Because I'm in love with my new camera.

It's almost pitch-black out there, but when you set the mode on 'night scenery' and put the camera on a platform [the shutterspeed is like 7-8 seconds on that mode], this is what happens:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c152/Kamrusepas/night01.jpg

Are those clouds amazing or what?

The camera must've moved slightly here, but it's still a good shot imo:

Love the moon.:D

Great pics Kam. I'm so jealous :(

jarhead
06-10-06, 21:40
Have you thought above upping the contrast on the sky, the clouds will look even more menacing

Kamrusepas
06-10-06, 21:41
Thanks guys. Now that I know what this little baby can do *pats cam*, I'll be sure to take a lot more pics like these :jmp:

EDIT: My god Monty, where do you live?

jarhead

do you have a deviant account?

Thorir
06-10-06, 21:45
Wow, the sky is purple in Finland! :D

Is it OK to post nice photos, though you haven´t taken them? :)

jarhead
06-10-06, 21:47
If yes, then I'll copy and paste my deviant fav's list

Love the church Mr. Burns, infared really brings out the age

Mr.Burns
06-10-06, 21:48
Micki: Aye, they're deep.

Kam: lol. Why do you ask?

Jared: nope, been thinking about it though.

my favorite of the lot is actually the one of moses holding the ten commandments. That had the most dramatic lighting IMO.

Angelx14
06-10-06, 21:50
wow, those are very beautiful too, Mark.:tmb:

jarhead
06-10-06, 21:51
I have to agree with the dramatic lighting, very contrasting

Does infared photography turn out quite grainy??

Mr.Burns
06-10-06, 21:55
Thanks Agnes.

Jared: When shooting with IR film, yes that can happen. I shot these digitally so the grain isn't there unless I want to add it. Most digicams are IR sensitive but have an IR blocker built in. You can either have it removed (expensive and the camera will permanently shoot IR only) or you can get an IR filter which is what I did but it requires a tripod because the filter cuts out almost all visable light and forces you to make long exposures.

jarhead
06-10-06, 21:59
Oh right, I see now, Thanks for that Mr. Burns :tmb:

I attempted to photograph at night in a moving car and well ngiht mode on my camera, long exposure and a bumpy road doesnt give the most brilliant of results

Mr.Burns
06-10-06, 22:01
Oh right, I see now, Thanks for that Mr. Burns :tmb:

Does your camera have full manual control?

jarhead
06-10-06, 22:02
errr I doubt it, What do you mean,

oh rubbish- I cant even find it...

the manuals rather long so I asume I have some control,... yer I can change a load of options with one mode, the others are kinda preset

Mr.Burns
06-10-06, 22:06
you what the brand and model of the camera is? Most cameras have some form of manual control and doing night shots while driving can actually be pretty cool if you can control your shutter options.

jarhead
06-10-06, 22:09
err lemme look in the manual, its a Pentax M10 optix

Kamrusepas
06-10-06, 22:19

Kamrusepas
07-10-06, 19:14
Okay, here's some older shots, taken with my friend's cam last year.

I just love this one. "So this is where he's been hiding :pi:"
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c152/Kamrusepas/IM000211.jpg

And some beautiful clouds. This was actually taken from a fast-moving car.

It's a river, btw.

Wow Jared, love the first pic :tmb:

I can't find the best pic ever :( I'm afraid I might've deleted it. I gotta check a couple of cd's, it might be there.

Mr.Burns
07-10-06, 20:52
Jared & Kam: Those are some really nice pics. I'm pretty much flat out of new ones and I don't have too many old ones either.

jarhead
07-10-06, 20:54
Me 2, I've photographed everything in my house, and I mean everything, so I think I'm gonna go out tomorrow, even if it is to Tesco's etc and see if I can photograph something different

Kamrusepas
07-10-06, 21:11
I am such an idiot for not taking my camera with me to work last night! The clouds we're amazing :hea:

Anyways, I'm gonna take it with me some time, especially in the winter :)

jarhead
07-10-06, 21:16
YES!! Winter, im so glad I got my camera before december , because the frost and crisp skies are more dramatic then those in jan and feb

Mr.Burns
07-10-06, 21:18
Actually, I'm quite annoyed that I didn't get my camera earlier in the summer. I'm not a big fan of winters here since there's almost no sunshine. I don't like shooting on a cloudy day, it's horrible for contrast.

