Dragonheart with Dennis Quaid and Sean Connery.

I understand you like Dennis Quaid, he's a fine actor after all, but this customer review from Amazon says it for me really :

"This Movie is Shockingly Bad,

Also, it is horribly overrated. This is not a good movie. It is boring to no end. All the poor villagers who we are supposed to care about so much stink up the screen whenever possible and look like rejects from the Xena set. Like Kevin Costner before him in Robin Hood, Dennis Quaid sports an American accent. Horribly distracting from the very first scene. Especially since every other person is clearly British! Oh, except for the excrutiating talentless Redhead they paired him up with. She also was incapable of faking an accent.

Connery as the voice of the dragon... Snore. So what? The dragon is so stupid. He acts exactly like a really noble human and is obsessed with King Arthur. Great. Somehow, the director, Rob Cohen, managed to make pure fantasy unbelievable. The movie is clearly aimed at fifteen year old boys. The mentality is brutaly low. At the end, when Quaid has to kill the dragon, his only friend, in order to kill the evil king (Yawn.) I was ecstatic because I knew the movie would soon end.

Don't rent or buy or watch this movie."

Hated the first two movies, 3+4 are much better IMO. I've always said that a book cannot properly translate into a film without trimming things and changing a few things around.

True, it's not an easy transition. But I think the films were very well done and stick very well to the books. You probably didn't like the first 2 as much because they were directed by Chris Columbus who gave it much more of a childish feel, where as the latest films, I think, give more credibility to the characters and portray the level of their emotions on a much better scale. You get more of the feeling that I think J.K. actually wanted us to feel. She wasn't intending these stories to be for kids, you know? The actors as well are growing older and learning how to act more convincingly. ;)

::nods:: That pretty much sums it up. My major issue wasn't just that Chris was making it too childish in its feel, it was that he tried to directly incorporate too much from the book. It felt too verbatim to the books. Also, it didn't have any real proper flow to the films. He's great at family films but I didn't care for him directing HP. I felt he didn't take any real risks. You're no nerd, it's quite interesting to see their acting skills develope as they work with different actors and directors.

Swordfish.

Blatent subliminal film but gotta say... Its ingenious. I think I found my alter-ego in that movie :pi:.

Sheads a light on one of Sun-Tzu's important strategies from the book, "The Art of War."

To quote the Antagonist Gabriel:

Gabriel: Have you ever heard of Harry Houdini? Well he wasn't like today's magicians who are only interested in television ratings. He was an artist. He could make an elephant disappear in the middle of a theater filled with people, and do you know how he did that? Misdirection.

Stanley: What the **** are you talking about?

Gabriel: Misdirection. What the eyes see and the ears hear, the mind believes

A very powerful weapon if used correctly boys and gals. "Own nothing... Control everything."

A personal fav. Quote:

"You know what the problem with Hollywood is? They make ****. Unbelievable, unremarkable ****. Now I'm not some grungy wannabe filmmaker that's searching for existentialism through a haze of bong smoke or something. No, it's easy to pick apart bad acting, short-sighted directing, and a purely moronic stringing together of words that many of the studios term as "prose". No, I'm talking about the lack of realism. Realism; not a pervasive element in today's modern American cinematic vision. Take Dog Day Afternoon, for example. Arguably Pacino's best work, short of Scarface and Godfather Part 1, of course. Masterpiece of directing, easily Lumet's best. The cinematography, the acting, the screenplay, all top-notch. But... they didn't push the envelope. Now what if in Dog Day, Sonny REALLY wanted to get away with it? What if - now here's the tricky part - what if he started killing hostages right away? No mercy, no quarter. "Meet our demands or the pretty blonde in the bellbottoms gets it the back of the head." Bam, splat! What, still no bus? Come on! How many innocent victims splattered across a window would it take to have the city reverse its policy on hostage situations? And this is 1976; there's no CNN, there's no CNBC, there's no internet! Now fast forward to today, present time, same situation. How quickly would the modern media make a frenzy over this? In a matter of hours, it'd be biggest story from Boston to Budapest! Ten hostages die, twenty, thirty; bam bam, right after another, all caught in high-def, computer-enhanced, color corrected. You can practically taste the brain matter. All for what? A bus, a plane? A couple of million dollars that's federally insured? I don't think so. Just a thought. I mean, it's not within the realm of conventional cinema... but what if?"

Sad isn't it. My personal favorite quote regarding the current state of Hollywood can be best summed up by my screen writing professor:

"Scripts are made for one reason only: Money. This is a business, not art, you want to do art, go to the indie circuit and be poor."

It was a perfect film, a reflection about our nowadays's life under the historical biography of MA, almost a sequel to Lost in Translation .

Kirsten Dunst was the perfect Antoinette, simultaneously playing the queen and a nowadays woman.

The Prestige

Go see it, it's that simple. When put into comparison with this year's movies, The Prestige conquers them all. The story line is amazing, very different from the previews lead you to believe, its even better. My favorite part of the movie is when it involves Tesla. Infact the movie in some sense can be considered science fiction since a heavy part of the movie deals with science fusing with fiction. It's just an amazing movie. The emotion is there, the twists (althought some are predictable) are there, the great acting you expect is there.
I definintly have to recommend this movie! I saw it with a group of friends, 8, not all of them are into that kind of movie and didn't expect it to be all that serious. After 5 minutes everyone was involved in the movie!
