View Full Version : Which PS3 should I get?

I'm getting a PS3 when it comes out but I'm not sure which version to get. The 20GB or 60GB version. Basicly from what I understand the only differences between the two are that one is 60GB and one is 20GB, one has HDMI and one doesn't, one has wifi and one doesn't. I dont have a HD TV and I dont have wireless broadband so those features would be pointless for me. Is the extra space of 60GB worth it? I will be able to afford the more expensive one but I'm just not sure whether it would be worth paying extra just for the extra space. Maybe in a few years or something I'll get a HD TV but that wont be for a long time if ever. What do you think I should do?

I have already pre-ordred the 60GB PS3.
As it comes ouot first in the UK and I don't even know when the 20GB version comes out.
But I would prefer the 60GB version.
As I do have wireless broadband.

Does the 20GB version come out after the 60GB one? I thought they both came out at the same time.

The 60GB one is definitely coming out at launch but the 20GB one is still unknown. If you feel you're never going to use Wifi or get a HDTV then buy the 20GB version (estimations are around £350 for when it does come out). You can upgrade the 20GB PS3 for Wifi and to a 60GB (or bigger) HDD the only thing you can't do is upgrade to HDMI, you'll have to stick with component cables for that.

Yes, it does.
It's not even confirmed if there is even gonna be a 20 GB version in the UK.

The 60GB version is 425 right? I think I might just get the 60GB version just because it comes out first. I'm not sure tho.

£425 is correct :) While it hasn't been officially confirmed, a Sony representative has said that a 20GB PS3 will most likely see the light of day in the UK.

I dont like the sound of that. It sounds like it will take quite a while for the 20GB version to be released. I think I'll probably be getting the 60GB version for that reason. Maybe some day I will have a HDTV and wireless broadband. Not that wireless broadband is needed anyway. I've got a router to get my PS3 online anyway.

Go for the expensive version. That way it's totally future proof :)

Undertaker speaks the truth... you'll be much more likely to regret buying the cheaper version than vice-versa. Besides, I expect there will be more differences between the two versions than what we know now.

Sony recently admitted that they hadn't yet started production, only three months before launch. They have many units to make to fill the demand of pre-orders, and a repeat of the 360 launch seems likely. Can anyone one get a launch right, ever? I'll see you on E-bay. :tmb:

The new pad looks the same as the old one, only now it's lighter, without the 'RuMblE' feature. It looked like it had a few new buttons added in aswell. I'm sure that if you have only played Playstation, and that's what you're used too, then the period of adjustment would be way less considerable, than if you had switched over to the 'Wii'.

Here's another question:

Which colour should we get?

Black?
Silver?
White?

I think I'm gonna go for the Silver :D

I can get 20% of my PS3 thanks to a discount my dad has is some store. That means I can get my PS3 for 335. I probably wont be getting my PS3 until about february which is my birthday. Besides I wont really need a PS3 until next year anyway. The majority of the good PS3 games come out next year anyway.

Dingaling

Wow, nice discount you got there!

Apparently only the 60gb one is the only one worth considering, I've read and heard in loads of places that the 20gb one is nothing in comparison to the 60gb one.

I would probably get the 60GB one but not when It comes out. I can't afford to pay 425. I don't think the 20GB is available in the UK anyway. Is this true?

I have a question about the PS3. A few weeks ago I bought a mag and it explained loads of stuff about the PS3. It even said "You could even be downloading old PS1 and PS2 games direct to your HDD". Is this true? I imagine this would cost if it is true.

Dingaling

It's completely possible, it's what they're doing wit the PSP (except for PS1 only). Sony instead of offering discs for the games may just let you download the game to your HDD. But the magazine does "you COULD" so don't take it as it is going to happen.

I have a HD TV and wondering what this HDMI cable looks like so I know if I can use one. Also they have announced on Gamespot that the PS3 doesnt come with HD Cables now, only regular, does that mean you'll get bad quality that resembles playing on a regular TV?

Yes, you will have to buy regular or HDMI HD cables separately. Otherwise your picture will look good but not close to what it could look like. Oh, Sony...
