View Full Version : TR White Darkness Bug
I was playing the Saturn version in City of Khamoon level just a few minutes ago and noticed a new bug, that has never appeared before. To me, at least. I call it the White Darkness Bug, lol. I was just heading for the door under the Sphinx as usual, pressed start to enter the inventory and suddenly this bug activates. Now everything that is supposed to be black inside a wall, or an area in far distance that is supposed to be black, turned to white. Even the inventory screen and still pictures went crazy. To get an idea of what the heck I'm talking about:

Just thought I should take the pics cause I don't think this has ever happened in the last 10 years I've owned the game. Pretty funny. I wonder if anything similar has happened to the PS/PC players.
http://bestsmileys.com/clueless/4.gif Never happened to me on PC or PS. Dunno http://bestsmileys.com/clueless/1.gif
On PSX only the first screenshot happened to me, but that's cause it was far away and the game didn't allow visibility at that distance.
lol :D i never had it before
I've seen many wierd glitches on TR, especially on the Saturn and PC versions but I have never seen that before!

It is an old game made 10 years ago! You cant expect a clear game from that old.
Check the disk for dirt, seems it's not rendering up distance objects. Maybe the disk is dirty and not reading all the info. I beleive I've seen that happen with the PS version when the game disk was dirty. I saw a similar thing in one of the GTA games and the disk had a big thumb smear on it. :p

It's not supposed to. Normally, the white area in the distance is supposed to be pitch black.

It was THE rival of PlayStation, and successor of Sega's legendary Mega Drive system. If Sega hadn't messed up their marketing, you would be playing with Saturn now instead of PS. Technically, Saturn was superior to PS. It was hard for programmers to use its full potential since it was too hard to program a game that would take a full advantage of its both processors. And, of course, it costed a hundred dollars more than PS when released. Among other stupid mistakes that Sega did. Its story is basically the same as Dreamcast's; better system, better games, bad marketing. Like Dreamcast, Saturn had a lot of great, critically acclaimed games. Too bad the system never got the attention it deserved. And it sure makes me feel sad reading questions like that. But I guess this is the way things are.

1. The graphics are some of the worst I've seen.
2. This never happened to me in the superior (:whi:) PSone version.

I know what you mean, its quite a shame really, Sega always were the ones to "make the first move" and although this made them the best innovators it also made them unpopular with third party developers struggling to get their launch titles released when the consoles were so in a sense whilst the other console developers found it hard to keep up with Sega, the developers did too which is one of the reasons why marketing suffered perhaps, there were of course other factors...

Fortunately, this never happened to me. :)

The Saturn version was the first one out, 2 months before the other versions came out. Core had to make some shortcuts to meet the early deadline. Sega scored a deal with Core to get their version out first. The PS version is slower than Saturn, and the PS has some weird craphical errors like the black voids between walls. On the other hand, the PS version has a little more detailed graphics and more finished feel to it. So blame Core, not the system.
And as I said, this was the first time this ever happened to me in 10 years, so it's not a big deal, and doesn't make your version any superior than mine.
I don't think it was the system's fault of Core's fault, it was the decision makers at Sega who decided to release the Sega Saturn much earlier than planned which is how developers got alienated in the first place.
well it have happened to me,.. and not only in tomb raider,.. in a lot of other games where the pc cannot render the graphics so well,.. looks like the sega is already getting a bit old ,.. fried? anyway... once you aproach the "white darkness" it dissapears eh?.. i think so,... at least i cant get close to it,.. i was always at the sae distance ,.. isnt it?

Yea, the stuff that is blacked out in the distance shows up as white.
When you get close to it, it disappears like normally.
And don't worry, if this Saturn dies, I still have 5 other Saturns waiting in my closet :D
