Oblivion, FarCry, Half Life 2, I suppose legend to a degree -though I've not played it next gen.

Wrong. You can play Crysis on PCs of the last few years, obviously not everything on full, and it won'T look at its best, but Crytek are not stupid. They want to sell many copies so they make sure it can be played on slower PCs as well. The Turkish guy running this all said this in a recent interview.

It really depends on the style. Crysis has some wonderful lighting and amazing facial stuff, but it all fits the mood. Half-Life 2 goes for a dirty, realistic environment that fits the dark mood of the game. If you look at some screenshots from the upcoming Half-Life 2: Episode Two, you'll see that has some pretty outstanding graphics which suit the style of the game (click here (http://img113.imageshack.us/img113/5066/hl2ep2citadelremainsconib2.jpg) and here (http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/6446/hl2ep2striderforestal8.jpg)).

There's also 'Portal' coming out soon and, whilst it doesn't have the most stunning game graphics in the world, it's pretty amazing in its own way, and again it suits the style of the game. I quite like the nice swirly effects around the portals (click here (http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/9389/portal1tf3.jpg)).

Edit: I noticed we have actually resumed a topic from a year ago. :p

In the games which are going to be released that's both Crysis and Alan Wake at the first place. They are incredible ! Each time I saw a new media of them I'm so impressed ! Wow !

Assassin's Creed is impressive too and seems amazing graphically (and not only graphically BTW :D).

Another titles looks great too, like Splinter Cell Conviction, The Witcher and Stranglehold. They are beautiful.

I shouldn't forget the new Golden Axe too, the few medias I saw were fantastic. I hope we'll see more soon. What a torture to wait for this game.

Heavenly Sword looks great too. Unfortunately I will never play it.

------

In the games already released, each time I play Tomb Raider Legend I'm still impressed. Titan Quest is fantastic too.

And recently, I enjoyed a lot Infernal. I found it stunning ! :tmb:

Agreed, I'm assuming that this was cutting edge graphics in its time?

If I was going to give a PS1 exaple I would recommend this as the best looking PS1 game ever:

IGN wrote about FE3 (or FE:Inferno) a while ago and had this to say:

Fear Effect Inferno (http://uk.ps2.ign.com/objects/017/017183.html)
Publisher: Eidos Interactive
Developer: Kronos
Original Release Date: Winter 2002

The Official Story:
Eidos first officially showed the game at E3 in May 2002 and the game's first screenshots appeared in Game Informer magazine much to the delight of many PlayStation 1 game owners. Eidos' official statement on Fear Effect Inferno is "We have no updates at this time."

Behind the Scenes:
The unofficial word is that Fear Effect Inferno was the first of Eidos' victims to its more stringent quality assurance program. Eidos felt that the game wasn't where it should be quality wise and told Kronos and crew to keep working on it. We're not sure if Eidos flat out rejected it then or later decided not to publish it, but at some point in late 2002 or early 2003, Kronos did indeed shop it to various publishers. Nobody, however, bit. The saddest part of the story is that Kronos not only was unable to find a publisher, it was unable to get any publishers interested in any of its other game ideas. Shortly after, the company went out of business.

Current Status:
Fear Effect Inferno as we once saw and briefly knew it, has been canned. However, Eidos holds the IP for the series, and so there is a possibility of a future Fear Effect game in the distant future. Source: http://uk.ps2.ign.com/articles/490/490548p2.html

The owner of the unofficial website for Fear Effect also got a detailed response from Kronos on what happened: http://www.freewebs.com/feareffect/feareffect3.htm

fear effect 2?

i've had that for years! some of the most obscure puzzles ever....clocked it once. might get back to it one day...

Such a good game...I'll have to go through both again sometime :)

Anyway, I'd love to chat more about FE so maybe there should be a new thread made? I remember making one here when this general video games section was first made lol

From the Crysis Website:

Crysis System Requirements
From Crysis - inCrysis Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search
The Crysis system requirements have not yet been released, though here's some general guidelines:

- You will need a DirectX 9/Shader Model 2.0 (or higher) compatible graphics card.

