fashion... :whi:

Lay's are the crisps also in european countries.... It seems that only the UK has a different name for them.

jarhead
23-08-06, 16:40
thats cause were special, the british lot.

why call them lays though?? to me thats a prettu weird name for crisps, i know wlakers isnt the best but lays

It's not Lays... it's Lay's. It has posession. Perhaps it's the name of a person?

Neteru
23-08-06, 16:43
I was annoyed when our Marathon was renamed to the American name of Snickers. http://neteru.tombraiderforums.com/images/yuck.gif

And I found it stupid when Jif was renamed to the European name of Cif.

Twiin
23-08-06, 16:43
Well, Walker's is possession, too... but if they're the same thing, then...?

tr_mitch
23-08-06, 16:45
And I found it stupid when Jif was renamed to the European name of Cif.

If i remember correctly, Many people could not correctly say 'Jif' which is stupid explanation- Yeah we'll change the name of it so people can say it properly.

OT. Its Thundering. :o

Lonely Istari
23-08-06, 16:46
Maybe there are different owners for the different countries? lol I don't know...

K.J
23-08-06, 16:48
Oh, and the game 'Fahrenheit' had to be changed to 'Indigo Prophecy' in American so they wouldn't confuse it with 'Fahrenheit 9/11'

Not only the name. Since some americans are so sensitive to nudity they had to reomove a scene from the game as well:vlol:

Neteru
23-08-06, 16:48
what's the original advert about :confused:It's an incredibly annoying advert that you just can't bear to see early on the morning, when you've barely woken and it's shown to you innumerable times.

Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRl0XF229IY) is the original advert in all it's horrid 'glory'.

23-08-06, 16:50

23-08-06, 16:51
I think when people get use to hearing a certain title for a long time they get used to it... I just have no idea why they change titles... its really wierd...

Oh, and the game 'Fahrenheit' had to be changed to 'Indigo Prophecy' in American so they wouldn't confuse it with 'Fahrenheit 9/11'

Hmm when i first heard of the game i thought it was a game about firefighters :p

Lonely Istari
23-08-06, 16:57
I know all about those! why do they repeat only the most annoying commercials over and over and over? lol

Thanks for the link Net, :tmb: :wve:

why do they repeat only the most annoying commercials over and over and over? lol

Thanks for the link Net, :tmb: :wve:Hi LI :wve:

It's a form of psychological trickery. The key is to annoy the viewer such that they are consciously turned off by the advert. When that is achieved it is then easier to 'implant' if you will, the message into the subconscious, because the conscious mind isn't standing guard. So when you come to the supermarket, you suddenly find yourself thinking, Um, I'll get some 'Frosties' (or whatever).

Lonely Istari
23-08-06, 17:03
Long time no chat, Net :wve: I was reminded of you the other day when I watched monty python and the holy grail! haha

Anyway, I just watched the full bit of torture... I'm sorry for you Brits! :vlol:

The song isn't so bad, It's the acting 'which makes the song suck'... dancing about and doing crazy things with his hand, make us as the audience cringe and thinK WTF IS HE DOING?
I'd never live it down, but saying that... He's probs filthy rich now.

Grenade
23-08-06, 17:05

I think what's even more annoying about this advert is that it's your traditional Saturday morning TV fare. Only this time they're showing it at all times, every day. So there really is no escape.

Eki eki eki kapang... zooop oinnnggg :ton:PMSL :vlol: *wipes tears away from eyes* I so totally wasn't expecting that. :tmb:
