Are there any roller coaster fanatics here?

I've been meaning to plan a trip to the US to have a go on Kingda Ka (world's tallest and fastest; 450 foot tall, 0 - 128mph in approximately 3 seconds.)

What rides have other forumers experienced?

Whee! Coasters! :jmp: :jmp:

I tried a new one here in Norway some days ago, called "Speed Monster" (boring name, really). It's nothing too big, but it certainly was a more than decent rollercoaster ride! Though my favourite is still Thundercoaster. Big drops and wood beat loops and steel any day.

I thought Stealth was good! it's a mini version of Kingda Ka.

Best coaster in the UK has to be Nemesis.

This thing takes you up WAYYYY high and then drops you... kinda like a bungee jump!

Forgot to add, I bet people from the US would probably laugh when they see what rides us in the UK have! Even though we've had the first vertical drop and flying coaster.

We have height restrictions which stop the rides exceeding certain heights, such as near by tree lines.

This, the Top Thrill Dragster, was the tallest and fasted Coaster in the world when it first opened. Its home was Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio... my home state!! Sadly, I've just been informed that it has been taken down and will be replaced with a new ride. I only got to ride it once! It was sooo much fun! :(

It hasn't been around for long either, wonder why it was removed.

What was the accelleration like? Fastest I've been is 0 - 80mph in 2.3 seconds (that was Stealth). I've never broken the 100mph barier on a roller coaster before.

no it wasn't around for long. That is the sad thing. But every time I went to Cedar Point it was either shut down for the day or they would open it up and shut it down every few rides. I guess it's a good idea they took it down. However, I haven't heard anything about this on the news or seen it in print... I've just heard it through a friend who heard through a friend... so don't quote me on this ;)

It was 420 ft high and went from 0-120 in 3.8 seconds and had a 270 degree twist as it came down. Let me tell you about a thrill rush! That was an awesome ride!!

I've always loved rollercoasters. My favourite park has to be Six Flags Magic Mountain in California. It's in direct competition with Cedar Point in having 17 coasters.

Tallest to shortest: Superman the Ride, Goliath, Colossus

Left to right: X, Viper

Left to right: Deja Vu, Psyclone

Just a small sample. Can't wait to return.

And the UK has quite a few decent rides. Nothing to be ashamed of by any means :D

I love rollercoasters and thrill rides :jmp:

In 1998 I went to my local theme park (American Adventure in Derbyshire http://www.americanadventure.co.uk/), then two weeks later went on a school trip to Spain, where we went to PortAventura, then Disneyland Paris on the way home. That's three different theme parks in three different countries in two weeks! :D :D

I love Dragon Khan (PortAventura) - which has the record for the most inversions and highest single loop (or did, back in 1998 :whi:) - and Space Mountain - simply because it's so atmospheric.

EDIT: I've just been looking round and three of the best rides at American Adventure have closed! :( The park is supposed to be 're-branding itself' to be more appealing to families with younger children. Dammit! Don't eleven year olds etc like rollercoasters then?! :( Twenty-one year olds certainly do!

Was just reading on http://www.rcdb.com that Port Aventura in Spain will have the next fastest coaster in europe, accelerating to a top speed of 83mph. It will be manufactured by Intamin who are responsible for Stealth, Top Thrill Dragster and Kingda Ka.

Also something I found on Google video; the train on Stealth doesn't make it to the top of the hill and rolls back!

yeah i love theme parx, me! but i aint been to one in yonks. the thunder-looper in alton towers was well cool, but they took it down. and oblivion is cool. some rides in the US that i can remember, like the phoenix, splash mountain and the koomba. and one in spain - the dragon kahn.

but the rides dont go on long enough!!! it feels like only 5 seconds.

i love the big swings too. its such a feeling of freedom.

i love water parks too, like blizzard beach in florida. they probly have new ones since it was 10 years since i was there. cant wait to go my hols to go to some water parks!

If it lasted any longer it would be unpleasent, it is quite intense. Try taking your hands off on the launch ;)

Yes, I'll have to see if I can scan my on-ride photo to show. It takes a picture of you during the launch then another at the end of the ride when the train is entering the brake section, so you can see a "before and after" pic of yourself!

Yeah, my friend was telling me about this and some people's facial expressions must be hillarious.

I have heard of that.

I love Collosus at Thorpe Park - The fact that it's quite slow makes it much more scary! :D
