Hey Whisperingdevil !!!
I'm not too sure about a Macbook...but i have recently played all of the classic TRs (1-5 plus GOLDS) on a Mac iBook G4 and they worked fine.
I see no reason why they wouldn't work on a Macbook.
One thing to note though is that out of all the TRs, TR1 and TR1 Gold ran the worst on my iBook (stuttering, flickering textures etc).
However, i was advised to download MACGLIDE (for free). This got rid of the problems, and now TR1 + Gold run better than ever.
Also, two other mac users on this forum who are extremely helpful are cochrane and ssjwolf. So may i suggest contacting them ?
Good luck !! :yah:
I'm sorry to have to disagree with fondantcookie but IIRC the early Tomb Raiders won't run under OS X unless you run them under classic. This has been abandoned on the intel macs and so you're out of luck, mate. Legend (for what it's worth :cen: ) runs wicked fast under XP on my MacBook Pro but in order to play the superior, early games I use my old G4 cube running OS 9 and a 22" cinema display.
These games run MUCH better natively under OS 9 than under classic so, if you really want to play them, another machine is the real answer.
Older macs, capable of running OS 9, have dropped in price on eBay recently, making it worthwhile picking up a Pismo, snow iBook G3 or titanium powerbook as a retro rig.
*edit* I've just checked the system requirements on the TR gold for Mac box & you'd be good to go with any Mac faster than 180 MHz with 32 MB RAM, OS 8.6 - OS 9.2.2 and Quicktime 4 or more.
There's a merchant on eBay selling these at $79 inc shipping:
OS 9 iMac (http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-iMac-G3-400-You-Choose-The-Color-FREE-SHIPPING_W0QQitemZ220025845922QQihZ012QQcategoryZ8 0039QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
Worth adding 128 MB RAM but a bargain!