- Crysis will be backwards compatible with 2 to 3 year old PCs.

- What framerate is acceptable depends a lot on personal preference. Some people can play well with around 20fps and others will not go below 50fps. Obviously those who can't stand "low" frame rates need better hardware or they will have to sacrifice image quality for performance by lowering graphics settings.

- The only DirectX 10 compatible cards available now are the NVIDIA Geforce 8800 Series, GeForce 8600 Series, GeForce 8500 Series, GeForce 8400 Series, ATi Radeon HD 2900 Series, Radeon HD 2600 Series and Radeon HD 2400 Series. There will be more available before Crysis is released. "Vista ready" is simply a clever marketing trick used on the previous generation cards. A card with this badging is not necessarily compatible with DirectX 10.

- Single core, Dual core, Multi-core and multi-threaded/hyperthreading processors are supported in both 32-bit and 64-bit modes. We do not know how much processor power is needed, though in a recent PC Gamer UK magazine preview Cevat Yerli said an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, 2GB RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 card could run the game at "ultra detail" settings.

- You do NOT need a DirectX 10 card or Vista to run Crysis.

- You CANNOT run DirectX 10 on XP. A DirectX 10 card does work on XP but only in DirectX 9 mode.

- Special Vista/DirectX 10 effects and optimizations cannot be enabled with Windows XP/DirectX 9 card.

- Optimizations and features specific to Shader Model 4.0 can only be run with cards that support it. The same is true where optimizations and features specific to Shader Model 3.0 are concerned - this includes true HDR.

- Almost all the older media you've seen has been rendered in DirectX 9, which means that Crysis will look absolutely awesome in DirectX 9 as well as DirectX 10. Many of the features included in DirectX 10 are possible in DirectX 9 also.

- Crysis takes advantage of 64-bit processors although only by using a 64-bit operating system such as Windows XP Pro 64-bit edition or Windows Vista 64-bit edition.

- CryENGINE 2 is multi-threaded and Crysis thus takes full advantage of dual/quad-core processors.

- DVD drive is required.

- Crysis will only run on Windows XP or Windows Vista. There will be a dedicated server package for Linux, however.

Eidos rubbishes next-gen Fear Effect reports (http://uk.gamespot.com/pages/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=24648796)

Source: A story in entertainment-industry paper The Hollywood Reporter.

The official story: See below.

What we heard: Last week, The Hollywood Reporter ran a story on the upcoming film adaptation (http://www.gamespot.com/pages/news/story.php?sid=6151429) of the original PlayStation franchise Fear Effect. The report was cited by many game-press outlets, including GameSpot.
The Reporter claimed not only that Rumble in the Bronx director Stanley Tong was in talks to helm the project, but that it would tie in to an upcoming Fear Effect game for "next-generation consoles." Given the fond memories many gamers have of Fear Effect and its sequel, the piece raised hopes that Eidos would soon announce the game officially.
Now, Eidos has made an official announcement regarding a next-generation Fear Effect--but it isn't the one fans of the series wanted to hear. "There have been some recent reports that Eidos is developing a third Fear Effect title for next-generation consoles," the UK-based, SCi Entertainment-owned publisher told GameSpot. "Although there is no title currently in development, this is something we are considering at this time and we will update accordingly."

Bogus or not bogus?: The Hollywood Reporter story is apparently bogus ... assuming that Eidos' official announcement is not bogus.

Date: May 22nd 2006
Source: (see hyperlinked title)Still, if these guys are bringing out a film and it turns out to be successful, there's still a small chance of another FE game.

Virtua Fighter 5. :jmp:

When the males are shirtless, the muscle rendering is superb, photorealistic... "textures" and sweat physics are... erm... I'll stop now. :p

Oh and both the snow and water are realistic as well, with footprints leaving a permanent mark in the snow and splashy splashy water.

And the hair! Oh, the hair! :D I thought Tekken 5 had great hair physics but this is amazing!!!

And there is no CG!!! :yik: Not even in the cinematics. It's all in-game!!! And amazing. Not Final Fantasy CG amazing but oh so close! :)
