i cant play tomb raider 1 on ps2

i thought ps1 games were compatible, but my game doesnt load. it only shows up as a audio cd. is there anything i can do?

Have you tried any other copies of TR? My friend had a similar problem with other games, it was actually a fault with his laser.

yes ive tried all of them. i just got the first five games for ps1 and they all have the same problem.

You should be able to play all PSX games on a PS2, but sometimes it's jsut a little bit dodgy... that's why I have my PSone connected to get my classic TR fix!

Funny thing, I still have my old PS1 and the plug in gameshark, but TR1 won't load on it. With or without the gameshark on. So I loaded it on my PS2, but I don't have saves on a PS2 memory card. So just to try it I stuck in my old PS1 memory card, it works! I have all the levels so I can load from where ever I want. Just can't hook up the old gameshark. Don't know if anyone converted the old PS1 codes for a PS2 for TR1. :confused:

I think the memory cards are the same but in bigger space for ps2(mine is 8mb)

I found with that my TR on the PS2 wouldn't work that well with the advanced textures turned on and the disc speed set to 'fast'. Try setting these to standard in the system menu.

You have to use PSOne memory cards when saving games even on the PS2. You can't use PS2 memory cards with PSOne games.

There shouldn't be any problems playing any but a handful of fairly obscure PSOne games on the PS2. Early PS2's were occasionally inferior when used for PSOne games when compared to a real PS/PSOne. This was soon corrected in later models but I have read that the newer slimline PS2 may have trouble playing some PSOne games which the original PS2 had no trouble with.

I tested my PAL (Platinum range) version of TR1 last night in my old style PS2 (PS driver: 1.1) using both standard speed/texture smoothing and the full options too. Both worked fine, loaded fast and, BTW, looks very good on my 32" Sony widescreen CRT. I ended up playing the first two levels before being killed by a bat - the shame :-)
