I've heard that if you wash your hair with mayonaise it'll be soft and shiny. Does it really work? Do you shampoo first and then do the mayo or do you do the mayo first and then shampoo?

I did hear years ago that you could put mayo through your hair to make is soft, however years ago mayo used to have a lot of natural ingredients such as egg but most on the market now would be made up of powders such as starch, stabilisers and heaps of water.

I suppose you could try it but I would mayo first then shampoo otherwise you hair is going to smell like a salad.

lol one of the girls at my work used tomato sauce in her hair cause they told me that it helped take the green outta blonde hair from the chlorine

I thought it was a stupid idea at first.. but it actually worked on her hair haha

I've heard all kinds of crazy notions about what is good to put on your hair over the years. I never fancied trying any of them. http://neteru.tombraiderforums.com/images/no.gif

Oh yes, it works, as does eggs too!

Just get yourself some mayo, gop it all on your hair, put some saran wrap or a plasytic bag over is, put a towel over your pillow, go to sleep, wake up, wash out and shampoo as you normally would, and bingo! Nice, shiny, soft hair. :)

I'd hate to imagine how my hair would smell like if I applied mayo on it!! I just condition it everyday...and shampoo it once a week..and mine is shiny as hell!!:p

Lol, I tried the egg thing on my sister once, who has really thick dark straight hair, and lots of it. So I go and chuck the egg in, wash her hair, and everything looks and feels great.
Only when I washed it out I realized I shouldn't have used hot water...

took us weeks to get the stuff out. :D

Have you tried it Mel? I'm not willing to try it on a school night so I'll do it next weekend. What did you do with the egg? Shampoo first then do the egg or egg first?

Mayonnaise seems like it'd make your hair really greasy... Although I've heard it works. I'd only use conditioner to make my hair smooth/shiny.

I've never used egg, but my mom said that it works really well. I'm assuming you use it just like you do the mayo, leave it in overnight. The mayo never made my hair greasy. Once I rinsed it out and washed my hair as usual, the result was great! Silky and smooth. :D

What I do now to keep my hair soft is rotate conditioners. I'll use a certain brand until that bottle is empty, then I'll buy another brand, and I just keep changing, and eventually I'll go back to a brand I used before, etc. I heard that it's really good for your hair, and it works great for me. :)

All I can say is "yuck"! I would never try it, just get better shampoo or something. There are so many of those "old" beauty tips that I find questionable at best. Like this one from Mae West:
"She was famous for her morning enemas, which she claimed made her skin like silk and left her "smelling sweet at both ends". On the set of her last film Sextette (1978), co-star Tony Curtis claimed that she was given an enema after being made up, at approximately 11 AM in the morning, as the last step of her preparations before going before the camera."

since this a thread about hair I might aswel ask cause there is one thing bothering me... my hair is so thick.. I mean I have to use lots of gel to have it the way I want it.. are there any better ways to keep hair straight? ( mines not curly by nature)

You can use a chemical relaxer...but it knackers your hair up if not looked after properly:(

Rofl!

If you leave conditioner in for about five minutes it makes your hair extra soft and shiny. :) i do it a lot. You also get the same effect if you wash the shampoo out with cold water, but whether you can bear the cold water or not... :whi:

Yes thats true, but its better to change more frequent. One week use a more expensice luxury brand, then the next week use your cheapy brand. And so on. It really does wonders.

AND NEVER USE HEAD AND SHOULDERS!!!!NOT EVEN IF YOU HAVE DANDRUFF. What it dies is BURN your scalp (you can even feel the burning when you lather!) and only brings dandruff back earlier. Once you use it, you keep having to buy it. Its like teeth whitening and laser eye correcting. Just think to yourself, why exactly did they give out mini bottle samples. To bind everybody into the chain of buying the product.
