^ Correct.
You will meet a few blue Crystals in each level, in this case, you can save it, when you meet a Crystal. (<---- For PS Version)
I had played TR1 quite a few times on PC before I played it on the PS1 and I was shocked when I discovered that I couldn't save whenever I wanted to. Crystals do make the game more challenging but I still prefer being able to save at any point. If it's late and you are tired, you sometimes don't want to have to keep going just to make it to the next crystal.

The save crystal system was for me, on my first play through, one of most important factors in my total enjoyment of the game. The satisfaction and attendent adrenaline rush you'd get when you finally reached a crystal was an essential part of the TR experience.
Then you had to decide whether to actually use them at that time or risk continuing. It introduced a simple but welcome strategy element.
In PS TR2 the save anywhere system was matched by a generally higher difficulty level mainly due to the increased combat. The save system suited the game but it undoubtedly could be used to make progress easier through the non-combat areas which I don't think is necessarily a good thing.
There must be an inherent challenge in a game and I find that those with a save anywhere system are often less challenging. In a well designed and fair game (ie. no instant deathtraps or cheaply tough enemies) I actually like that fear of losing progress.
same for me,.. i dont really enjoy the cristals,. im a tomb raider pc fan,.. i have play every tomb raider in pc,... even the ones made for gameboy,. i just love pc,.. sadly right now its gone old, and i cant play legend on it,..:(
Saving anywhere you want makes the game too easy, the crystals rule!
You should try the Saturn version, there's a few less crystals than the PS version.

I whole-heartedly agree!:)

I agree, I first played the game on PS so when I got it on PC and found I could save anytime, you can't imagine my relief! :D