Kamrusepas
07-10-06, 21:20
Actually, I'm quite annoyed that I didn't get my camera earlier in the summer.

Me too. The summer was amazing here. But then again, I have the fall, the winter, the spring, next summer :D

Kamrusepas
08-10-06, 19:21
Okay, we went a little crazy with the camera today at my mom's. Here's a few good shots :D

An abandoned house right next to my mom's house:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c152/Kamrusepas/P1220160.jpg

I've always found it really cool.

The river:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c152/Kamrusepas/P1220188.jpg

It was actually taken directly towards the sun. I can't believe how well this camera handles that.

Another abandoned barn. Probably one of my favorite shots from today.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c152/Kamrusepas/P1220192.jpg

More to come as soon as I get them resized and uploaded :wve:

jarhead
08-10-06, 19:24

More pics :jmp:

This is what we call an album cover pic. My sister is always asking me to take these sorta "artistic" pics of her and I thought this came out really well:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c152/Kamrusepas/P1220202.jpg

There was a stunning sunset when we were leaving, but of course it never turns out that well in photos:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c152/Kamrusepas/P1220273.jpg

And a moon-pic from tonight :p Missed the coolest clouds, they were absolutely stunning, but also moving way too fast for such a long shutterspeed.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c152/Kamrusepas/P1220283.jpg

jarhead
08-10-06, 19:41
and because Kam asked soo nicely ;)

So, I know that these are some repeaters but I figured, might as well post them in a more appropriate thread so here they are:

Sigh. Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX7. Or Lumix 7 for short. My dad just bought Lumix 9, it's apparently even more awesome.

My dad, being crazy about these sorts of things, gave me a huge stack of papers along with the camera, including an article about Lumix 7 where it's recommended as a random snapshot cam for professional photographers.

And I thought some pictures of the Giant's Causeway would be fun to see, seeing as it was in that National Geographic thread.

Like I said in there, my pictures aren't anywhere near as atmospheric or beautiful.

This is from a couple of years ago. I have more 'artistic' ones of this place, but they're backed up somewhere - these are more just plain touristy ones, which I took when I had student exchange people over from America :D

Sadly it's not from another planet :P - it's a strange area up at the top of Ireland where the rocks have formed into ones with normally 6, but sometimes 4, 5, 7 or 8 sides - it's like walking on a giant honeycomb or something:

Well done on the Fingal's Cave :tmb:

Jamie, that last one with the stepping stones (I think that's what they are) is amazing! ANoDE, I LOVE the chair one, and the fire, and especially the last one with the sun merger. Mergers are really fun to play around with.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

The "chair"-one was taken a couple of weeks ago, when I went to munich (oktoberfest) - we had a visit at the "old olymics stadium" in munich (I think from 1970 or so *gg*). It's photographed from the very first row ;)

The "fire" one was taken about 2 years ago when we had our "easter-fire" (I don't know, how widespread this custom is) - The guy in front of the fire is my cousin from switzerland by the way ;)

Hey Jamie - our pictures REALLY look similar ;) Quite funny, actually ;)
And that stone-one looks great!

Kamrusepas: you seem to be fond of nightly pictures :D I would advice you to put the ISO value on its lowest then (80 in your case), cause that will greatly reduce the noise/grain you see on your pictures. You now show them at ISO 400.
However, the shutter will need to be opened for a longer period of time then so you'll need to find a place where you can keep your camera steady (I often just put it on the roof of a car or press it against a tree, stuff like that :)).

See image :p I just shot that out of my window, unfortunately not as great a surrounding as you have overthere... But you can see the effect.
Try it :tmb:

I would set the camera on a stable platform if I had one. The last pics I took, with the clouds and trees, we were walking our dog and I had to take the pictures rather hastily. I really need a tripod or something :(

You could also get a cheap monopod, I'm sure there are some that are extendable so it'd be easier to take along and less bulky than a tripod.

Punaxe: Nice pics, especially the winter shot. I've got a couple so far from the Pennsylvania mountains in Infrared. Hopefully I'll have more in a few days.
