Hard to believe an ancient relic like 'TR' still surpasses all the other TR by leaps and bounds.
Even the power of the 360 TR couldn't do much except make LARA look sexy. :D
I agree. The other TR's, or sequels I might say, are nothing compared to the first one. The original has an exceptional atmosphere, thanks to the level design, music, villains and plot. TR2 and onwards can't hold a candle to this masterpiece.

TR 2 & 3 can, but the others went POP :cen: ;)
The first 3 games were allright, with either Tr1 or Tr2 being the best, I can't decide.

Yeah, the first is definately the best.
1 and 4 are the best, :tmb: 2 and 3 are greatly fantastic games too, but I just enjoy the Tomb and Atlantis story of TR1, and the whole Egyptian theme and plot and levels of TR4! Excellent games, masterpieces and genius games!

I think the series started superbly and developed/improved with each game reaching it's zenith with TR3. TR4 was the start of its downwards slope simply because we really had seen it all by then and it contained nothing significantly new or better. But on it's own merits was at least as good as TR2.
The acceleration downhill increased with TRC reaching the bottom with AOD - both clearly inferior to the original. Legend - hmmmmmm, a definite upwards turn but heading along a different much gentler, prettier slope towards a massive abyss.

I still cant decide wich is the best.. but I always loved this game and it's sacry athmosphere.. a true tomb raider game has all the ingredients tr1 has.. kinda same with tr4 cause of the scary athmosphere and length..

I agree. It is amazing. Almost as good as Tomb Raider 3. But even Tomb Raider 3 doesn't have the creepy music, atmoshpere, and all the other ingrediants of one of the best games ever made.
The first is good and one of the best but not the best. The best is TR4. TR4 is in a league of its own and no game has ever or will ever compare with it. TR2 is better than the first but TR1 isn't far behind.
My favourites are TR1 for atmosphere, TR2 for action and AOD for story. If I had to pick just one though it would definitely be TR1. I do have a few minor criticisms of TR2 and AOD (TR2 had too many water levels one after another and I didn't much like AOD's Hall of Seasons and related levels) but there is absolutely nothing I don't like about TR1. Every level of that game is enjoyable to me.

In my opinion, Tr1 is the best, it matches TR2, 3 and 4 in terms of gameplay and atmosphere (maybe a little less in the way of looks and movements e.g. Sprint/Crawl) but the most important thing is how innovative and groundbreaking TR1 was at the time and that's why I think it surpasses the later installments.
The orginal is still the best. :tmb:

The first is best of everything Frequently true, but there are some glaring exceptions, like the first Star Trek movie.
Atmosphere and locations, TR 1 is the best, no doubt. Then I cant choose between TR2 and TR4, both are superb and show a few different sides of TR without becoming another game or losing the atmosphere. TR3 was alright too, especially the Antarctica locations.
Every game after these 4 is just a joke to me....they were not about TR anymore, but soaps about this silly arrogant ***** called Lara Croft.
CaraLoft, I suggest you take a look at This (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/announcement.php?f=13) announcement and pay particular attention to the section on censorship!

CaraLoft has a point - censorship software is notoriously stupid. Better 'dubious' words are simply flagged for moderation by somebody real and sensible enough to make a balanced judgement,
If the word ^ was as described I find it a bit odd it was censored in this case. It's not a swear word or even used as expletive. If it had been done to cause offense or to flame another member it would be understandable. Describing LC in that way, well let's just say it's not a excatly an innaccurate description, is it?

I've never seen Star Trek so I wouldn't know, anyway there are some more exceptions, but it's not everybody who can make a movie or a game better then the "first" that everybody liked. I don't really like any of the TR movies (they are ruining Tomb Raider :hea: ), but the second one is better than the first one!
fallenangle. The point that Neteru makes is that we have a censoring system. CL is fully aware of that, that's why he/she tried to bypass that. Any person just typing a censored word will see it replaced with stars like ****. Let that be. We are not discussing the words that are censored. Just leave forum policy to the admins. :)

I just played TR1 (still have all TR games) and was thrown back by the ridiculous graphics, but the gameplay makes up for it.
Anyone who wants to be a TRue fan has to play it, but i doubt anyone who started the series with one of the latter and enjoyed them will like it much. Try it anyway!
My personal favourite is 2. I enjoyed venice (because of the music) and the floating islands (because of the whole atmosphere). TR4 shocked me as much as 6 and 7. It was much too cliché and didn't have any backbone (compared to 1). I wasn't much intrigued to try TRC after experiencing that. Then Lara becomes all goth and emo in AoD and then in Legend she suddenly becomes brittish! Has she EVER behaved as if she were so dry and stuck-up? Yuck! It may be subtle, but it's there.
As subtle as a gigantic Loch Ness monster snake shooting out of the ground. :hea: :yah:

Yeah it was defintely the best, liked 2 aswell, 3 was okay but they're the only ones that felt like TR to me, 1st and 2nd are the best, not sure which tho! I LOVE EM lol :D

"She suddenly becomes British" ................. difficult to know how to break it to you but Lara Croft has always been British, in fact she's a very English public school type of girl.
I also have to disagree with you about the original TR graphics - sure it's technically crude compared to AOD or Legend but we're just talking detail. The important thing is that it successfully creates a believably realistic series of well designed environments.
Of course, it would be nice to have better resolution, more polygons and dynamic lighting effects but that wasn't possible then. Isn't this what the 10th Anniversary Edition is going to do to satisfy all the graphics ****** out there? Whatever, the fact is that even the weakest imagination should be able to see past old TR's blockiness and pixely textures.

What makes TR1 fantastic is the creepy atmosphere, and only TR4 reeches TR1 to its ankles. It is as if the developers forgot about atmosphere and put all of their energy into an actiongame instead.

I disagree with you, for me, TR is the worst of all, TR II and the next ones are far better, and not just of the graphics.

If I may say so, since Tomb Raider was the first Tomb Raider game, that is what every Tomb Raider game should be- not exactly like- but more or less similar to. But as Ben says, it all depends on person. :)
