A Dundee-based digital media company has been commissioned to design some of the world’s best-known games titles for TV channels in America and Canada.

Denki, which supplies Sky TV with interactive games including Shrek, Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and Scooby Doo, has been contracted by Waterfront Entertainment to produce Tomb Raider for a number of North American broadcasters, with Wallace and Gromit to follow.

Could be like Sky GameStar, where you play the game on your TV with your remote.

no freaking way. I highly doubt they'd get it to stay on for more than a season in the US.

So will that be a show? Or an interactive game? Like some freeview channels get tetris - for example.

Oh man 'Relic Hunter' springs to mind..remember that?! :D I don't feel cynical today though, so I'm gonna be hopeful that it would turn out to be something hip.

Ahh Relic Hunter is good fun :D Seen some cool parts of that!
(Also some more Tomb Raidery parts than have appeared in the TR films themselves ;) )

Hmmm..who would play Lara?
Probably some big breasted American chick with a dodgy fake British accent. ;)

In my opinion, I think Tomb Raider should be games, and games only. I dont think it would be the same a television programme and all, well it won't be for me

An animated series would be cool like a nice glass of refreshing cold milk.:)

Anyone want to hook up and sell curtains and bedspreads? :pi:

Legend of Lara

Legend would probably be an influence to the TV series. I can imagine the script...

Lala: Zipit, plz get muy mai heddseth!
Zipit: Ookizay Lala.
All the stairs: Hi Lala. Don't do drugz.
Lala: Yay!
A man duh: Hahaha. Me and my demon pet will kill you.
Fluffy: Rowr.
Rottingham: Haha. We are bad.
Lala: Oh no.

It's a sad sad world. ;)

Anyone remember that spoof Tomb Raider TV series that appeared a few months ago? Genesis or something....it had Michael Caine as Von Croy and Keira Knightly as Lara aka university age.

The promotional page looked quite good - apart from the fact that it was a spoof and never led anywhere

I would quite like to see a well-made series for TR - but only a well-made one.

EDIT: wow my 7000th post :D

Congrats Greenkey :)

Yes a well made cartoon could be good. I think Relic Hunter may have ruined the live-tv area - maybe wait until 2009 when the movie comes out as a spin-off with a washed up Angie. ;)

Congratulations!! :yah:

And, *Where* can I see a copy of that spoof? Providing you didn't just make it up and I spectacularly fell for it :D ;)

I didn't make it up, unfortunately :(.

There was a single webpage created as a sort of promotion about seven months to a year ago, with cleverly edited photographs that made it seem like a genuine series.

I went hunting for it a while ago, but the makers had deleted it. Further proof that Tomb Raider: Genesis TV Series was never for real. Bum :(.

What's with all the Relic Hunter hate? :D It's definitely cheesy and low budget, but I personally really enjoy that series, and it has a great TR-ish vibe. Some parts of it were actually quite well researched, it just lets itself down with the 'artistic license' it takes with the original legends/historical facts. Most importantly, it doesn't take itself too seriously, which is always a plus. In fact, when I started watching it, my longing for a new TR movie almost disappeared overnight - I reckon I prefer Relic Hunter to the big-screen adaptations of TR now :D

Okies. Done quite a bit of digging around and I've got to the bottom of this. Here is my article.

TOMB RAIDER TAPS U.S. GAMING CHANNEL
Copyright 2006 www.tombraiderchronicles.com

[ October 4th 2006 ]

Denki - a Dundee-based digital media company - has been contracted by Waterfront Entertainment to produce an interactive version of Tomb Raider (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/tr1/index.html) for a number of North American broadcasters, according to an article on Evening Telegraph (http://www.eveningtelegraph.co.uk/output/2006/10/04/story8827628t0.shtm).

The presentation will be similar in feel to Sky Gamestar (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/theatre/tr_commercials.html), who launched an interactive Lara Croft (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/lara/index.html) game in December 2002. Viewers access Sky Gamestar by pressing the interactive button on the Sky digital remote control or by pressing the red button while watching one of the Sky channels.

According to figures obtained from Sky Gamestar, Tomb Raider was played around 800,000 times shortly after launch in December 2002, and Sky Gamestar succeeded in delivering the gaming experience to a predominantly female mainstream audience; a demographic notoriously hard to reach for the traditional video games industry.

According to Evening Telegraph, when Tomb Raider launched recently on Canadian channel Bell ExpressVu, it gave the station the best sales figures it had ever had on a games channel.

"This is a great way for Denki to capitalise on the experience we've built up through our work with Sky and take it into the international market," said company director Mr Anderson. "There are huge opportunities on offer and Denki will be well-placed to take advantage. It also means we'll have to take on more staff."

This looks quite...strange. I'm afraid all these products will banalize TR's image. I mean, unless the bow represents a sacred artifact and Lara is now in the Sacred Temple of the Golden Bow,what does that has to do with TR??!!

Is just a ordinary game badly concealed under Lara's figure!

I think it's particularly funny and sad at the same time that Eidos said they wouldn't repeat their mistakes and didn't want to pump out a TR game every year, and look what they're doing now:

TRL: 2006
iDVD: 2006
TV: 2006/2007 (?)
AE: 2007
TR8: 2007/2008 (?)
TR9: 2009 (?)
TR Movie 3: 2009 (?)

That's 7 (!) TRs in one form or another in 4 years or still 4 TRs in 4 years if you only count TR videogames!

Crikey Mona, give Eidos a break. They must have rested their cash cow for at least...ooh, 3 years or so between AOD and Legend. They've got a lot of ground to regain now. What if Lara gets unpopular all of a sudden? And doesn't the world need quality additions like this to the TR universe? :p :D

I agree; Eidos probably need to keep these 'side projects' to a minimum if they want Lara to continue to be a credible marketing icon. I guess they can take some comfort in the knowledge that only a handful of people will ever play this though, much less remember it.

Maybe in a few years they will release the custom editor for tv, and you can explore a whole screen that you designed or play other peoples screens. :D

Tokens cut from the back of Ringo's packs may unlock enable a new one screen adventure, with a much trickier, well hidden key. :p
