Need I say more? :)
I took these out on a walk earlier this evening. :)Judging from those photos, I'm assuming you were in Ramsgate's Westside ;)
Nice sunset shot :tmb:

The Golden Gate from on top of Fort Point in San Francisco.I have some very similar shots, however I won't post them as I took them when I was 12 years old with a Kodak Instamatic (and I'm sure you remember those 126 babies!) :D

A few from San Francisco yesterday. A beautiful day before the rain appeared late in the evening. :)

This shot really describes the state or condition of the location. Contemplative.

Oh yea, that's why I got a 35mm right away when I was about 7 or 8. :D

Thanks Tom! I love old abandoned military ruins. :)

Beautiful, Sam! :tmb: I was in that same spot just a few weeks ago.

Thanks Ben.

LOL! I stayed overnight at Fort Point when I was in the sixth grade on a Civil War field trip. The sounds the bridge make overnight are pretty amazing. It was great to go revisit it all on Friday. :)

While I was searching pictures for my pets, I came across a few things.

There was an ice storm a few years ago that froze all of the trees in our backyard. Took a shot of it and boosted the contrast a bit. I thought it turned out pretty cool. (Yes, that's ice on the trees)

He kept flying over us, the noise of it was really annoying.

It was fun though. We set off quite late in the afternoon and reached the top of it about 6ish, so we didn't have long left to get back to the car before the sun went down. Luckily it was a really sunny day, and there was still enough light left to see. Probably wouldn't have been nice to be lost in Yorkshire after sunset :p

Funny that, eh? :D Although the reason those police cars are parked there is probably because there was a police station opposite the donut shop.

Shame that tree was in the way, would've been an even better picture had it not been there.

Regrettably I have nothing to show for the fall season here since the weather has been less than agreeable. I managed to dig up a few photos from when I was in Texas this past winter. The band's name (If I remember corrrectly) is Manis Manifesto. If anyone has heard of them, let me know so I can get these to them. Enjoy. :)

Not bad for your first print. I'm assuming you're taking a B&W class? Just make sure your neg overlaps the edges of the easel so you get a nice crisp border.

I'm still working on my own 4x5 negs at the moment. However to tide you photo fans over, here's a digi this week from the pumpkin patch in Davenport, California. :)

It's a very cool place :tmb:

It's right next to what used to be a youth community centre. That's partially destroyed - smashed windows, the works - and inside there's lots of old metal bunk beds. It's really creepy - Silent Hill style.

Another strange thing - Imageshack says what camera I took the pictures with - how the heck does it know? :yik:

got it from there.:p (I suck at explain sorry)

Okay, I know the thread is a little old now, but since it is less than a month I saw no sense in creating a new thread when this perfectly good one exists.

I took this while walking up a hill last Tuesday on my phone, I didn't post it sooner because... well, I don't know, but here it is. Sorry for the quality.

No they weren't very tame. I had to sneak up on them and make use of my 10x optical zoom.

Tuis tend to fly away if you get too close but this one seemed oblivious. Keas (the parrot) are usually friendly and very naughty. I've had them trying to take buttons off my pants before but this one was young and quite wild and kept flying away. I had to climb off the beaten track into the snow to get a picture of him.

Starting? Why more than 10 MP? If you're an absolute beginner, I wouldn't have too many wishes yet if I were you :p May end up having been too expensive.
Anyway, dpreview.com (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp) is an excellent site.

10mpx seems a little unnecessary unless you're planning on printing them out absolutely huge. It would be more expensive and more system heavy too. I'd say that around 6mpx should be fine most of the time.

If you're a beginner but planning on experimenting with photography it might be a good idea to look for something that's somewhere in between a hideously expensive SLR and your average point and shoot (a PseudoSLR if you will :p). Something like one of these: Fujifilm Finepix S7000 (http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_reviews/s7000.html)

Earthcane: New Zealand has some beautiful scenery especially in the alpine regions :D.

Ah a question for me! :D

It depends on what type of photography you want to do. If you're out to do just vacation snapshots, birthday parties, etc., then you might want to look into a point and shoot. If you've looking to get into hardcore photography, landscapes, portraiture, vehicles, then you should probably look into a digital SLR (single lens reflex). There are many brands out there to choose from. However most of us swear by Nikon and Canon as being top of the line. I'm a Canon person and can't say enough good things about their cameras. And if you go the SLR route, you'll probably need to pick up a full version of Photoshop since that will have the RAW conversion software. There's a big gain in quality when you shoot RAW as opposed to JPEG. Anyway, that should give you a few ideas to ponder. :)

I have to agree with Sam. The camera of my dreams is the Canon EOS 5D, but as an absolute beginner, my husband and I agreed it was out of my range. We chose the Olympus 410 kit, came with two lenses, and Olympus has done some interesting thing with their digital lenses for their new line of Digital SLR cameras. The 410 is lightweight, 10mp and I love it!

Uhmmm... I don't think we've been to Mt Cook, no... We were in New Zealand for six weeks but only had the weekends available to really go places. I'm pretty bad with names, but the following places we have been to according to the photo album: Kaikoura, Banks Peninsula, Arthur's Pass, Riccarton, Akaroa, Sumner, Hamner Springs, Lake Tekapo, Port Hills and New Brighton Estuary. Ah, those are all pretty nice places :D. I love Arthur's Pass.

Mt Cook/Aoraki is an interesting area to explore too. It's very desolate and somewhat avalanche/slip prone though:

Wales looks neat. Not really like anything I'd see here!

Excellent snow scene. I wish I was out there with the old view camera. :)

 Beautiful!!

Wales has some pretty extreme mountainous landscapes (amazing ones, just not to the degree of NZ!), I just wish I had photo's of them.

I wish I was out there too! I'm lucky that my Dad's a mountaineer I guess to have been to some of these places at all.

Would you happen to have a spare bed sometime in the future? :D

What camera have you got, by the way?
