For me it's Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. When my grandpa died in July, the night after the wake we all sat on the porch and listened to my cousin Seth play the guitar. He asked me what I wanted to hear and I said the first thing I thought of which was Free Bird. He plays it and we are all silent for about five minutes then we gave a toast to grandpa. I was listening to it earlier and I got all teary-eyed and nastalgic. Do any songs carry a personal meaning for you. You can share your stories or if they're too personal and you don't feel comfortable, just tell us the song. :)

I know this is really stupid but i'm so attached to the show and the characters of Lost I cry nearly everytime one of the sad songs off the soundtrack come on.

Goo Goo Dolls - Iris is another song that makes me cry because I was listening to it really loud trying not to cry when my mother was upstairs with her friends helping her because she had topped herself :(

when i think about it, not many significant things have happened in my life, and no songs are related.

Yes, one. Magazin's 'Idi' song. It reminded me of something that happened with me. I get very emotional when I listen to it.

Dire Straits - Why Worry.

It reminds me of holidays in Cornwall as a child - especially driving home. When he thought we were all asleep, Dad used to put it on. I bought Brothers in Arms for him for Fathers Day - first thing he did after listening to it was to ring me up and ask me if that particular song reminded me of anything. When I said 'coming home from Cornwall as a kid', he was really surprised - and had to admit that listening to the song after all these years nearly brought him to tears, which is something the song always does to me, too.

It's a very, very special song in our family...

My years have been a rollercoaster, and I have made and lost friends on the way:) :(. I wanted to give a positive one, but you have caught me in a reflective mode, so:

The gods may throw a dice
Their minds as cold as ice
And someone way down here
Loses someone dear

A few songs have deep personal meanings to me. One of them is a Christian rock song, called ‘Sweetly Broken’; I just really love that song! :p Beside that there’s a couple of other songs that really mean something to me.

Lighthouse Family - High
Robbie Williams - Angels

Those two songs were played at my friends mothers funeral... Everytime I hear those songs I think of her.

Hyperballad by Björk.

I go through all this before you wake up
so I can feel happier to be safe up here with you...

"Great green globs of greasy grimy gopher guts,
Mutilated monkey meat,
Little birdies dirty feet,
Great green globs of greasy grimy gopher guts,
And I forgot my spoon!

Great green gobs of greasy grimy gopher guts,
Multilated monkey meat,
Itsy bitsy birdie feet,
French fried eye-balls,
Rolling down a muddy street,
And I forgot my spoon.
(pause)
But I got my straw!

Great green gobs of greasy grimey gopher guts,
Mutilated monkey meat,
Saturated birdy feet,
All wrapped up in
All purpose porpoise pus.
And me without a spoon!

Gee whiz! (but I''ve got a straw)

Great green gobs of greasy grimy gopher guts
Mutilated monkey meat
Chopped up dirty birdy feet.
A one pound jar of all purpose porpoise pus
Swimming in pink lemonade.

Scab sandwich, spit on top
Monkey vomit, camel snot
Eagle eye and cookie goo
Made a sandwich just for you."

I'm obssessed with this song, I have no clue who wrote it. I just heard it sung in a cartoon and it just stuck in my head.

Brings tears to my eyes when ever I hear or sing it. *rofl*

In the Air Tonight, by Phil Collins. I'm reminded of my father whom loved that song when it was first featured on tv during a Miami Vice episode. He and I used to watch that when I was younger.

It changes for me, but at the moment it's probably Elegy by Carina Round. There are a couple of verses in it which I think are just fantastic, and incredibly sad in an understated kind of way:

Somehow, everything is broken
Hours passed and never replayed
I see the sickness of a love that,
Though it breathes,
Can never be made

Somehow everything is clearer now
Hours pass with never a relief
I feel the sadness of a moment
Though it lived, was never seen

There are several, but one that springs to mind right away is "Wish You Were Here" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXdNnw99-Ic&mode=related&search=) by Pink Floyd. A friend of mine tragically drowned 2 years ago, and he was the only other person I knew here who loved Pink Floyd as much as I do. I get chills every time I hear it.....

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here

Motion City Soundtrack - LFGUAD
I really felt exactly how the lyrics expressed, a social outcast and wanting to just ruin myself completely.
